Possible Landing Spots for Mallett

which begs tha question......what if brady gets hurt next year, mallett comes in and basically takes the team at least as far as brady has the last few years? what then?

Then the Patriots probably can trade Mallett for a 1st round pick.

Well, here's what Alex Smith gets the Niners:

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
Chiefs will trade second-round pick this year - the top pick in second round - as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014.

I don't see the Pats getting more than the third they used to draft Mallett in the first place, maybe a later-round pick thrown in.

Sorry this only helps Mallet's stock imo.. the price just went up! :rocker::rocker::rocker::rocker:

You have to remember teams are desperate to WIN NOW.. and there are stilla couple out there that don't have a viable option and this years class is suspect to say the least.

Watch out for Cleveland and Tampa Bay

Not sure how this helps Mallett's stock when you consider that Alex Smith has a long resume behind him.

If anything, it hurt's Mallett's stock unless the conditional pick is a potential 1st rounder.

OTOH, Mallett costs <$1.5M for the next two years, and no renegotiation is possible until after next season.

I thought Hoyer had shown much more than Mallet has and he couldn't even land a spot as free, as in no cost in players or draft picks as compensation, agent. Yet Mallett is worth something between the 6th pick in the draft and a couple of 2nd round picks. Mallett's most likely landing spot is the Patriot's sideline with a headset on.

The top value for Mallett this year is a 4th rounder with a conditional pick in 2014. More than likely a 5th with a conditional pick in 2014. If he starts 10 games with a new team and does fairly well, that conditional could be a 3rd or a 2nd (maybe).

Anyone thinking he's worth more than that is dreaming.

Possible landing spots:

Kansas City - Cassel put up a QB rating of 66.66, just barely worse than Sanchez
Arizona - Kolb was not the answer, and Skelton threw 9 interceptions to 2 TD's
NY Jets - an effective, inexpensive QB could really help the team, and remember that Bledsoe was traded within the division as well
Jacksonville - Chad Henne & Blaine Gabbert are the latest in a parade of unsuccessful QB's there
Oakland - always willing to give up draft picks for the next QB
Philadelphia - re-establish the beloved tradition of trading with Philly?
Tennessee - Jake Locker put up 2000 yards and 10 TD's to 11 INT's

Oakland always loved those QB's with cannon arms.

What is Ryan Mallett worth?

With the Alex Smith trade for a 2nd and a conditional mid round pick in 2014 what do you think we could get for Mallett. I think we could get either a future 1st round or a 2nd and a 3rd.
Btw feel free to merge this with another thread if you think it should be

Re: What is Ryan Mallett worth?

No higher than a 3rd at this moment. Not sure why people think you can get a pick higher than he was drafted at this time.

Re: What is Ryan Mallett worth?

No more than a 4th.

Re: What is Ryan Mallett worth?

I'm hoping the Pats hold a Pro Day type of thing for Mallett. That'd give him an opportunity to show off the footwork and release that he supposedly has improved on over the past two years. If they can make that work out, I don't see why a first round pick wouldn't be possible.

There is absolutely zero chance we get anything near a first round pick for him. Alex Smith has a 13-3 season under his belt and he didn't even fetch a first. This is like how talk of Hoyer could get us a 2nd round pick. Completely bloated expectations of him.

I would be extremely surprised if we got a second.

Re: What is Ryan Mallett worth?

Whilst I'd prefer an outright 2nd rounder, a swap of second round picks plus a 4th (or future 3rd) would be good. It's the equivalent of a late 2nd to mid third rounder.

If we can also trade back from our first into the early 2nd, with this deep draft, two early 2nd rounders plus an additional mid-rounders, we could really fill Vollmer/Arrington/Gregory shaped holes.

Re: What is Ryan Mallett worth?

I would say absolute best case, a second rounder. Worst case, a 4th.

His value is whatever another team is willing to offer so no one on this board is qualified to definitively say what his value is. It's just baseless speculation.

My personal opinion is he's a better prospect than any QB coming out of the draft this year with the added bonus of being in the Patriots system for two years. I also think he was a better prospect than Locker, Gabbart, and Ponder who went at 8,10 and 12 in the 2011 draft. If a GM feels the same than a high pick could be justified. In any case I doubt the Pats would take anything less than what they have already invested in him (a 3rd rounder) plus a conditional pick based on playing time or performances.

Re: What is Ryan Mallett worth?

I think what is lost on this board is it only takes one team to value and target their guy.
Ala Tavon Wilson
Don't think for a second that he isn't the top target Lomabardi and the Brown's are looking for.
There was no interest in Smith nothing linking them to Flynn or any of the rookie qbs.
He was the top qb on Mike's board I think thats at least worth a second and additional consideration based on performance.
What about Joe Haden we have a need for secondary players and he is a top talent.
Before someone says they would never do that think about who you would rather have one your team your first choice at qb or a defensiveback.
Mallett has done nothing to stop Lombardis love affair and lucky for us the Qb class is weak as ever.
So do you bet the farm on a Barkley a Glennon or someone who has learned behind the best in Mallett.
At the end of the day if the compensation is right I believe Cleveland will land their QB and we will see if Lombardis love affair is justified because it sure as hell won't be Weeden or McCoy.

I hope that's medical marijuana you're smoking

I would jump for joy at a 3rd and expect a 4th with conditional low pick enhancement in 2014. Dunno if BB would make the trade for a 4th but I think he'd love a 3rd which he could use to trade up his 2nd in this draft that is deep where we need.
