Annnnd the worst QB remaining in the playoffs is....

His real % for interception is still very low, there are some you've got to disregard

Sacks are not his fault and intentional grounding I bet is a normal % comparing with all the other QBs, also it's also due to the OL gaps.

There is a reason why the Sporting News has become an irrelevant publication. Vinny Ivers is a hack too.

I really don't care about these types of articles because they are subjective and really don't mean much of anything, but say say Cam Newton has better pocket presence than Brady makes this article a huge joke. Newton had a fantastic year, but it isn't because he has good pocket presence.

Brees probably throws the best long ball in the game -- maybe in the history of the game.

#7 arm strength, behind Manning's post-neck surgery pop-gun.

Brady's pocket presence is #6? Manning in the playoffs has the best intangibles? This is a pretty terrible article, and I thought the Richard Sherman article was fine (he acknowledged that Brady had one of the strongest arms in the league).

...Tom Brady

With Super Bowl in sight, which QBs are best suited to get there - NFL - Sporting News

Sorry if this has already been posted elsewhere!

I'd say that this year, that is correct. Brady has performed worse than any of the other QBs in the playoffs.

The 2007 Super Bowl faced off the # 1 ranked QB in the NFL vs the # 40th ranked QB in the NFL FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | QUARTERBACKS 2007

One QB would win 3 games on the road to get to the Super Bowl and win it.

The other QB could only put up 17 points in the biggest game of the season.

Its a team sport and the 2013 NE Pats are a team.

Actually, it was only 14 points. 17 points would have been enough to force overtime.

I will now light myself on fire.

The worst article ever written, I will never read Sporting News again

I love the Patriots, I even put my money where my mouth is, but you guys are just blinded by your bias. The Patriots offense this season is the worst its been in a while and that reflects on Brady. Every team has EXCUSES for why things have not been great, so I don't buy into using them for Brady.

Now, does that mean Brady won't step it up in the playoffs? Of course not. Brady could come in and be rock solid on Saturday, an MVP type performance would not shock me in the least. However, I would also not be shocked if he came in and had 55% completion rate, no TDs and an interception, with 3 sacks.

I have no idea what to expect and the reason for that is this has been a very un-Brady like year, and Brady certainly has not done much in the playoffs recently, sans Texans last year.

My only issues are not ranking Manning last in arm strength, not putting Brady first in intangibles, and not putting Brady toward the top in pocket presence.

The primary problem with the argument is that statistics in pro football do not translate as accurately to individual assessments as they do with other sports.

In the NBA for example a player goes one-on-one against the defender, and both teams have a grand total of just five players on offense and defense. That five-on-five becomes 22-on-22 in the NFL, and that's without taking into account sub packages and special teams.

In the NHL it is shooter versus defender and goalie, six-on-six for both offense and defense combined. MLB is virtually one-on-one, pitcher versus batter.

We have become a stat-obsessed society when it comes to sports (self included; I will admit I am guilty at times), but the reality is that of all professional sports, individual stats in the NFL are the least meaningful. Compounding the problem is the often faulty analysis of those statistics, of what is and is not an important indicator.

Only compared to the essentially unparalleled run of offensive brillance(3 500+ point seasons in a row).

Patriots "terrible" offense was still 3rd in points and 7th in yards. And I didn't exactly see Adrian Peterson at RB. So who do you think was responsible for those points?

Look at the stats and then make that case.
You should try watching football games instead of reading stat sheets.
Watching the game actually allows you to see those abilities.

Meh...the only thing that matter is who win and who lose in the postseason.I say send the top guys in the pro bowl and the bottom on to the superbowl.

If the Patriots win on Saturday, it will be the 8th time that Tom Brady will have played in the AFC Championship game in his 12 seasons.

8 out of 12.

Stats are for suckers. After one of the Brady's best games of the year (Carolina) I watched the fantasy show on NFL, and the talking known-nothings said that Brady had a bad game against the Panthers. They didn't say he had poor stats or poor fantasy numbers. They said he had a bad game. It's stupid.

Here's where Nunchuks gets it wrong: you have to look at points scored and wins. The stat question is reminiscent of last year when Aaron Rodgers was considered the best QB and the 2nd best candidate after A Petersen for MVP. The QBR and the other were giving people a false sense of who was the best. Why? Because Rodgers had thrown for only 6-8 more TDs than Brady, but the Packers had scored a lot fewer TDs. The Patriots in fact had thrown for 34, but had also run for 26, 4 of which were run in by Brady himself. The Patriots had the 4th best scoring offense in the history of the NFL last year.

Those QBR stats do not account for points scored at all. Heck, they don't even account for TDs scored by a running QB.

This is why stats lie.

You mean the one that scored the 3rd most points in the NFL.

Now, does that mean Brady won't step it up in the playoffs? Of course not. Brady could come in and be rock solid on Saturday, an MVP type performance would not shock me in the least. All this statement does is illustrate your lack of knowledge.

I have no idea what to expect and the reason for that is this has been a very un-Brady like year, and Brady certainly has not done much in the playoffs recently, sans Texans last year.
At least you have the Bronocs to root for.

And another thing: the Brady is a system QB meme is going around again.

Tell me, after 14 years, after 8 championship games, 5 Super Bowls, 3 SB rings, and the most wins of any other team over that time, why hasn't any other coach adopted the Patriots' system? The defense has consistently ranked in the bottom of the league over the past 5 years or so, and yet they've still made 3 championship games and 2 Super Bowls. So if the offensive system is so great, why hasn't it been duplicated?

Apparently, this system is so good you can plug any decent starting QB into it, and you're good to go. But yet, after more than a decade of this system, no one else has managed to have the same amount of success as the Patriots.

Why is that?

I don't either, I am just saying that those other QBs are playing better than Brady right now. Is that a sacrilegious thing to say or acknowledge?
Its not sacreligious, but it is wrong.

I am happy with Brady as the QB, but that doesn't mean I can't recognize that these other guys have brought the business this year.

As for drops, etc....All these QBs have had to deal with issues throughout the year.

You think Cam Newton has tons of talent at the skill positions?

The only guy who has had his receiving core mostly intact was Manning, but if you recall, Decker dropped a boatload of passes at the start of the season and their starting TE got hurt.
You know even you don't really believe this stuff.

I can almost understand a debate re: Manning and Brees, but on what planet is Colin Kaepernick a better QB than Brady? I get that the premise here is to go by this year's statistics and capitalize on the fact that Brady had a down statistical year, on account of all of his weapons being gone. But even then, Brady had a better statistical year than Kaepernick, Newton, and Luck, and his stats were very similar to Wilson's.

I have to say I do agree with Felger on one thing...Fantasy football has ruined the game. all we care about are star wars stats, and if the player doesnt throw for 400yards and 3 td's they had a bad game. forget the gameplan, forget what they did to get the team in a position to win.

little do we forget the most TD's brady had before 2007 was 28 I think? it hasnt been since 2007 when brady got moss/welker that it became the air brady show.

considering what brady has done with the lack of weapons is still pretty impressive.

I love the Patriots, I even put my money where my mouth is, but you guys are just blinded by your bias. The Patriots offense this season is the worst its been in a while and that reflects on Brady.

You're right: it reflects quite well on Brady that despite all of the turnover and injuries he still piloted one of the best offenses, statistically, in the league. Terrific point.
