Am I the only one that thinks Donnie Edwards would be a great 2 or 3 year pickup?

I think he would. How he has made it as a 3-4 ILB at that size is beyond me though. I would still rather see us get some youth in there. We have had nothing but dinosaurs at LB since Belichick came here and it always seems to blow up in our face.

Those dinasaurs have been a strength of our team since Belichick arrived. Those dinasaurs have been the heart and soul of the defense. Did the linebackers play poorly last year? Were they the weakness of the team. How soon will we forget that we gave up fewer points than all but one NFL team. Our red zone defense was similar. We allowed the fewest touchdown passes.
Had our offense had one more first down, those dinasaurs would have kept Manning out of the Super Bowl. BTW, look as some of Manning's interviews over the past few years. You will find that he has a tremendous amount of respect for our linebackers.

Belichick has a philosophy that many don't like. He fills many roster spots will older veterans (with a special cap credit) instead of inexperienced kids. That strategy has been seen on the whole defense, but especially at linebacker.

And just by the way, I suggest you calculate the average age of our linebackers and compare to other teams. You may be surprised.

Colvin,Bruschi,Alexander,Vrabel,Woods and Mays

But the starters are old? Are they? What is wrong with experienced veterans and young STers as backups.

I agree with the FO. I think the best addition is a veteran. Would I like a top draft choice? Of course! Poz is my choice.

Donnie Edwards, in a heartbeat. Aside from his obvious skills, how sweet would it be for the "used" Chargers (Harrison, Seau, Edwards, Caldwell) to beat up on the shiny new Chargers? One thing I think is the case w/Edwards, is that he's one of "good guys" off the field, and never seems to have attitude (nor did he in his superstar days) on the field.

A change of scenery might put him in the "damn, son, you can still do that at your age?" category.

One Washington guy to keep on the radar is Brandon Lloyd. He was a bust this year on the Skins but he showed flashes of absolute brilliance in San Fran - he may get cut or could come dirt cheap in a trade. He would fit in nicely as a #2/#3 WR and he's got about as good of hands as I've seen.

Brandon Lloyd is a ******* punk.

"From the equipment people on up, he has alienated everyone in this building," said one high-ranking member of the organization. "He needs help at a level that goes beyond what a teammate or a coach can give him."

London Fletcher and Donnie Edwards along with the best WR they can find in FA and the draft. Belichick seems to like his LB's with some experience, drafting them does not seem to work.

Taking players from heated competitors has an added benefit so watch Edwards, June, Morris, Polk, and Fletcher closely. Freeney is a ridicously long shot (he'll likely be franchised anyway) but BB would and could find a home for him and June here while making the Colts panic about filling two very key slots.

The Bolts are all about LT and Merriman now, so working to weaken them wouldn't be as cost effective as helping to drain the talent pool on the Super Bowl Colts just as they think they are starting their own dynasty.

For those Cato June lovers:

Cato June was arrested on June 13, 2006 for failing to appear in court on a driving while suspended charge. June was released from the Boone County Jail on $500 bond and is awaiting trial. [1]

I odnt know why. Nothing jumps out and says well goddam.

Best fits?

You have to discuss Adalius Thomas. He plays the Willie McGinest role in Baltimore's 3-4 - big OLB, sets the corner vs the run, rushes the passer. He would be huge here, in a rotation like the McGinest-Vrabel-Colvin group, or enabling Vrabel to stay inside.

Don't know if Antwaan Peek would be good in the OLB rotation. He has played in a 3-4.

Obviously Donnie Edwards would help on the inside.

I think Kevin Curtis would be one of the best fits at WR. Small but quick, gets open, and very fast, could stretch the field. He can also return punts, which would help.

There's not an experienced wily veteran to replace Vinnie Testaverde available out there. The Pats will need a third QB at some point.

It would be nice to have a real back-up center. The Cowboys have two centers in free agency, and presumably will focus on Al Johnson. I don't know much about Andre Gurode, but he could probably compete with Mrooch for the back-up C/G spot.

DB is complex. The Pats have four fairly good ones in Harrison, Wilson, Sanders, and Hawkins, plus Tebucky and Mitchell coming back from IR for special teams, and I assume they will use at least one of their day one draft picks on a safety. And if Samuel comes back, the Pats have Samuel, Hobbs, Gay, and Scott, plus Spann or special teams and another of the day one picks, if things fall right. So bringing in a DB is tricky.

Thomas is going to cash in big time from someone his 27+ sacks in three years will jump out at someone. Unfortunately i doubt its us.

I dont like Peek or what i have seen of him for our olb rotation.

I still like Edwards but he cant be more than a one or two year slution tops.

Kevin Curtis i like a ton but others are down on him. I guess it depends on who you ask.

Heres my thing. Why not just resign Vinny and bring in an UDRFA? He's not going to play anyway.

DB and LB on this team is always tricky because Belichick tends to lean on someone who has experience in a similar system and in so tends to lean on veteran players.
