Great achievement but, like with what I said about Brees, I feel it's sad that two QBs eclipsed Marino's record in one season and kind of shows just how much this league has changed. I would have loved to have seen what Marino could have done in this day and age.
He's been beaten out by arguably one of the best of all time in Brady, in a league which benefits QBs and the passing game more than it ever has, and by a dome QB who played 3 of his away games (so 11 total when you include his home games) under a roof.
I wouldn't say it's a sad day to see it broken, but I would bring into question how much of an achievement it should be considered now compared to then. Not as much so in my eyes.Still a great one for both QBs however.
they still dont call this illegal touching pass 5 yards anywhere as much as they could and still let a lot of contact go both ways,,,even back in the day, guys like michael irvin and rice himself said receivers were allowed to give it back as good as they got it,so there wasnt any real advantage either way(rice would not have gotten 23 td's in 12 games if this so called exaggerated mugging took place).. so who knows how marino would have done,i always here ppl say there's a lot more exotic/disguised defenses in todays game then in the past . that dolphin team had a modern day philosophy cause they had a qb to take advantage of that type of play, theres just more marino type of talent today at the qb position so you see his type of numbers reached imho..
yes brees plays a ton of perfect weather dome games, but man he throws a beautiful ball.tight, quick release, accurate as hell and quick decision making ect .. marino also played 8 games in miami weather every year,,i dont remember off hand, but didnt usually miami travel up east vs buf/n.e/new jersey jets earlier in the season back then when the weather was still nice? i could be off on that, but for some reason that sticks in my mind... anyways, marino back than was one of a kind, theres just more marinos now(ones that that dont throw as many picks either)
