Reality Arriving...

Why argue with them? Anyone who thinks Plaxico is an upgrade over Edwards is nuts! I'm beginning to believe that Jets fans in general just don't know football. They just make things up. And when you think about it, why would ANY knowledgeable fan follow a team that hasn't done anything for 42 years?

In fairness, Plaxico COULD be an upgrade to Edwards, but it is impossible to say that right now. If Plax can stay healthy and return to his 2007 form, then he would be an upgrade. That is a big if. Many Jets fans think it is a proven fact.

I guess that's where the disconnect is. I find that the Pats moving the ball against the Jets in the 1st quarter of a 4 quarter game to be irrelevant to anything, in reference especially to a game the Pats lost.

It's irrelevant to what's happening with hurricane Irene. It was obviously not irrelevant in the context of the discussion at hand. Either you know this and are trolling/lying, or I'm giving you way too much credit about your brainpower.

Call me nuts. Braylon drops too many balls. Plax is a significant upgrade, expecially in the red zone.

Those losses are recent. Their Super Bowl rings are not.

Define "recent".

We still have current players from those Super Bowls.

How 'bout your team?

First Jets fan post in the thread:

There's no irony here. The Jets fan peed in the punch bowl.

Yet you felt the need to ask the same nonsensical question about the QB position when it had nothing to do with the OP.

We'll keep judging, thanks. So the lesson: don't misapply abused biblical passages. ;)

Bible? I totally made that up on the spot myself. I will be suing Jesus for Plagiarism.

As an aside, I much prefer an open style message board to a highly moderated one, as a rule. That's not the issue with JI. The issue is the inability of the posters there to make it through consecutive posts without using words which question the sexuality of others, or to make a post with 'salty' language about the intellect of another poster without making a bunch of mistakes in their own posts.

I don't post on JI anymore, its been a few years since I was active there. that being said, that particular board has a gigantic following and policing a community that large is no easy task. Fact is, JI, as any other baord, has members that are outspoken and ill-informed, and they only seem the majority because they make the most noise. I'm sure their membership could be better, but that's their business. I choose to post elswhere for my own reasons. And that's anyone's prerogative.

There are idiots everywhere. There are scumbags everywhere. J.I. just has them as a seemingly overwhelming majority. It's a toilet of a website, and the owner should fire all his mods, clear out all the members, re-start registration, and either impose some level of intellectual litmus test or ban the use of the typical crutch words until the new/returning posters demonstrate an ability to make rational posts consistently and without the need to fall back on some derivative of "You love sleeping with your own sex!" every single time.

Gay jokes can be funny. So long as they aren't mean-spirited. Same goes for fat jokes, racial jokes, gender jokes, ethnic jokes, etc. It's about the audience and the delivery. I agree they can cross the line. but That's why I don't engage in it. Better safe than sorry. Still, loosen up a little. This is entertainment and discussion, after all. I'd bet if you met some of those guys in a bar and left football out of it, you might actually enjoy a few new friends.

I tried recently at JI to start some decent football talk -- roster analysis, etc. -- and was excoriated: "Go back to patsfags.com!" "GFY troll!" "F*ck you!" "Dumbass!" etc., etc. They just aren't interested in hearing perspective from opposing fans. About anything. But what's worse is the whole "perception of reality" you allude to. They genuinely believe because of the playoff win last season that they have overtaken the Patriots, that the Pats are "desperate" with their recent signings and are on the decline.

Now, I'm well known around here for bashing the Green Beans but I try to have fun with it and limit it to our infamous Jest Suck thread, not when REAL football talk is happening that we can hopefully learn something from. On the other hand, the sheer vitriol at JI is serious. I posted about the nasty language they use and a mod responded by telling me to man-up. So there you have it.

Solid post. I surfed around Jets Insider and was stunned by the lack of sophistication there. Objectively, the Jets are a top 5 AFC team with fascinating characters, a terrific head coach, and a history with the Patriots and Parcells and the early days of the Super Bowl that deserves better.

The Browns message board Barking Hard, which one would think would be a downer deluxe is quite good with some old timers who really get it. The moderators at the Jets Board need to go. That could be a great Board with a little effort.

Big ups to the PatsFans.com moderators.

...well...as recently as 42 years ago, we, the mighty Jets, were playing in a Super Bowl...seems just like yesterday, doesn't it?...

You should post more.

============================================

I just don't want to get into a pissing match, my brethren trolls are doing fine with out me.

I would like to think I live in the real world. (response to OP)

I freely admit I am a homer, the poster here have there opinions and I have mine. I think the Jets and Pats are fairly close in talent, reasonably close in coaching, or at least as close as any time since BB bailed on the Jets.

The Jets will have a top 5 D yet ultimately there fate will hinge on Sanchez.

The Pats will have a top 5 O yet ultimately there fate will hinge on Brady.

As far as who has the best right tackle or best safety, it doesn't matter.

May the best team win, Can't wait.

Stay dry and keep your waders close.:)

Not a huge Edwards fan, but he was only credited with one dropped ball last season. I think last year was a fluke year, but Plax is replacing that Edwards, not what Edwards is going to bring this year. I cannot say Plax is an upgrade, downgrade, or even lateral move until we see him in real game situations and hold up over the course of the season. His age and long layoff is going to affect his durability, speed, physicality, and cutting abilities. The question is how much and whether if some of these declines are temporary until he gets into football shape or degrade over time. That is the question no one knows right now.

Plaxico could be a big upgrade over Edwards, but there is no way I would bet a dime on that at this point.

Wrong again. Moving the ball "at will", as you call it, during the 1st quarter of that playoff game is A) irrelevant to that game because they didn't muster anything more than 3 points and had zero effect on the final score B) irrelevant to anything pertaining to this year's teams and season.

But I should stop arguing with someone that feels that the Pats were killing the Jets in that game.

what am I ...a spoonbill crane?

that's rich...coming from "it rains 320 days a year up here in Sasquatch County!!"...:violent:

I've got no problem with jokes of pretty much any sort. I follow a time/place rule only. There are certain times and places where a joke is 'uncool' (holocaust jokes at the funeral of a holocaust survivor, etc...), but I'm generally alright with anything given that one disclaimer.

That's not what I'm talking about here, though. Every post doesn't need to include slurs, of any particular kind. It's possible, and much to be desired, to have football conversation without that.

You're a pretty smart guy, despite what they say about you at JI. ;)

I agree about Burris. That guy is a monster at 6'5" 230 lbs. Edwards was a head case who was inconsistent. Plax could be great but my guess is he's slower and is such a huge target that he gets croaked by a safety or linebacker. I'd be surprised if he gets through 8 games without getting seriously hurt.

Or he'll shoot himself. Again.

Two years in the slammer away from the speed and hitting of the NFL is not a good thing.

The Patriots ability to move the ball was a response to an earlier post. I'm sorry you're not capable of following an entire thread. I'll post more slowly for you, with even smaller words and bigger type, in the future.

As for the Pats moving the ball, etc...

Jets vs. Pats - 2011 Divisional Playoffs - Page 11 - TheGangGreen.com Message Board

Jets fans seem to have noticed it during the first part of the game.

Now run along and let the adults talk, since you can't seem to get past the trolling.

I think the issue here is you, to be honest. I haven't insulted your intelligence or tried to belittle you in any way, yet that's all you seem to resort to. In fact, out of the 4 or so discussions I've been in regarding this thread, you are the only person to act this way.

I'll chalk you up as the anomaly and just put you on ignore then.

Well, that post most assuredly would have gotten me "homer clown" response.

You made a troll post, and now you're pouty about the responses. Yes, please feel free to use the ignore button. I'll do the same.
