But if people are coming to a Patriots discussion board solely to stir stuff up and create drama, why should they be catered to? This board has quality posters and quality discussion, that is what brings most people to the board, not inane "fights".

And I don't think anyone should be banned, IMO. Just keep the threads in check.

They shouldn't be catered to. They should be ignored. And yet, they're not, because sometimes people just like to fight. It's completely natural. Most of the time I don't want to be bothered with that crap, but sometimes it's very cathartic, as well.

Just ask gomezcat, who recently called me "fart face". :)

Someone suggested those things could be carried on through PM which sounds like a great idea to me.
I do understand what you are saying, it could be frustrating to get called out and not be able to respond. Maybe thats the reason they get so many posts to them.

I think that would be the down side. I just came on a little while ago and there was one thread that had been going on all day. I really felt I had something to say on it (which may not have been a good idea) and I would have been frustrated if I hadn't.

The "ban NEM" thread is and example of a thread that should be locked and moved right off. I posted on it in anger then deleted my post but it shouldn't even be a thread that has any legs.

Now I'm off again.

"NEM look-at-me threads" have no place on the football forum any more than they have to do with the draft forum.

People choose to participate in those threads. Others ignore them. They have never ruined my appreciation and enjoyment of this board. NEM & Co are colorful if bizarre characters who obviously need this board to express themselves. Maybe it helps them work through personal issues and provides an outlet to the world that otherwise would be missing. I don't read those threads, and they don't bother me.

But this board should be about Patriots discussion, not about pissing contests. I've been on other boards that are heavily moderated, and while people complain about it sometimes, I think it's much better. Everything is more focused. And this is a good message board, no one wants to see it overrun with other stuff.

Why not just have a separate forum where those threads can be moved to? That way the main board stays clean.

A-Clown town?

Best solution:

Open an uncensored section where all the threads of that nature go.

I can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning and read all 15 pages of this thread.

Good point.
I suppose one result of locking them would be that someone could create a new thread on the real topic of the thread that went to hell.

I'm very serious with this question though, because if my instinct is correct that we should just lock them, how do they get so many posts to them?

I agree on locking them. There should not be room for non-football issues or bickering between people. It's turning into Dennis and Callahan.

The mods can move those "threads" to our version of A-clown assylum. The mods will be busy. :D

NEM has good insight and points at times, but I'm sick of the "persecution complex" and whining.

It seems that every time I sign into this board, it is filled with non-football threads, that are just about people whining about each other, usually NEM vs the world.
My inclination as moderator is to just delete or lock those threads, but they get an awful lot of posts, so there may be people here who enjoy them.
I'd like everyones opinion. Should those type of threads live on as part of what the board is about, or should they be deleted?
I have an opinion AJ which relates to the heart of the subject of this thread: namely NEM against the world as it plays out here on PatsFans.com

This messageboard was the 1st one I ever joined, so I cut my teeth here. That I recognized early on about the looming presence that is the man from Phoenix here did not take long. Before long I found a second messageboard, ironically from a link posted here, that has become my primary board of choice to interact and learn from other Patriots fans.

While PatsFans.com is bookmarked to open when my browser starts every day, I do not interact here much if at all any longer.

A thread started by you observing how some Pats fans were acting like manic depressives over the path the team was traveling at times this past year really sealed the deal for me for not making this a board for me to participate and interact on when the 1st response was from the man from Phoenix attacking you for (in so many words) attacking HIM directly as the subject of your thread.

I didn't see it that way at all as you did not in any way allude and/or infer that you were directing your comments at him and had I been you I would have flushed this 1st responding ahoe right then and there.

so to directly answer your original question, Yes, I think threads that are whining contests ONLY from start to finish are worthy of deletion or locking from the main football forum here

but damn, sometimes they can be a source of entertainment

Either lock a thread when it turns into a p!$$ing match, or establish a new subforum for such nonsense and banish all such threads there. No need to delete a thread that perhaps started on other terms. Lets keep the football forum for football discussion.

Just curious, how long ago was it that NEM apologized and everything was peaceful? a month or so?

Yes, please lock any thread on the football forum that is an NEM fiasco. (now, granted, that'll probably be most of the threads, but still)

EXACTLY...and, for the record let me ask you a question.

I start a lot of threads about a certain topic. Maybe too many, maybe not.

But when these threads getout of control, who is it that usually causes it to happen... certainly not me..... there is no logic to me doing that to my own thread. It usually starts with someone joining the thread, based on FOOTBALL conversation, and they, not I, turn it into a personal pissing contest. Do I get involved in the pissing contest? Yes, I probably do, but it was never I that initiated it...if someone disagrees with my views, then dlebate it, but instead some of them make it personal, and you know that is the fact.

You know that is the truth, dont you?

When Deion Branch's agent started a contest and made his debate public, did BB respond and bicker back? Become BB. Rise above the lunacy.

That was a farce, but yes, that little lie was perpetrated about a month ago.

I think that any thread that degrades off topic should be moved and/or locked, depending on your best judgment. As long as its on topic and relevant, then its fair game.

Sometimes I find them amusing :)

I dont initiate the pissing contests, plain and simple.

I'm sorry, but, you started a thread titled "let's do this again" after the initial pissing contest had fallen to page 2. So, re-evaluate your idea of truth.
