Joe Flacco now the highest paid QB in NFL history

Can't say Joe Flacco isn't a big winner in all of this.

I love this though, wouldn't the Ravens negative in cap room after this deal??

"Highest paid" is meaningless. Until the terms are announced, it really doesn't matter. I could be for $300 million and not really mean anything.

Schefter says 6 years, over $120M :lol2:

Flacco the highest paid QB....lol Just becasue of 1 postseason. Lets see how he does without a D....

He needs to write a big thank you note to the idiotic Denver Broncos' DB that let Jacoby Jones free for that 70-yard TD.

Rahim Moore must be Baltimore's favorite son right now.

Normally I'd agree with this type of argument, but in this case I think you're underselling Flacco's performance this postseason. He played incredibly well, and he, far more than any other factor, is why they won the SB.

Really? I'm sorry but a good safety and not choking Manning and we wouldn't even discuss this topic. In the first half he got outplayed against us and with Gronkowski and therefore a better red zone offense there is a high chance that the game would've been over at the half or atleast they would've needed a great comeback. In the Superbowl he played really well but special teams and his defense helped him greatly. Did he stop Kaepernick in the red zone with nearly no time left?

I'm not saying that he didn't play great or anything just that there were many factors to this superbowl win. Kapernick had a even better post season and with better refs maybe even a ring by now should he be getting 20m+?

With him demanding so much money and therefore eating up so much from the cap they need to be able to rely on him to even get them in the play offs. Only QB that I'd pay this kind of money is Aaron Rodgers. He proved he can win it all and be a great QB with a weak team around him

I am looking forward to the gutting of the Ravens!!!! I am also looking forward to the pounding he is going to take from a crappy Oline..LOL

RIP Ravens franchise

That's an awful lot of ifs.

Over the divisional round, AFCCG, and Super Bowl, the Ravens averaged 33 points, and he didn't turn the ball over once. He played quarterback about as well as it can be played for a solid month, when the stakes were at their absolute highest.

Taking an $17-18 million cap hit on Flacco is not going to end the Ravens, for Pete's sake.

Look at it this way -- even if Flacco takes up $36 million cap room for the next two years, the Patriots and the Ravens will take pretty much the same cap hit for the next two years for their QB and their kicker, even with Brady's restructure.

dont they have around 18 million in cap space right now and a few players to resign?

3 games where he played really well. Of course when it really mattered. But he had a mediocre regular, so is he good enough to win it again with a much weaker team because they don't have the cap for it? What would you tell Aaron Rodgers or how much would you pay him? Won a Super Bowl, MVP. I bet the Packers fans really hate Flacco now.

Yeah, I was just sort of making a point about how overpaid our kicker is. I would expect Flacco's contract to look pretty similar to Brees' -- except one year longer -- in terms of cap profile. So, Flacco will get guaranteed money for 3 years, with the hit spread out to be very back heavy in the years when he can be cut or restructured. Here are the cap hits on Brees' 5 year/$100 million contract:

2012: $10.4 million
2013: $17.4 million
2014: $18.4 million
2015: $26.4 million
2016: $27.4 million

I would guess Flacco will look something like this:

2013: $10-12 million
2014: $18 million
2015: $20 million
2016: $23 million
2017: $24 million
2018: $25 million

Which gives them $6 to 8 million to play with this year.

He could've been a billionaire if Brady didn't cheap out.

Cam Cameron sucked, can't blame that on Flacco. Once he was gone, the entire offense picked it up.

how much of that 8 million is for draft picks?? Say 4 million.....so they have 4 million to play with.....so they are going to have to do alot of restructuring......but sooner or later....you will have to pay the piper....

Absolutely correct. Dude played tremendous football in the biggest games and moments. He deserves to be very well paid. He's got a pretty impressive resume at this stage of his career.

I just hope that they pay him enough so that it makes it more difficult to improve the team elsewhere.

No doubt, although that's what they said about Brady's deal. Maybe after making $60 million guaranteed, Flacco does what Brady did. Brees is going to be the test case one year earlier.

The debate about whether Flacco is worth this contract is, IMHO, a bit beside the point. Lots of life is about timing. If you’re the guy dating the amazing girl when she decides she’s ready to get married, you win. It doesn’t necessarily make you better than the other guys that came before.

Flacco’s timing was perfect. You can’t let the super bowl MVP go in free agency, especially with nothing out there to replace him. And, the Ravens were in a position where they didn’t have the cap space to franchise him. The end. Flacco wins. It’s really not much more complicated than that.
