Great achievement but, like with what I said about Brees, I feel it's sad that two QBs eclipsed Marino's record in one season and kind of shows just how much this league has changed. I would have loved to have seen what Marino could have done in this day and age.

He's been beaten out by arguably one of the best of all time in Brady, in a league which benefits QBs and the passing game more than it ever has, and by a dome QB who played 3 of his away games (so 11 total when you include his home games) under a roof.

I wouldn't say it's a sad day to see it broken, but I would bring into question how much of an achievement it should be considered now compared to then. Not as much so in my eyes.Still a great one for both QBs however.

they still dont call this illegal touching pass 5 yards anywhere as much as they could and still let a lot of contact go both ways,,,even back in the day, guys like michael irvin and rice himself said receivers were allowed to give it back as good as they got it,so there wasnt any real advantage either way(rice would not have gotten 23 td's in 12 games if this so called exaggerated mugging took place).. so who knows how marino would have done,i always here ppl say there's a lot more exotic/disguised defenses in todays game then in the past . that dolphin team had a modern day philosophy cause they had a qb to take advantage of that type of play, theres just more marino type of talent today at the qb position so you see his type of numbers reached imho..

yes brees plays a ton of perfect weather dome games, but man he throws a beautiful ball.tight, quick release, accurate as hell and quick decision making ect .. marino also played 8 games in miami weather every year,,i dont remember off hand, but didnt usually miami travel up east vs buf/n.e/new jersey jets earlier in the season back then when the weather was still nice? i could be off on that, but for some reason that sticks in my mind... anyways, marino back than was one of a kind, theres just more marinos now(ones that that dont throw as many picks either)

As I'm not old enough to remember Marino's record season I actually took a look, and you're correct. Whilst I do agree it's still advantageous to play in Miami, you're still open to the elements. Wind, rain and even heat can cause issues...in an artificial atmosphere in a dome (and in future modern domes which can create the perfect playing conditions) it's a massive advantage to playing outside regardless.

I agree with what you say with Brees also...he's such a talented player and I don't want to take his or Brady's achievements away from them because they are great no matter when they made the achievement and in whatever conditions...to throw for that many yards is unreal.

I kind of have the same attitude when comparing Brady and Montana as the GOAT....can we really compare QBs of this time to back then? They are the best of their eras, but I'm not so sure just how much you can compare them given the different style of leagues they played in.

Probably would of had 6000 (exaggeration) if he would of had a legit #1 wr

I don't think we can play that old card any more...not since Wes and Gronk and Hernandez.

it's amazing with Bress and Brady have done this year but Matthew Stafford also had 5000 yards Eli Manning end it the year 70 yards away from 5000 yards and if Aaron Rodgers would have played he would have hit 5000 yards and broke Brady's TD record,

todays NFL is made for QB's to put up big numbers

aaron rodgers actually had the highest ypa which in my opinion is more important than total yards

brady was 2nd among the big 3 qbs this year in ypa , brees 3rd

brees always has a crapton of attempts

The weather this year certainly helped a little. We kept having oddly unseasonal 50 degree Sundays in December instead of blizzards.

Great accomplishment all the same. congrats Brady!

Rodgers finished with 45 TDs. It's not exactly a slam dunk that he would have had 6 had he played.

Something like 5450

Brees also broke his old completion % record.

Dome QBs...

I would expect him to do that when 35% of his passes are dump offs to his RB that his standing still in open space not very far away...

Numbers are numbers are numbers....you can always say yeah but....yeah but dome, yeah but easy completions and on and on.

In the end, this number is phenomenal by our qb. We are truly lucky as a fanbase he is on our team.

Do you think all those short passes are that easy to complete? If they are, why isn't every team doing that all the time? Brees is a HIGHLY accurate quarterback, no matter what distance he's throwing. Dude completed 53.3% of his passes thrown 31-40 yards downfield this season. That's amazing. For comparison's sake, the incomparable Tom Brady was 0-8 throwing that distance. Matthew Stafford? 5-17 (29.4%). Eli Manning? 6-21 (28.6%). Philip Rivers? 6-20 (30.0%). Matt Ryan? 3-16 (18.8%). Only Aaron Rodgers was better (7-11, 63.6%). Even Peyton Manning, in his last year (2010), only went 8-24 (33.3%).

In other words, Drew Brees is incredibly accurate. Period. Their offense calls for a lot of short passes. Great. It works for them. If they aired it out more downfield, Brees would still complete more of them than almost anybody else.
