It seems that every time I sign into this board, it is filled with non-football threads, that are just about people whining about each other, usually NEM vs the world.
My inclination as moderator is to just delete or lock those threads, but they get an awful lot of posts, so there may be people here who enjoy them.
I'd like everyones opinion. Should those type of threads live on as part of what the board is about, or should they be deleted?

If you won't delete NEM then at least delete his :
"LOOK AT ME" threads...

Lock 'em down Andy! If people want to pee on each other they can use the PM functional until the cows come home.

Lock them.

The problem is many of those threads started out good and then a difference of opinion turned it into a "morass of negativity".

There is no easy answer. People can get frustrated if they don't have a chance to add their comments.

I will say this, whatever you or any of the other mod's decide to do, I'll support.

I don't participate in those pissing contests and they do seem to siphon off a lot of energy where football talk belongs. I say move them to the pub where they will die a quick death, and that will help prevent similar threads from popping up.

I do think it's possible that while people seem to enjoy badgering each other in those "whining/attack" threads, it's not a good thing to let perpetuate itself.

Thanks, by the way, for being concerned about OT threads and ephemera like what you're trying to address.

Good point.
I suppose one result of locking them would be that someone could create a new thread on the real topic of the thread that went to hell.

I'm very serious with this question though, because if my instinct is correct that we should just lock them, how do they get so many posts to them?

A solution needs to be reached. Having the football forum for the whole off-season/summer become NEM vs. everyone else is unacceptable.

But this board should be about Patriots discussion, not about pissing contests. I've been on other boards that are heavily moderated, and while people complain about it sometimes, I think it's much better. Everything is more focused. And this is a good message board, no one wants to see it overrun with other stuff.

Why not just have a separate forum where those threads can be moved to? That way the main board stays clean.

It's too bad we couldn't lock specific users from a post if they get into a p!ssing contest.

Someone suggested those things could be carried on through PM which sounds like a great idea to me.
I do understand what you are saying, it could be frustrating to get called out and not be able to respond. Maybe thats the reason they get so many posts to them.

Whatever gets people talking. The poop will always get stirred, but the talk will always turn back to football. The sad fact is that drama keeps message boards alive, and it keeps people coming back.

if you look at those threads, most of the responses are from the same person replying over and over again, and repeating himself. Those threads has no real substance , they should be locked.

If the mods lock them, NEM will create new ones titled, hE aTTACKED Me, cALLed me LIAR... HERE my proof.

When a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
If NEMs agitator posts are posted and locked and no one can respond was it a thread?

But if people are coming to a Patriots discussion board solely to stir stuff up and create drama, why should they be catered to? This board has quality posters and quality discussion, that is what brings most people to the board, not inane "fights".

And I don't think anyone should be banned, IMO. Just keep the threads in check.

Trust your instincts. Lock them or move them to the Pub.

Let them start a thread there where anyone and everyone can vent at NEM and vice versa.

They'll all get tired of it real quick. I know I did.

I ignore all of NEM's political posts - don't even bother with that forum here anymore... I ignore the other threads of those who bash NEM and the threads where NEM bashes others.

I do comment on NEM's football posts and have even found some common ground with him there.

All of that's been a prescription to me enjoying this board much more than I would before when getting into pissing matches with NEM.

And if NEM does something banable, ban him - and if others do something banable, ban them.

That's the quickest way to keep things in check around here.

maybe the person *coughNEMcough* starting all these threads should be warned to stop!

all I'm saying is that NEM will have to become busier creating new threads (to continue the fight), and the mods will have to become busier locking them. You know, the cycle of NEM.
