Donte Stallworth to IR

so glad shiancoe is cut, he LITERALLY costed me my playoff fantasy game. I was up by 2.7 points with 3 mins. He causes the pick and that lead to houston scoring a td. FIGURES i have the pats defence, so i lost 3 points from that touchdown against. I lost by .3 points because of that lol

WTF?! I don't want Branch. He offers absolutely no separation or deep threat. He basically just eats up a roster spot. I know he's got the playbook down inside and out, but honestly, i'd rather just throw Slater in at 3rd WR and see what happens. At least he could simply run by people in a straight line.

Seriously? Why would you risk injury to a star special teams player putting him out on offense? Anyone can fill that role. ;-)

Friggin **** tease

I would unironically love to see us bring in TO but I have a soft spot for whack job WRs and crazy women so it's probably best if you ignore me.

Gaffney? I love that guy.

Not much available, maybe try someone's practice squad.

It seems like just yesterday that Mike Sims Walker was the best WR on the Jags.....what happened to him?

ouch. he provided us a real deep threat in the texans game. then he gets hurt after 1 game! not very lucky. i feel sorry for Stallworth. this is a year that he had a real shot at a ring with us!

First thing that pop on my mind is Mike William of the Bucs, then I realize it couldn't.

Bizarre move. Would rather have Stallworth. Branch could not have made the play Stall did last night.

Agreed, bizarre.
Is he that hurt? Didn't seem so. Maybe this is an appreciation move by BB to keep him on the team, keep getting a paycheck, and get him an AFCC and SB ring?:D

At least Stallworth was productive while he was healthy!

Awesome. 2 wrs and 1 te and 3 rbs...not a lot to work with...

Man injuries racking up now..edleman..gronk...him..talib..dennars

Welker, Lloyd,
Hernandez, Fells, Hoomanawanui
Ridley, Vereen, Woodhead, Bolden, Develin

I count 2WR, 3 TE and 5 RBs..

How about picking a wr that the scouts sais is good and not someone they said you should avoid, say someone like Chad Jackson who the scouts told BB to avoid but he didn't. He trusted other people than the scoutes and that didn't really work out.

He trusted his OC, who was McDaniels and he ignored his position coach, Brian Daboll. And that is the only instance we know of. There have been other WRs that also haven't worked out. Ones that BB trusted his scouts on. What BS are you going to mention about them? Guys like Tate and Price?

This news kind of sucks. Stallworth was a huge improvement over Branch. I know that Branch knows this playbook extremely well, but he is slow and can't get any seperation. Stallworth knows the playbook and can get open down field as we saw in the game. I'm sorry but Branch is a 4-5 option at wr, at best. He has been really good for us other years but age has not been kind to him. You can have any magical connection with Brady, but if you can't get open then you can't. No connection can help that. I think fans have a hard time accepting this.

Stallworth knew the playbook so well that the Pats essentially benched him in favor of Jabar Gaffney during the tail end of the 2007 season and play-offs. Amazing how history gets re-written.

What's with all the branch bashing, yah he's lost a step yah he's a bit slower yah he's older. But you got to admit when everyone else is covered and others teams look past branch, Brady knows right where he is and branch knows where to be. They always seem to connect. And not always but sometimes you see branch make big plays in openings.

Really? Is that what 9 receptions in 7 games tells you?

Un-freaking-believable. Why in the world can we not keep receivers healthy?

In retrospect, cutting Salas might have been a mistake—we just don't know if he had TFB's trust—but losing Edelman was very, very unfortunate.

You're probably right. Yet Salas really hadn't seen the field with the Patriots so what would have been his actual value? He may have been too raw for our system and been no better than using Slater on some routes.

BB made a calculated gamble and it sure appears like a bust of a move. I don't disagree with BB's philosophy to roster gamble to maximize each week's roster effectiveness (Salas spot was needed elsewhere that week). Yet considering Shiancoe just got Shiat-canned, it looks even more egregious to have gambled with Salas roster spot (again in retrospect).

Either Shiancoe really pissed off BB (or JM or TFB), the CB group is injured to the point we must sign a CB (and someone simply had to go) or Gronk is coming back this week. Otherwise it just doesn't make sense to have gone quite far out of our way to keep Shiancoe, where he has knowledge of our system, receivers in general are in short supply, yet we cut him (maybe BB had a Monday night epiphany of "wait a minute...this guy Shiancoe sucks! Why did I keep him?).

Not at all. I just didn't see it as a game saving catch, and I understand an opponent was running at full steam. After he caught the ball, did you think to yourself, wow that guy sure can run? Right before that catch, he looked lost. So in his last stint with the Pats, how many catches did he make?

This is my take as well.

I mean, Bethel and Slater also caught bombs from Brady.

This is such a bummer. Stallworth looked like he still has the same speed he had in 07. Dude still can flat out fly. What a great play that was last night. Reminded me a bit of that play he made in the playoffs against JAX in 07 hat should have been a breakaway TD but he got distracted by the jumbotron

Damnit...i was defending Branch earlier in the year but it seemed like he really had nothing left.

He trusted his OC, who was McDaniels and he ignored his position coach, Brian Daboll. And that is the only instance we know of. There have been other WRs that also haven't worked out. Ones that BB trusted his scouts on. What BS are you going to mention about them? Guys like Tate and Price?

Stallworth knew the playbook so well that the Pats essentially benched him in favor of Jabar Gaffney during the tail end of the 2007 season and play-offs. Amazing how history gets re-written.

So you failed on a couple of wide receivers in the second round so you should just quit taking them? We failed with Ochocinco, so now more free agent receivers? We failed with Haynesworth, so no more Defensive tackles? Yes, we have had som **** ups in the receiver drafting, but that doesn't mean you can just stop drafting receivers. It may mean that our system for evaluating receivers have some flaws.

I am not talking about five years ago, I am talking about this year, and clearly Stallworth had more ability to make plays left in him than Branch. Even do Stallworth maybe don't know the playbook as good, he know it enough and has the speed to get open.
