The Official Cutdown Watch

I'm very interested in having a signature picture debate with you, please, by all means, keep posting about it.

I am putting you on ignore. That picture is more than annoying and I think it is safe to say that you decided to put this picture up to be annoying.

Supa - I respect that position. With that said - since when did BB ever believe that he or his coaching staff have the time to bring around ANY player slowly?

Can they be patient? Yes, to a certain point. I am fairly certain that Tebow is only here because there is no other quarterback on the current roster and I seriously doubt that Brady or Mallett are going to play much if any time in game 4 of the pre-season. Equally, I won't be surprised if another camp arm is brought in shortly for that game as well.

Like I said--it's a controversial subject and it'll remain that way until the conclusion, so I expect a lot of arguing back and forth within the next couple of weeks. That's something I seriously want to avoid. There's just no reason for it, especially since we really don't know 100% either way. There's actually a chance that Belichick may not know 100% just yet.

As far as "bringing along a player slowly," I think it happens more than we'd think. There have even been plenty of times that a first round pick was chosen in the hopes of slowly giving him some reps throughout the first season and blending him into the organization in the hope that he'd contribute in the second year. Just look at projects such as Jake Ballard or Marcus Cannon, who were both selected to be slowly brought about. Hell, even a backup QB choice is often brought in under this scenario. There have been many players who are "developmental," and aren't expected to perform for a year or more. Just about most offensive lineman who go through the Dante school of hard knocks would fall into this category too.

And so ends our brief affair. Like two monkeys who briefly exchanged fecal missiles only to be relocated to non-adjacent cages. I only wonder - where will my life take me from here?

The difference between each of the situations is that Cannon and Ballard were reserved without taking up a spot on the 53-man roster due to their health considerations.

Cannon played in his first year, but I think your overall point is fair. I was just answering your question based on "when" we've ever slowly brought someone along. There have certainly been situations.

The more relevant comparisons would be to backup QBs, guys on the offensive line who were still developmental and not expected to see much of the field, and picks where the specific player wasn't expected to see many snaps.

Even last season, Cannon still only saw about 15% of the snaps, and he actually played a LOT in comparison to the year before.

Patiently waiting to defend the next "bubble" player in this summer's training camp.....

So Logan Ryan?

Don't worry, I can tell them I'm clumsy and fell and hit the doorknob with my face.

That is understandable. Look at it like this and I have said this in a previous post.

After BB determines who the starting 22 players are on the Patriots roster, he has to make a decision on which are the 31 players that need to be considered for the 53-man roster. Three of those players are going to be the punter, kicker and long snapper so in reality we are talking about 28 guys.

28 guys that need to be on the roster that will not only serve as a vital role for the game day roster but will make the roster based on the following criteria:

(1) What is their positional versatility because if there is one thing that we have learned about BB is that he values positional versatility.

(2) What are the salary cap implications to any player being cut. See Miguel because he certainly knows this aspect of any decision to keep or cut a player.

(3) As demonstrated in many cases, BB and his staff make determinations on a players' potential value not just now but in the future as well as what the players' current capabilities are.

(4) Is the player able to be placed on the practice squad and would the player make it to the practice squad if he was released?

In my view, these are the four primary criteria that BB used in determining whether or not you are going to get on the initial 53-man roster.

Armstead (Reserve/NFI)
Bartholomew
Davis
Edds
Haggerty
Harrison (Reserve/NFI)
Jones, B.
Landi
Mattes (Waived/Injured)
Sims
Vallone
Zupanic

Patterson and Schwab would have been cut but the Pats are short of OLs.
I expect the Pats to sign three players to fill out their roster on Monday.
They will also cut these players on 8/27.

So Logan Ryan?

Don't worry, I can tell them I'm clumsy and fell and hit the doorknob with my face.

It actually started when I made my signature a bold prediction that "BOTH" Julian Edelman and Sterling Moore will make it to the 53 man roster and contribute on some level, so I was just continuing the tradition of defending bubble players ;)

I'm honestly rooting hard for L.Ryan. I am just disappointed so far--although it is certainly early of course. Hopefully he progresses and ends up being a great player. I definitely don't have it in for him...just don't feel like he's played too well (putting it mildly) to this point.

Ah Sterling Moore, dude was my hero for the Baltimore game. I was 100% sure he was making this club last year.

Whatever, when it comes to sex and football I shrug off the times I come up short pretty easily.

Which is odd because Field Yates was high on him in his Bucs postmortem.

I added him as soon as i saw it. Troll behaviour is trollish.

what are the practice squad rules? Can tebow be waived and then put on the PS?

Would tebow even accept that?

JackBauer, Kudos to you:

One man's trash ... RT @RapSheet: Source: The #Chiefs are in the process of trading for #49ers WR AJ Jenkins.

You called this guy Rashaun Woods during the middle of his rookie year. Talk about an epic fail of a draft pick.

EDIT: Bust for bust trade:

Chiefs announce acquisition of A.J. Jenkins from the 49ers for Jonathan Baldwin. Wow. Don't see that often.

I'm curious as to whether you're expecting anything of import. genuine question, not taking the piss.

Yea - we have two more weeks of training camp and I am interested in what he expects to say. He is Bill Belichick and as you know, he is ready to prepare for the all-important game 3 of the pre-season.

Additionally, they have closed practices going forward (I believe).

Tebow is not eligible for the practice squad. He shouldn't be eligible for the 53-man roster either as a quarterback.
