which begs tha question......what if brady gets hurt next year, mallett comes in and basically takes the team at least as far as brady has the last few years? what then?
Then the Patriots probably can trade Mallett for a 1st round pick.

Well, here's what Alex Smith gets the Niners:
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Chiefs will trade second-round pick this year - the top pick in second round - as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014.
I don't see the Pats getting more than the third they used to draft Mallett in the first place, maybe a later-round pick thrown in.
Sorry this only helps Mallet's stock imo.. the price just went up! :rocker::rocker::rocker::rocker:
You have to remember teams are desperate to WIN NOW.. and there are stilla couple out there that don't have a viable option and this years class is suspect to say the least.
Watch out for Cleveland and Tampa Bay
Not sure how this helps Mallett's stock when you consider that Alex Smith has a long resume behind him.
If anything, it hurt's Mallett's stock unless the conditional pick is a potential 1st rounder.
The top value for Mallett this year is a 4th rounder with a conditional pick in 2014. More than likely a 5th with a conditional pick in 2014. If he starts 10 games with a new team and does fairly well, that conditional could be a 3rd or a 2nd (maybe).
Anyone thinking he's worth more than that is dreaming.
Possible landing spots:
Kansas City - Cassel put up a QB rating of 66.66, just barely worse than Sanchez
Arizona - Kolb was not the answer, and Skelton threw 9 interceptions to 2 TD's
NY Jets - an effective, inexpensive QB could really help the team, and remember that Bledsoe was traded within the division as well
Jacksonville - Chad Henne & Blaine Gabbert are the latest in a parade of unsuccessful QB's there
Oakland - always willing to give up draft picks for the next QB
Philadelphia - re-establish the beloved tradition of trading with Philly?
Tennessee - Jake Locker put up 2000 yards and 10 TD's to 11 INT's
I'm hoping the Pats hold a Pro Day type of thing for Mallett. That'd give him an opportunity to show off the footwork and release that he supposedly has improved on over the past two years. If they can make that work out, I don't see why a first round pick wouldn't be possible.
With the Alex Smith trade for a 2nd and a conditional mid round pick in 2014 what do you think we could get for Mallett. I think we could get either a future 1st round or a 2nd and a 3rd.
Btw feel free to merge this with another thread if you think it should be
