Pats tweet: Hernandez released

If the police have this right, Hernandez is an idiot. He couldn't have screwed this up much more if he tried.

Yeah. Sure. How dare we come to a football forum and discuss the impact on the team that our team's best (healthy) receiving threat is now gone.

We're just going to have to disagree on that.

Some things are more important than football. Death and murder, are, for me, among them. There will be time later to discuss the Offense and what this might or might not mean or have meant for it.

Shocked that the Patriots released him before charges, trial or sentencing. I chafe at the notion that someone faces ramifications for something which they have yet to be found guilty.

They must know something we don't know. The comments by Patriots Security Director to Bedard imply as much.

And that's that, I no longer care what happens to Aaron Hernandez.

I disagree. I think the Patriots brass decided their brand was more important. I don't think they know anything special otherwise.
And while I hear your point about not convicted of a thing yet being punished by the Patriots, even if it turns out AH left the scene then the crime took place, even if it is shown that multiple things happened that clearly show he was not part of the pre thought to murder someone and had no participation in the murder, there doesn't seem like any wiggle room to suggest that AH's overall situation that evening was not indicative of a very troubling behavior. Given that and the arrest, the Patriots looking out for their brand is not unfair. Remember, it appears that AH's 12m bonus is his, no matter what. The Patriots letting him go are the ones on the losing end of this at this time.

I'm not saying it's right, but the Ravens set a precedent in the NFL about how this type of situation is handled. And we just did the opposite. That's not going to sit well with folks who think they did the right thing, especially since Hernandez STILL doesn't look as guilty as Ray Lewis (yet.) He might by the end of it, but at this point the charges aren't even out there.

My kneejerk reaction was that they released him too soon, but then I realized that I've always hated the NFL and the Ravens for glorifying Ray Lewis. So in the interest of not being a hypocrite, I revised my opinion after 5 minutes of thought.

I am writing this after the charges became public, but when I heard the Pats released him as soon as he was arrested, I assumed that they had some insider info and they knew that it was going to be a murder charge, or that the obstruction evidence was really strong, and they just wanted to cut ties. Otherwise they would have waited. Who knows, but the Pats did the right thing either way.

An idiot with a huge amount of hubris to think he wouldn't get caught...

I heard (a Rapaport tweet maybe) that they had decided last week that if AH were arrested he would be released. It makes sense, given the swiftness of the announcement.

And maybe just as much stupidity if not more. If the DA's case is true, the amount of evidence AH was leaving was significant and obvious. I thought it was common knowledge GPS info is recorded if you are carrying a smartphone. That all your texts are recorded by your provider. But then his own surveillance recording a gun in his own hand entering his own premises after he shot someone, plus a gun in hand on his surveillance when he is leaving and thinking of shooting someone? Hubris, yes. But it is so ill thought out, it has to be blatant stupidity too. Only other question is this behavior additionally enabled by a chemical.

Then feel free to have that conversation. There are plenty of forums and boards where people talk about current events and high profile crimes and I recommend you go there.

Meanwhile, I have no problem talking about the effect this has on the New England Patriots on a website dedicated to the New England Patriots.

Your presence on this board suggests you have no qualms about discussing football when people not named Odin Lloyd are murdered. Unlike those hundreds or thousands of other murders, this one affects the team's on field performance.

i saw this

"@WesleyLowery: To be clear: DA's saying Aaron Hernandez shot Lloyd three times right after Lloyd got out of the car. Then stood over him & put two in his chest."

that is some hardcore stuff right there....

the pats made a good move releasing if they feel he's guilty

better now than later

So, that Jake Ballard move last summer looks pretty brillant right now, ironically, I almost ordered a Hernandez jersey two weeks ago...

Were you looking at the orange or striped?

Seriously. All this time everyone thought it was Hernandez's "bad crowd" that was to blame, turns out Hernandez is the one who knocks.

Oh that's right. That violent upbringing on the mean streets of Bristol, CT must have led to this. I mean how can anyone grow up normally after witnessing that carnage every day?

Hernandez is an idiot, and it looks like a violent idiot at that. Marijuana, alcohol, strippers and friends are well beside the point.

my point was he loved the lifestyle of a thug more than he loved playing professional football and being free.

I stand by my point.

and that his "friend" or "friends" wouldn't talk in order to avoid jail time.

Why does this need to be about the 'thug life'?

Plenty of people who are not gang-affiliated hurt or kill people when they get angry.

For those who said he'd played his last game as a Patriot, you were right. I still disagree with your kneejerk, emotional mentality, but you were right. Enjoy your day in the sun.

What a waste of talent. Right move by the organization.

I disagree with a stupid mentality, which was on full display by many posters the past few days. Unbelievable that devotion to sports team can make some people so utterly blind.
