Congrats Brees!

Brees is my favorite non-Pats player. If the Pats don't make it to the SB wouldn't mind seeing the Saints win it all.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous, but I've noticed that it's happening on both sides. I've never in my life seen so many flags thrown for offensive pass interference either. If the receiver even so much as tries to get the defender off him with a push it's called.

this has been the case for the past like 6 years, why only this year is the record broken?

i remember in 08, brees was a drop away from getting the record then too, but no other QB (until now w/ Brady) has really sniffed it since marino

That's what I thought this morning! I can see them beating the Packers, it's just down to the 49ers D slowing Brees down!

gb can as well ( and has already )

never know which saints will show up in the playoffs

Brady - 0 dome games.
Rodgers - 3 dome games.
Brees - 11 dome games.

Congrats Drew Brees...

The Saints are my second favorite NFL team.. the passion of their fans is super contagious..

Yeah but so is Peyton Manning arguably better than Brees and in his prime he never even sniffed 5000+

Yards are useless as a barometer of a QB. This is a silly record. Rodgers' season is far more impressive than Brees's, and Brees is a notch below Manning in his prime.

That and the rules on pass interference have changed significantly..

I agree + he does play in a dome. Watching Bree's his thrown balls just don't seem to have the zip that a Rodgers or a Brady has.. his throws look similar to Mannings but not quite as crisp. He is hella accurate though.. he can drop a high arching bomb right on the money which is impressive. I just think the way he throws.. being out in the elemants he would not be quite as impressive.

I think its a substantial record I was just kind of shocked at how big of a deal it was on TV.. I don't remember that kind of hysteria when Brady broke the single season TD record. But maybe they just want to pump up Drew Bree's.. if it was Brady I bet people wouldn't even care that much. ho hum

oh dear god, heres where everything shifts to the worst, lol

Love to see records, especially smug Dolphins records broken. Congrats to Brees and thanks again to the Dolphins brain trust (sic) for passing (heh) on him when SD was unloading the guy.

Geaux Saints!

Congrats indeed......INCREDIBLE achievement by a classy individual. Also glad to see any record held by an arrogant A hole get broken........
On Breaking Dan Marino's most passing yards record. And way to credit your teammates for it. Very classy. I'm guessing Marino didn't credit his teammates when he got the record.

Now if only TFB would get 600 yards against the Bills and beat both Marino and Brees :singing:

It is certainly a terrific accomplishment by Brees to break a 27 year old record. He's a great player on his way to the HOF. He will and probably should be runner up to Rodgers for MVP although you can make a strong argument for 3 guys this year. This isn't 2009 when he was far and away the best player in the game only to be robbed by the Peyton Manning lovers in the media.

That said, it is hard to ignore how ridiculously easy it has become to pass in this league. In the entire history of the NFL, there had been 2 5,000 yard passing seasons and in 2011 there are likely going to be 2. There could potentially 4 if Rodgers throws for 350 and Eli throws for 415 this week - unlikely but possible. It is almost certain that a week from now 4 of the 6 best passing seasons in history will have been in 2011.

Don't like the saints but congrats to brees. Now let's hope Carolina shuts him down and Brady can steal the record.

Makes you wonder though...how would've the chargers fared during the last decade had they put their trust into Brees and spending that high pick on some other player like Fitzgerald perhaps.

welcome to saintsfans.com

but no really, I like Brees. But lets not go crazy here. You cant even play D anymore.

I will throw my congrats into the ring for Brees. Good to see Marino's record broken. I just don't see Brady catching up unless the Saints sit Brees knowing the likelihood of them getting a bye is nil with the 49ers playing the Rams who are now in the driver seat to get the Andrew Luck pick (which they could trade for a king's randsom).

The good news about last night's game is that Jimmy Graham didn't catch up to Rob Gronkowski in the race for the single season yardage record for a TE. Gronk still has a chance to have the best year ever for a TE with both the yardage and TD record.

If it were Brady we'd be hearing how classless it was to be running plays out of the shotgun up 3 scores in the 4th quarter just to get the record. Then we'd hear that the celebration was classless, I mean god help us if Ladanian Tomlinson were on the other team in that scenario.

That said I'm happy to see Brees get that record. Although living here the fans since 2009 can make me tired of the Saints (really the only place outside of our main rivals cities that someone makes a big deal out of me wearing a Pats jersey) I do consider them a second favorite team and I'm really happy that all of Marino's records are getting broken.

I don't see, as a fan of the NFL and not just the Patriots, how it's good this record has been broken. I don't know really just how much of an achievement you can tally it up to compared to when Marino did it.

I've often argued it's hard to compare an achievement in today's league, to one 20-30 years ago. Different type of league. I'm not saying it's bad how the league is now, the league constantly evolves in the way the game is played and it will change again in most of our life times. However, am I happy a QB who play 8 of his games in a dome, and had the luxury of playing another game against Atlanta in a dome, a game against the Rams, a game against the Vikings.

When you look at it, and weigh up what kind of league we are in, with a lot of defenses struggling this season out of the lockout, then combine that with the fact he's playing 11 of his games in a dome with no weather elemens to worry about...I'm just not so sure I can call it as great an achievement as what Marino managed. In fact, I would have loved to have seen what Marino could do in his prime, in this type of game...a hell of a lot better!

Okay I understand that Marino played 8 games in Miami, and most of the year he has decent weather at least to play in, especially in September/part of October, but he was still open to the elements... not only that, he had to play New England, New York and Buffalo at their place...they were always open to adverse weather conditions.

But don't get me wrong, really happy for Brees and it is still an achievement...I just question how much we can really compare it to the achievement that Marino made back in 1984!

Then combine it with the fact Brady would surpass Marino with a couple of hundred yards on Sunday as well...it just makes it even less of an achievement for Brees inn my eyes.

It's impressive, I mean he almost did it a few years ago and frankly would have had it if the receiver ran the right route.

That said the Saints offense passes a ton, and a lot of those passes are dump offs to the backs which then open it up for the bombs. Brees is deadly accurate on those deep balls because defenses have to respect the dump offs to Sproles, Thomas, etc. Sproles is their second leading receiver and Thomas is fifth, they have over 1000 yards between the 2 of them, the Patriots arent even close to that. Thats not a knock on them, I wish the Pats would utilize the screen more, but it defnitely inflates the yards especially with a back like Sproles.
