Transcript of press conference hot off the wires.

Reporter: Can you give us an update on Wes Welker's condition?
BB: Sure. Yes, I can.
Reporter: OK, what is his condition?
BB: You mean, Welker's condition?
Reporter: Yeah.
BB: Oh, he's fine. Day to day.
Reporter: The reports are that the hit he took to the neck was pretty serious.
BB: Well, I haven't seen the game film yet. We'll know more when we do.
Reporter: Will he be able to practice with the team?
BB: That's up to the training staff.
Reporter: But, we're not allowed to talk to the trainers.
BB: I'll have to get back to you on that.
Reporter: What would Welker's absence mean to the team?
BB: Everybody will still be out there every day, working hard, practicing, trying to get better.
Reporter: Does that mean, his absence won't affect how you plan for Miami?
BB: I just coach the players I have to coach. That's all I can do.
Reporter: When will you have more information for us on Welker?
BB: Well, you can always check the injury report.
Reporter: But that won't come out until the week before opening day.
BB: Yeah, I guess so. We just do what the league tells us.
Reporter: [runs screaming from room]

LMAO, well done!

Reporter: Can you tell us what happened with Welker's neck injury?

BB: I'd be happy to. It happened with about 2:43 left in the second quarter. Wes was running a 7-yard curl-in at the sticks and got hit simultaneously by No. 23 and No. 34. No. 23 hit him low on the left hip and No. 34 hit him high in the shoulder area. As he was driven to the ground, Wes's neck hit the turf at a 45-degree angle as both defenders landed on him. My guess -- and it's only a guess at this stage, pending more information from team doctors -- is that Wes suffered a unilateral sub-straterial displacement of the second vertebrae, which then spontaneously shifted back into place. This is very similar to the injury that kept Tedy Bruschi out for a two-week period of time in 2002. I plan on attending Welker's medical evaluation Monday morning and will give you more details at that time. Before leaving, everyone please make sure to pass along both your work and home telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses, so all media outlets are covered. I don't want anyone to feel slighted or left out."

Reporter (waking up from his dream): Huh?! What?!

Now, now. Play fair. The guy wrote a thoughtful post here because he can't do the same at Jets Insider Dot Com. I tend to agree if this is serious. Welker should put his long-term health first on the list and if the doctors say he can play, he should play. Think about the Bruschi situation and how we all held our breath when he came back after the stroke.
Do you really think a Jets' fan is genuinely concerned about Welker's well-being? If so, I've got a bridge you may be interested in buying and, if not, how about the water that runs under it???

Yeah, thanks for the sympathy. If he were cut, you'd be one of the first ones salivating over the prospect of the Jets signing him. Go away. No one wants you here.

What? Welker is a helluva football player. He's got some good ball left in him too. But as a guy who knows about back and neck injuries, and has even had back surgery himself, I think he could be one of those guys who winds up yaking one-shot-too-many due his heart. He's like Wayne Chrebet was for the Jets. We all loved his guts and drive. Nobody wanted him to retire. Now he has double vision, headaches and wild mood swings and will suffer post-concussive syndrome for the rest of his life. Make no mistake, I wasn't offering the Pats my sympathy. I'm a rival fan. I was commenting on Welker taking blows to the head. If you want me to go away, you'll have to say the magic words.

Are you a physician? Do you have access to Welker's MRIs, CAT scans, X-rays and other medical records? Comparing Wayne Chrebet, a fine player, to Wes Welker is like comparing Sanchez to Brady. You're entitled to your opinion, but don't come here offering medical diagnoses and prescriptions. You sound foolish. Take it from someone who knows something about sounding foolish, as I have myself done on more than one occasion. If you can't see how lame all of this is, then nobody will be able to help you. I may have been a bit harsh on you earlier and, for that, I apologize, but please leave the medical assessments to the professionals in that area. You aren't one.

You're damn right he's concerned about Wes Welker's well-being. Welker being out changes the face of the Patriots.

Oh, and if YOU have a bridge, how did you come by it? Did you buy it from it's owner and did you get a deed to go along with your bridge? I don't need a bridge but worry that you may have been taken.

Like now?

Why so defensive, he may very well be a Doctor?

And to the one poster making the Chrebet comparison, exactly right, Welker is in that same mode, a fan favorite, the team mascot if you will because he works so hard but doesn't have the physical attributes of the diva WR's in the league, but produces, we all love that kind of player, unfortunately, their shelf life is not very long in the NFL.

If you took the time to read the entire thread you'd be less defensive yourself and know that she or he already revealed she or he's a cop and an EMT, both noble professions, but neither is a physician. And Wes Welker has multiple physical attributes that very few receivers, divas or otherwise, possess.

No doubt. But you're not the typical opposing-team's-fan.

I made a comment on the health of a human being. When it comes to people getting hurt and playing a game that can ultimately maim them for life--I really don't take their uniform color into consideration. That is ultimately childish. This is a game. We watch the game and yell hooray for the team we like and the players we admire because we can't play it ourselves. To think that There's some agenda behind my stating that an undersized WR with a concussion history, neck injury and a tendency to get blasted by LB's and safeties, could be at risk for serious damage is shallow and rediculous. I like the Welker the palyer, not the team he plays for. I'd hate to see him wind up like chrebet otr ray lucas or mike webster. That's all.

If he can make it through the ACL injury, he will find a way to work through his neck injury. I am sure there will be some discomfort at first, but I think he will figure this thing out. This could mean Brady will be putting the ball more in the hands of Hernandez and Gronkowski this season. Every quarterback likes to find their security blankets.
