Adam Schefter: Adalius Thomas will be a Patriot in 24-48 hours

I just heard Schefter say it again on EEI -- something to the affect of "the people that know what they're talking about tell me the Pats are making a hard run at Thomas."

Is his source Reiss? Maybe this is what Mike meant by saying the Pats are "opening free agency with an aggressive approach."

I watch this network a lot and from what i've seen (i could have missed some things) Adam is usually right.

Even when he said Art Shell was being fired and someone came out and called him an idiot he just said "well we'll see what happens". and he was right.

I hope he's right now.

If he's wrong and was talking out of his arse i'm going to hate him forever and never believe another word out of his midget mouth.
(if we sign him i take that last sentence back)
Even the worst crack addicts on Telegraph Ave. knew 3/4 of the way into the season that Shell would be fired again.

But, I hope the Pats get Adalius.

Shell was fired? What are they thinking in Oakland? I thought he had them moving in the right direction...

Lets just hope Schefter hasn't jinxed us.

High Hopes

If we make this splash it not only solidifes defense but allows draft flexibility?

Corner Saftey &
Maybe Greg Olson for replacement of Graham

okay, so i read through these posts
shefter was implying that we will make a push, and if it gets done it COULD get done within 24-48
not that it will

no no no
we still need young linebackers
adalius would be a bandaid
a very big bandaid
but a three-four yr bandaid none-the-less
we still need to get some young guys to groom

The other thing is, as I think someone mentioned, if Clayton's report was filed at 1 30 things could change. I recall when Rodney was signed, he was on his was on his way to Oakland and/or Denver, or was in Oakland and on his way likely to sign in Denver when BB called and everything changed very quickly. Maybe thats what happened with Adalius

I think Reiss may have got screwed on this one. It seems like he knew more than he was letting on, but held back in the story. I hope the Patriots didn't ask him to hold the Thomas story only to get scooped by Schefter and Banks. The Pats need to take care of the local media especially when they are fair and balanced like Reiss.

What I find weird is that Schefter said San Fran wasn't making anything of a push, which goes against all other reports. He said last night it changed to Pats Pats Pats

I'm under the same impression. good point for clarification

Profootball Talk is now saying "Pats Looking to Spend Kraft Cash?"

this is an interesting senario and possibility you pose here.

Actually, Don Banks said the same thing as Schefter. I think it is like Kevin Curtis with Detroit, when a head coach or coordinator from another team have a relationship with a free agent player because they coached them in the past everyone just assumes that that team is going to go after him.

PATS TO SPEND KRAFT CASH?

We've tracked down more information regarding Adam Schefter's Friday morning comments on WEEI in Boston. We're told that Schefter is of the opinion that the Patriots will be major players in the 2007 free-agent market.

Specifically, he thinks the Pats will storm the market, and that linebacker Adalius Thomas in in their sights.

It could lead to an interesting coast-to-coast tug of war, since the Niners are also expected to make a big push for Thomas.

And the mere fact that a typically slumbering free-agency giant like the Patriots are interested in Thomas could prompt other teams to get interested in him, too.

Stay tuned.

That picture of BB and AT at the pro bowl looked pretty cozy between the 2. You just know BB made his pitch at the pro bowl.

I think David Thomas is a seriously underrated part of this puzzle. The Patriots knew Graham was likely to be gone, so they loaded up on TEs in last year's draft which was extraordinarily deep at the position. And guess what? Even playing behind two #1 picks, Thomas had arguably the best numbers of any rookie TE last season.

Thomas isn't huge -- 6' 3" 250 -- but he has some quickness (10-yard split close to Olson's), great hands, good toughness and focus and is a very smart and technically sound player. He even blocks well for his size. If he were in this year's draft he'd probably be the second TE off the board.

With Watson, Thomas, Mills and (hopefully) Kyle Brady, TE should still be a position of strength on this team even without Graham.

Rodney must thank his lucky stars every day that he avoided Oakland. Denver? He probably wouldn't have put them over the top. Bring in this A.T. cat.

Good point. Maybe they just figured it would be a good fit, what with Nolan and the 3-4 and all.

exactly
i actually posed that topic shortly after the loss to the colts

our front seven: wilfork, warren, sey, colvin, vrabel, thomas, bruschi... I would hate to want to game plan against that. I hope this comes true.
