Who is available? The team MUST sign an IMPACT WR this offseason. They have no choice with CJ going down. The offense really needs a threat that defenses MUST account for. Jabbar, Reche and Troy are NOT going to cut it.

The team needs a Corey Dillon like signing this offseason. He was a big reason the team won in 2004.

Anybody out there worth looking at in free agency or trades? The team has 11 draft picks to use to bargain with.

I don't think the team should roll the dice again and draft high at this position.

I disagree. Our offense had good season team stats, and our receivers were clicking by playoff time. I also think Chad Jackson will be okay. If you agree that our offense failed in the clutch, as well as didn't have enough big plays, then cross your fingers and hope that Josh McDaniels grows as a coordinator.

Jackson wasn't exactly a sure thing. If we have to sign one now, we had to sign one then too. I expect a FA WR or first day WR but the need has only increased a little bit based on Jackson.

I agree with the JD thing. Losing CW was a HUGE hit to this offense and especially Brady. CW always had a few tricks up his sleeve and they seemed to work more often or not. Hopefully JD has learned a few things or two.

I would love to see a player like Moss here this season for a draft pick. That would make an immediate impact. I don't think the lockeroom would let the guy "take a few plays offs" either. Playing for a winner does wonders for motivation.

Failing that the team needs to bring a bunch of "scrap heap" players to camp and keep the best ones. This has been their usual procedure anyway.

I disagree. There's no such thing as a sure thing in sports, but I think the team was going to bank on Jackson developing into a productive player next season.

Gaffney & Caldwell & a healthy and developed Jackson is a great trio - now, we're not entirely sure for how much of the season we'll have CJ and how effective he'll be. I think it does change our plans.

I think it makes more sense to sign a FA then draft. With CJ's role a little in the air for next season, the need becomes for 07. We know it's tough to ask a wideout to come in and compete in his rookie season, so we really need to adress the hole in free agency. Kevin Curtis would be nice.

Please no Moss.... i posted his 3 year stat where he yards were around 700 for 2 and 1000 for 1.Give jabbar a whole season he will beat all the 3 numbers which moss generated.

Actually watson numbers are better than 2 of the last 3 years of moss.
Also , he has a hugh contract and we cannot cut him if we find he cannot run routes or lacks the work ethic to read the game plan week after week.
they had a show on chad and he shows this thick book with 200 plays which he is reading for the next week game.... that is work ethic and for soemreason people think he is going to pick a 200 page book and read it week after week after nearly spending his life never doing it.

I see a FA but a lower pick brought in. ...guys like kight and bam deserve a shot last year once reche took the spot and jabbar came it they pretty got ths snaps with brady.with them in a more comfort zone give this guys a break would be my thought. Also , our offence except for themiami game was really good people forget the viking game and sd game where we won because of WR not the running game.

Uh, your threshold for IMPACT WR must be really low...

While I still see WR a pos of need, it is not the same as last season. We picked up 2 very good wr's who will be fine. We drafted one that remains a ?.
We definitely made strides to be younger and deeper at that position. I would say that a solid Pats type wr added in FA (Curtis?) would be all that would be necessary to make this unit solid for 2007.

I think Jackson's injury may increase the likelihood that the Pats will sign a good FA WR like Curtis, but I don't think it makes them any more likely to draft a WR in the 1st round.

Jackson's injury doesn't make a 1st round WR less likely to be a bust,

Jackson's injury doesn't change the fact that first year WRs usually are not very productive,

Jackson's injury doesn't make our back eight less in need of an injection of talented youth,

Jackson's injury doesn't change the fact that defense wins.

why now that jackson went down do we need an impact wr? was jackson some sort of impact wr this year? did i miss something? gaffney, caldwell, brown, and watson are enough to cut it and they proved it last year. they were one half away from the super bowl. sure do the pats want an impact wr? yes. there is the want, i am not sure of the need part yet.

I guess you are in the chicken little fan club.

They Pats do not NEED to sign an IMPACT WR. They need to sign a WR who can come in and be effective.

Also, The Pats didn't SIGN Corey Dillon. They traded for him. Big difference there.

If you're OK with the Pats just winning the division and taking the 4 seed, while having games with no offensive production whatsoever, forcing them to play more road playoff games (and increasing their chances of losing) then they don't need an impact receiver.

If you'd like to see the Pats become more dominant and a legitimate threat for HFA, then an impact receiver is necessary.

Hey, we did terrific with the group of receivers we had last year, but it was just too much inexperience with our system coupled with an overall downgrade in talent that prevented us from doing better.

I agree completly. They need a smart, talented team player so that when TB retires we aren't left in a lurch by his absence.

They need to go get Kevin Curtis, he's a perfect fit for the Pats. Curtis, Gaffney, Caldwell, Brown & (eventually) Jackson. THAT"S a solid Pat's WR corp IMO.

I don't think that that trio is enough to "cut it". Though I was impressed with Jabar at the end of the season.

There are plenty of 1st year receivers who have made an impact in the league. Look at Irving Fryer his rookie season.

CJ was a huge dispointment and now who knows when/if he will be back and at what level. He may lose a step due to that injury.

The schedule is stacked against the team this season. Any edge they can get on offense will be needed.

And if you think I am crying like chicken little then that's fine.

Ok, what IMPACT WR did the Pats have in 2001? What IMPACT WR did they have in 2003 and 2004?

If you say Troy Brown and Deion Branch, I am going to laugh hysterically because that just isn't the case.

The Pats PRIDE themselves on going to the OPEN receiver. If the Pats can put 3 receivers on the field who can all catch the ball, one will get open and Brady will find them.

Your hypothesis that the Patriots will only win the division and take the 4 seed because of ONE PLAYER on OFFENSE other than the QB is just GARBAGE and not supported by reality.

I'm sorry, but you are mentioning Irving Fryar's rookie season? What exactly did the Pats do that year?

What about Terry Glenn's rookie season? What did the Pats do that year?

Terming Chad Jackson as a "HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT" means that YOUR expectations were out of whack.

OH, and thinking that Jackson, who is only 21, might lose a step means you really are clueless about ACL injuries and the advances that have occured in the last 10 years.

I don't THINK you are crying like chicken little. I KNOW you ARE crying like chicken little. You have constantly blown things so grossly out of proportion that you really are losing any credibility you might have had.

How many 1st year WRs have had an impact since Irving Fryar?

How many 1st year WRs have there been since Irving Fryar?

Let me know what the % is and then we can talk about how there have been "plenty" of 1st year WRs who have made an impact.

Troy Brown of '01 and Branch were far better than any receiver the Pats currently have and that's a fact.

Yeah, the Pats will go to the open receiver, provided that receiver can actually get open. Did you not watch the Denver, Jets(#2), Miami(#2) or SD games? The passing offense was horrible those days.

The Pats do need a deep threat on offense so D's will play us honest. They also need to be a scoring machine again (a la 2004) because our defense will likely go through some growing pains b/c of the LB position. Unless you believe we're perfectly fine at the LB position.
