Welker Suffers Neck Injury Saturday Night
    By: Ian Logue

The Patriots have seen their fair share of guys get banged up this preseason, however they suffered quite a setback during their game against the Lions Saturday night....

It really looks like one of those things that can turn out to be worse than it actually looked when he sustained it. I really hope I'm way wrong about it. We need that tough S.O.B. on the field.

It looked like his neck was compressed on that hit which is better than it being twisted. The done was designed to compress so hopefully it's nothing more than a neck stinger.

    Reiss just tweeted

Good catch, Mike. RT: @MikeGiardi: Julian Edelman left the sidelines. Docs were working on his hand and/or finger #Patriots

So Edelman got hurt as well?

Welker was the only receiver that did anything with Brady at the helm. Including tackling players after his ints

FYI Karen Guregian of the Herald Tweeted that she talked to him as he was heading out to get on the team bus, and he told her he 'was o.k.'. Hopefully it's not too serious.

My guess it was nothing, but the Pats would keep him in the lockerroom in a preseason game.

I'm no doctor, but if it was bad enough, logic dictates he wouldn't be able to fly back to Boston and would need to stay at a hospital.

Manning can't play, and I'm pretty sure he can fly. If Welker was put in the hospital it would be very severe.

In the long term, Welkers body has been breaking down over the past few years, I am afraid that Welker will not get big money to stay here. For this year, one more vintage year please.

Stinger was my first thought. Smart like an SOB for several minutes. Can take a day or two for the tingling to wear off. Wes is such a GD football player. Blocks, tackles, bails his QB out, runs great routes, never gives up... Anyone here who thinks Bill won't keep this guy around as long as he did Bingo is nucking futs... Edleman has a little bit of Welker in him, just not quite as proficient or durable. When he gets dinged it's usually something broken... But he will be around awhile too because of his quicks and his never quit attitude and his ability to back up Welker.

What exactly does that have to do with our O line performance? Last time the O line has molested like this, I didn't see Moss light the World against the Giants and Ravens in the playoffs.

????? Manning didn't injure his neck in a game. He had elective surgery that was done after batteries of tests. The surgery was done in a hospital and monitoried, and I disagree that he flew within an hour or two of his surgery. I'm pretty sure that would not have been done.

Welker, on the other hand, got hurt during a game. If there was any chance of his injury being severe, he would be in a hospital having it checked out, not walking to the team bus to head for the airport.

I feel the same way about traveling back with the team vs. getting checked out in Detroit.
And what else do Patriots players say to the media? Other than "I'm okay"

What is title of this thread?
I'm referring to Welker's injury if it's fatal & not sold on Tate's play.
As for Moss I didn't say it would be good or bad to have him back but that if Pats wanted to add another receiver Moss comes to mind with back n forth Pats.

Lol It has nothing to do with the O.line because it wasn't meant to have anything to with the O.line. I'm really confused by your comment....

He walked off slowly. It wasn't even obvious enough to draw a comment from the announcers, but it was definitely slow.

Aside from being a Jets fan, I'm a cop and an EMT...seen my share of neck injuries. Especially in car accidents. Thing about it is, there really is no way of doing an immediate observation and diagnosis. The spinal chord, particularly in the first (c1 thru c5) cervical vertebrae, is a tangle of nerves, discs, bones, meninges and spinal fluid. Multiple injuries to the neck lead to bulging discs and pinched/damaged nerves, and a wearing of the nerves outer sheath which can be outrageously painful. Welker has been a helluva player. But if I were him, I start thinking about a job outside of football. Chrebet had to do it, al Toon, Troy Aikman...it's just not worth risking one's life, or quality of life, after a while. He's been concussed too many times as it is. I wish him a full and speedy recovery, but it seems like he's becoming one of those oft-injured players that are all guts and heart, but are deteriorating before our eyes.

Geez, don't step over his drop in production last year, and his drops. You think he was 100% in 2010 compared to 2007-2009?

Also in the playoffs since the Giants SB, he's only appeared in one game - last years Jets game (in which he was pretty good: 7 for 57)

    Y/G

    2007: 73.4
    2008: 72.8
    2009: 96.3
    2010: 56.5

He's 30.5 years old with 108 games played - at 5' 9" 190 lbs; he's got less time in front of him then behind him. BB is very careful about doling money/years out to older players. BB will be happy to get 75+ catches a year out of Welker until 2020 if its in him, but Welker is never going to score some 3+ year deal front loaded with lots of bonus money here.
