You guys take a statement and run with it. The Bears have their problems. Defense sure as hell isn't one of them. The pats have had crap D since 2007.Total crap. Is this even arguable?
Right, they paid so much for their defense, they don't have the money to upgrade their O-line to avoid getting their QB killed. Being cheap is an acceptable criticism in baseball where there is no hard cap. In the NFL as long as you're spending to the cap every year, as the Pats are doing, it is a matter of allocating resources. Do you overpay for players#1-5 and not have enough to upgrade the back end of your roster or do you allocate to each position to maximize the total roster value to ensure that you put the best most competitive team out there every year???
While the defense hasn't been great, it's ranking in points allowed since 2006 (out of 32)
#2,4,8,5,8,15,9. They have been the top half of least points allowed every year......
