"From May through July, I told you that Jimmy Garoppolo was a wasted pick," says Curran. "I wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then, because Tom Brady almost certainly will be gone before his four years is up."

Curran is a huge Brady homer and even he is starting to see reality in the future

I like Brady and will be rooting for him the next 2-3 years......but I'm gonna get a good laugh as the heads explode around here when BB dumps Brady

If he does dump Brady in the next few years, that would have to mean we've got ourselves a suitable replacement. In that case, I could live with it. I can't imagine BB would dump Brady without having a replacement in place.

the weird part is some parts of the fanbase actually want to see this happen so they can wallow in misery and say "see? I told you Belechick was no good!"...just like they do year after year. I love Tom Brady. I will always love what he did as a Patriot. If he moves on like Willie and Ty and Adam...thems the facts of life in Big Boy World...I'm not going to sit in a dark corner sucking my thumb crying "why? why? why?".

fair enough.....im actually part of the fanbase that wants to be able to say, "See, I told you BB was this great".........i have absolutely nothing against Brady at all......i hope he wins the SB the next two years......but I want to see BB show that he is a Mount Rushmore coach.....and that will only happen inarguably if he wins post Brady.....and BB is not getting any younger

just my opinion

Brady will be gone when Brady wants to go. Or is injured enough that he cant perform to his expectations. And its not because BB likes him. Its because he's THAT GOOD! Kraft likes the $ he brings as well. 2017 sounds about right to me. If they get a "better" QB before that, I'd be amazed.

Judging Garroppolo off those couple of pre-season games and thinking he's for sure our future starting QB is ridiculous

Brady has at least another 4 years if you ask me.

i completely agree with your first sentence......i think BB will replace Brady by 2017.....

You think Kraft will overrule BB if it comes to that in 3 years?.......I don't

That makes one of us, Joker :(

diffrent strokes, bro....it's all good. I think my perspective is a little different in that I've sat through DECADES of sparse winning and still have fond memories of being just a Patriot fan. Good enough then, good enough now. Y'all can build shrines and jump out 22 story windows when your binks leave town...I'll just buy a new hat.

I don't like this speculation piece coming 1 week prior to the season. I'd have much rather seen it as an offseason piece in the middle of June.

Also, I don't necessarily agree with it either. Too many people are getting caught up in the JAG hype after a few preseason games. Unless Tom Brady takes a major slide, I don't see a reason for this to happen.

Just b/c Belichick/Kraft have made some shrewd business deals doesn't mean that they don't want to see Brady retire as a Patriot. It will all be up to how his play looks in the next couple of years though.

I hear you, and I respect the hell out of some of the seasons that you've sat through. I was nothing more than a casual fan during those years, while you were parked on a cold metal bleacher.

That said, I will have to admit that I will be more than bummed out when Brady/Belichick hang it up or move on. Anyone else won't matter that much, but those 2 are special to the franchise.

Last I checked, BB works for Kraft, not the other way around, and Kraft needs to sign off on all trades.

I agree about JAG.....who knows what will become of him....way too early......i wouldn't have posted it if Curran hadn't said it......he's the last person i would have expected to say this

In response to your comment---I do feel as though there's just as good of a chance that they have Brady retire as a NEP vs. them cutting ties due to some other shrewd business moves.

Obviously, there are reasonable arguments for both sides, but I don't look at the situation and automatically say "Brady's gone just like the others," that's all.

fair enough.....but does BB not have more autonomy over football operations than any other coach in the league?.....its not a matter of if Kraft could overrule BB.....or course he could.....its a matter of *would he*........i dont think he would.....especially in 3 years

Why would you get a laugh out of something as such? Belichick has shown that he is willing to replace everyone the moment he has a younger, better prospect. This isn't out of the ordinary. That said, I find it difficult to imagine that Belichick pulls the trigger on Brady. Quarterback is unlike any other position in sport. Pancho will have to be something to supplant Brady.

I agree with you. I wouldn't have chosen it to be Curran if you'd have asked me to pick which beat reporter had come up with this story.

Jimmy G looks better than I expected, but again...I think it's a small sample size with a very small portion of the playbook taken out for him.
