Annnnd the worst QB remaining in the playoffs is....

And another thing: the Brady is a system QB meme is going around again.

Another stupid stat used by trolls is that Cassel was 11-5 with the Pats in Brady's absence so that makes them equal in talent, What these idiots don't realize is that Brady went 16-0 and Cassel lost 5 games with the same team. That means he lost 31 percent more games than Brady did the year before.

I love the Patriots, I even put my money where my mouth is, but you guys are just blinded by your bias. The Patriots offense this season is the worst its been in a while and that reflects on Brady. Every team has EXCUSES for why things have not been great, so I don't buy into using them for Brady.

Now, does that mean Brady won't step it up in the playoffs? Of course not. Brady could come in and be rock solid on Saturday, an MVP type performance would not shock me in the least. However, I would also not be shocked if he came in and had 55% completion rate, no TDs and an interception, with 3 sacks.

I have no idea what to expect and the reason for that is this has been a very un-Brady like year, and Brady certainly has not done much in the playoffs recently, sans Texans last year.

True! but his performance is a reflection of what he has been working with, you could see the difference when Rob came back. Anyway at this stage, stats are for losers, only winning matter because the loser will go home regardless how he perform..see Alex Smith.

I didn't bother clicking on this piece of garbage, just read an article about it on CBS Sports. When I read it ranked Brady last in pocket awareness and either last or second to last in intangibles (the two categories where he should be first, not even considering the rest), that told me all I need to know about the accuracy of this tripe.

What a joke, and how can I get a job as a sports (fantasy) writer...

A team led by a healthy Brady in 2008 would have likely gone 14-2 at worst and made it deep into the playoffs, at the very least. It was pretty much the same team as 2007, and while it's really hard to go 16-0 and really hard to win a Super Bowl, no way do they go 11-5 and miss the playoffs that year with Brady at the helm.

I have to say I do agree with Felger on one thing...Fantasy football has ruined the game. all we care about are star wars stats, and if the player doesnt throw for 400yards and 3 td's they had a bad game. forget the gameplan, forget what they did to get the team in a position to win.

little do we forget the most TD's brady had before 2007 was 28 I think? it hasnt been since 2007 when brady got moss/welker that it became the air brady show.

considering what brady has done with the lack of weapons is still pretty impressive.

TD passes are a somewhat silly statistic anyways, because a solid percentage of TD passes come from inside the 5 yard line. All that means is that a team failed to run the ball in on 1st and 2nd down, or that they chose to pass when they could just as easily have run.

Brady has been inaccurate this year

He was 2.8% below his career average this year. Given the circumstances that's actually pretty decent.

And those circumstances would be his receivers leading the league in drops. If they dropped half as many as they did this year Brady is probably above his career average in completion percentage.

has taken too many sacks
Ya because those are all on him. Give me a break

has been called for too many intentional grounding penalties.

I can only remember 1 or 2 this year. But go find the actual number and compare it to other QBs in the league and also his past seasons. Then and only then can you say he had too many

and thrown too many interceptions.

He threw 8 interceptions in 627 passes. Yep I know his stats say 11 but I disregard 3 of them.

Sudfeld fumbling the ball into a defender
The INT at the end of the Panthers game
Vereen fumbling the ball into a defender.

But even with the 11 it still isn't "too many" He threw 12 in '11 and that year he threw it 17 times less. This was actually his 4th lowest INT season. ('10- 4, '07- 8, '12- 8, '13- 11)

Those are the facts.

They aren't facts if only you believe them.

Now run along troll.

when did the onion rename itself and overhaul their website?

Someone in this thread gets all their Pats info and analysis from ESPN, I think.

Off the quarterbacks left in the playoffs, I can't really, truly think of any one of them that I would rather have than Brady under center.

Who? Who instead of Brady would you take?

We have become a stat-obsessed society when it comes to sports (self included; I will admit I am guilty at times), but the reality is that of all professional sports, individual stats in the NFL are the least meaningful. Compounding the problem is the often faulty analysis of those statistics, of what is and is not an important indicator.

There are also statistical idiosyncrasies that exist because of the nature of the game and the small sample size in any given season, let alone in single-game playoffs. For example, additional yardage on a given play is a plus nearly everywhere on the field. However, on average, teams have a significantly lower chance of scoring a touchdown if they have a 1st and Goal from just inside the 10 yard line than they do with a 1st and 10 from the 11, 12, 13, or even 14 yard line, or a 1st and Goal from anywhere inside the 9 (see FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | A Closer Look at Touchdowns in the Red Zone). That means a drive's chances of scoring a touchdown can be substantially impacted just because a player dives forward for an extra yard as they are tackled at the 11, meaning the team can no longer get another first down.

In other sports, where there are a ton more games and thus more scoring opportunities by a large magnitude, this sort of idiosyncrasy may not mean much. But in the NFL, the difference between a touchdown and a field goal on a single drive can mean the difference between making the playoffs or not -- and, in single-game playoffs, the marginal scoring probabilities offered by a 1st and Goal at the 10 versus a 1st and 10 at the 11 can mean the difference between advancement and elimination.

Basically, raw NFL stats do a lot of lying.

So Sherman calls him a dumb QB and then this guy says Tom is the worst remaining QB. Umm, now that Tom will see these, he is gonna be one fired up mofo. One thing better than TFB, is a pissed off TFB with a chip on his shoulder.

If Brady was motivated by what ppl like Sherman "the PED boy" and the others have to say about him then i would on a daily basis fwd him posts from GG and JI

He lost me in the intangible part, he lost all credibility.Brady is clearly #1 in that category, it's not even close.

I don't have cable nor do I read articles relating to football outside of fantasy football which I play. I just watch a lot of football, attend a lot of Patriots games, and take advantage of a season ticket holder perk, free Red Zone.

That explains a lot.

That is a little different, those are just rats.

Who doesn't play fantasy football? Its fun, I am in a 16 team keeper league with a bunch of my buddies from college. Offense and defensive players. To ridicule somebody for playing a game like fantasy football is a little over the top.

I don't :D

I didnt ridicule you, I'm just saying your opinions are very consistent with a fantasy football fan. Not that there is anything wrong with that buy most people who look deeper than fantasy numbers have very different opinions.
And I don't play fantasy football.

I don't play fantasy football either, so I guess we're seeing the divide here. It has the name "fantasy" in its moniker for a reason.

You do not think context is taken into account when playing fantasy football? Context is everything, you must look deeper into the why to win.

But, looking at the totality of this year, Brady just isn't as dynamic and consistent as he had been previously, the "why" for that doesn't really matter because the "why" is still in play.
