This Hernandez news has been so draining that it's easy to forget there's a season starting soon. In 25 days this team will regroup and start the grind again.

I can't wait to see what this team becomes this year and who breaks out and contributes in the vacuum.

Lost in all the non-football news is all of the actual sports news (understandably so). Hopefully in the next week or so the focus can shift to the roster battles in training camp; there should be plenty of them worth discussing, as well as plenty of new players like Adrian Wilson and the rookies to take a loot at.

I'm sure it's something they'll have to hear about all season but it's also something that will keep them acutely focused all season.

The biggest distractions in Patriots history have been Bledsoe/Brady, Milloy being cut, and Spygate. None are murder mind you, but each one of those seasons has something in common.

Geez, "The Longest xx Day" was D-Day, in June of '44. I know, I saw the movie.

Who says there will be a trial. "25 to Life" or plea bargain it down. I bet he takes the plea (if he gets one). Anyway, he's gone now and forever from this football team. In fact they'll hand out whats-his-name's number soon. Here's how any turmoil will be handled:

Agreed but that is the challenge. They'll be another court date in a few weeks, then a grand jury, then an incitement hearing, then jury selection....Ugh.

The problem is that it'll drag out...

I don't think so. I might feel that way if Ahern was still a Patriot, but he isn't. The team has moved on and I certainly have as well. My emotional investment in the guy doesn't go beyond pity and curiosity at this stage.

Good points. They don't have a better coach to navigate them through this off-the-field stuff. However those were immensely talented veteran teams that were in a good position to handle those situations. Not sure about this group.

Accurate but stonewalling doesn't prevent it from not being on the news...

I don't see it being a thing for too long. Spygate was the perfect story because it could be constantly rehashed and speculated on from different angles since it was a football issue.

Unless they start questioning if other Patriots are murderers, I don't see how this can be talked about and hold viewer interest for a whole football season. And if someone DOES say something like "So, I'll bet Tom Brady has murdered a person or two...I doubt Hernandez did it on his own!" I'm sure they will be sued for libel within an hour.

The difference between us and Baltimore is obvious: one stayed on the team and one was cut before the police were done cuffing him. Even the trolls on PFT's message board see the difference.
