giants GM said bills approached them about a trade for mcgahee since they need a RB with tiki gone. but mcgahee is more of a power back, not a great receiver and would be less of a replacement for tiki and more an overlap with the huge back jacobs.

isn't obvious mcgahee would be the perfect replacement for dillon? there styles are similar and mcgahee is probably a touch faster now. mcgahee and maroney would be a very good combination.

so what do the pats need to give up to get mcgahee?

4 first round picks. They're not trading him in the division.

We don't need to be trading for a RB who will cost a solid draft choice and is a UFA in 12 months. If we were a team like Cleveland or The Jest who could sign him long term as their main RB, it makes sense. For us it makes no sense whatsoever.

McGahee has said that he feels is the best back in the NFL. I am not sure he has the "team" attitude or would want to share carries with Maroney. Might be worth looking at but I think far from a sure fit.

part of the trade would include a negotiated extension. bills look like they would take as low as a 3rd round for him, which is all they got for moulds last year.

Just when I think the Bills could take the next step and challenge the Pats...

bills wouldnt mind trading him in the division, he's not that high profile of a player. i have seen a lot of strong performances out of the guy, i think pats need to see what works for them, offer it to bills and give it a shot.

pats definitely need a starting-quality RB now to replace dillon. maroney has not in my mind shown he is the answer. if pats can get mcgahee for a 3rd rounder that's a steal. the guy was a 1st rounder just 4 years ago. he's averaged over 1,000 yards on a team with a poor offense.

for those who don't want mcgahee then tell me who replaces dillon and at what cost?

I think you're going to be disappointed this offseason, Maroney is our starting quality RB.

Why is everyone acting as if Maroney needs another RB to compete with him?

Maroney is going to be a great RB for this team as early as next season. Yet people want to draft Bush and Leonard and sign bigger name FA's.

Theres really no need to do any of this.

I would rather arrange a trade for Takeo Spikes. At any rate,I think McGahee would be a perfect fit in our offense and I would give the Bills a third rounder for him. But we all know they are looking for a first and not a third. I would also never sign this kid to a long term deal, After that hit he took in the NCAA title game which utterly destroyed his knee, how could you? The Bills were smart to draft him probably knowing they could pay him low money for a few years and get something out of him.

I honestly don't know. I would love to see some of these characters go to work with bruised ribs and get gang tackled by a bunch of employees and see how they feel. SB54, Maroney will be an elite RB by midseason. You can almost bank on it barring any unforseen injuries.

To get McGahee, we would have to give up at least a first rounder, get rid of Maroney, and back up the Brinks truck to McGahee's house. As someone said, McGahee thinks he is the best back in the NFL. No way would he dignify himself with a split carry situation with Maroney. At best, McGahee would consider a situation where Maroney was his back up and only got 10-15 carries a game.

Considering McGahee thinks he is the best back in the NFL, he wants to be paid like it. That is why the Bills are considering trading him. Also factor in that McGahee took a below market deal and was drafted well below he would have because of his knee injury, he wants to get that money back too.

I see about a 0.00000001% chance of McGahee being on the Patriots next year. I think I may be too generous in that prediction.

He's a first round pick!

What has he not done to show he can be a starting NFL RB? He was better than Dillon last year.

The trend in the NFL is to have split back. It isn't a bad idea because it limits the wear and tear on you main guy and provides insurance if one goes down. I think the Pats will bring in a RB who is capable of starting if needed, but more like a guy like Chris Brown or Dominic Rhodes (not neccessarily them, but that type of player) rather than trading for a lead back who wants big money like McGahee.

Or just keep a guy like Kevin Faulk who has done essentially a better job than both of the players you just named.

I do think we need a decent RB with a bit of upside in case Maroney gets hurt, I don't want Faulk to have to be our lead back. But Kool Aid will be carrying the load and he'll do it fine.
