What if his rage stems from the fact that it wasn't his dna? I'm not saying that it was or was not, but, what if it was not? That might trigger some rage...
I hate that people always seem to find the need to go that route. There doesn't seem to be any indication there was any question it was his dna.
I think from what we can decipher it seems most likely the issues were related to control, trust and jealousy - the usual suspects in these cases. The couple argued frequently and the three year relationship was somewhat off and on as a result. Reportedly she was still persuing a degree although she had taken the semester off after the birth of Zoey. She was attending a concert with a group of friends and went for a drink afterwards. He was reportedly texting her throughout about when she would be home. That was the argument they had at 1AM when she did return home. And it continued shortly before 8AM and escalated to the point he killed her even in the presence of his own mother.
Belcher was said to be passionate and emotional, not to mention driven to succeed. Maybe he was that way in his relationships as well as in his career. When he was at Maine he had an incident following a relationship breaking up where he punched a mesh reinforced window and nearly severed his thumb. He had no history of violence against women, but he had a history of losing control when a relationship wasn't panning out. College coaches and teamates chalked that up to emotional immaturity and assumed he no longer was. That may have been wishful thinking.
Unfortunately he may have merely gone from being an emotional kid who punched windows when a romantic relationship didn't pan out as envisioned to a millionaire NFL player with a Bentley and a gun faced with another relationship that perhaps wasn't panning out as he envisioned. Often times in that kind of relationship it becomes less about cheating than if I can't have you no one can. Which is a little different than, say, what Rae Carruth did...taking the life of a woman carrying his child and nearly taking the life of that child in the process lest either of them somehow threaten his future earnings. One was a crime of passion, the other a greed based premeditated crime of convenience.
Belcher also suffered at least one concussion since joining the NFL back in 2009, his rookie season, following which he played in a game 4 days later. For all we know he could have done some things to increase his odds of making it at the next level in the interim that impacted his mental state. Guys clawing their way to that all important second contract, especially as UDFA's and late round draft picks, can become goal obcessed to a fault (some fans persist really shouldn't be seen as one). He was also playing on a RFA tender this season, the second round tender of $1.9M following 3 years at minimun salary. Ergo he was in a contract season on a 1-10 team likely to be blown up. Brady Quinn was interviewed and said that once again teamates are questioning why they didn't see or sense whatever was brewing with a guy they spent countless hours a day with. They all thought he was not only a great teamate but happy as could be apart from the game with his relationship and his new family.
Of course none of this excuses or even mitigates what he did. But seeking explanations is not about exusing so much as understanding the behavior in the hopes that understanding helps someone else avoid it going forward. Tortured souls do foolish and at times heartless things. For relative strangers that wipes out the possibility they ever did anything good or right. Not so easy for those closest to them to come to the same conclusion. What was that Jesus supposedly said...love the sinner hate the sin? Tough days ahead starting at noon today for his family, friends, past and present teamates. I'd say for Chief's fans but reading the board at Chief's Planet they don't really seem to have many lately, just self absorbed, disgruntled consumers who wish ill on their own players and want Pioli fired so badly some are even upset that a tragedy of this magnitude might preclude or delay that...
