FO: Pats OL ranked 10th in run blocking

See, this is when you know stats lie. I mean, do you really believe that this team has the 10th best run blocking O-line, right behind Seattle and above the stigleers?

I wouldn't use FO to make that suggestion. If our OL is 10th in the league at run blocking, then our running backs must be god awful because we're 26th in the league in yards per carry at 3.5. I know Ridley isn't a pro bowl running back, but he's better than that.

I believe they are better run blocking than pass blocking.

That may be true, but I don't believe by much. I just think a poor run block doesn't look as dramatically bad as a failed pass block that results in Tom Brady getting hit.

That said, I don't think our run blocking is too far off from being respectable. If we could just get rid of the holding penalties on all our biggest runs, we'd likely look a lot better. I'm not against running more to get the offense in gear, I just don't buy the FO ranking is all.

4.4 YAC vs Miami and 4.1 YAC vs Minnesota.

As has been pointed out to you before, we're currently 26th in the league in YAC for the season. Further, we played a team that was getting run on at almost a historic week through the first two weeks of the season and got bogged down on the ground against them since the OL couldn't open holes on a consistent basis. This OL, to date, has not run blocked particularly well either.

But, really, what I was intending to get across was you saying that the OL has run blocked better than pass blocked isn't exactly glowing praise. They've SUCKED in pass protection.

personally, I think we should go back to being a run first team like we were last year. it will help the Oline to get more into a rhythm and be physical, and it will help when we do pass. Feed Ridley the rock.

please, no more vereen/bolden on the goal line.

Is there any team worse at pass blocking? Jacksonville perhaps?

I agree with the above except for the no more Vereen on the GL part. The TD he scored in Miami
came through a hole that Ridley would never, ever have seen. How about No more Amendola/Bolden
on the GL instead?

yeah, why you run a play for amendola at the goal line when you have tall guys like Tim Wright/lafell is beyond me

Is it just me or are the Patriots INCREDIBLY PREDICTABLE in their play calling? Their formations and cadences are always the same when they run and it makes it look easy to defend against, thus the mutiple 2nd and 9's and 2nd and 10's.

I don't think it has anything to do with being predictable but rather has everything to do with not being able to push the other guy backwards. This line needs Lance Armstrong's doctor.

The Seahawks entire right side of their OL is actually downright terrible. They make good use of running to the left and Wilson running read-option, jet sweeps and bootlegs. That offense performs because of creativity, not talent. It works, though.

It's not just you. They're incredibly predictable right now because they have to be. The pass protection is forcing their hand. Brady has to rely on the guy(s) who gets open the quickest to avoid the hit/sack. That's why Edelman is leading the team in receptions.

They used a 6th OL for much of the game against the Vikings.
The run was mostly shut down against Miami.

Are people not watching the games? A lot more of the 'analysis' than usual has been absolutely terrible.

It really comes down to websites trying to quantify a facet of the game that is almost impossible to summarize with numbers. Stats almost never tell the whole story, but they're far more representative when you're talking about QB's, RB's, WR's, team defensive stats, etc. The complexity of OL play is so subtle that it makes this kind of analysis just mental masturbation.

That would be awesome ....if...BB kept on the roster the one RB he trusted down the stretch last year. But alas, BB chose to keep the RB he didn't trust down the stretch last year instead. And based on 2014 deployment, our goal line back is our 3rd down scat back.
Very confused!!!
