Indy has the reigning world champs on the docket this week in the all important PS week 3... Gonna be a bloodbath. Sorgi was always about as pedestrian as it comes for a backup, but the current crew (Painter and Orlofsky) are beyond worthless. You cannot make anything work or work on anything with that level of QB play mucking up the works. They should have gone after the kid I hoped we would had Mallett not fallen into Bill's lap, McElroy. If he can handle playing behind Sanchize in Shotty's offense out of the gate as an UDFA he would have given Indy a shot at functionality at the position. I honestly don't think Polian has a clue when it comes to evaluating QB's unless they are rated #1. Unfortunately for him until or unless the $90M man misses an entire season he ain't gonna have another shot at one of those.

Suprised they passed on Mallett and haven't really addressed the backup QB position at all, considering they knew Manning was going to have neck surgery. 3 things. Either your right and Polian is naive enough to think Peyton is going to play forever, they really like Painter or they simply have no clue how to evaluate a QB in the later rounds. Personally I think Polian jets on this franchise first good job offer he gets before it goes down the tubes in Indy.

Not trying to get into anybody's head but it does seem that everything in Indy revolves around Peyton, duh. Would they have dared draft his successor without clearing with him, especially since he was going to be a free agent? Was it going to be another Brett Favre-Aaron Rodgers ( "don't expect me to teach him" or something like that situation) or maybe they just wanted to pretend it wouldn't need to be addressed for a few years since he was Favre-like in his longevity.

Greg "throw 10 yards past the LOS" McElroy?

I'm on my mobile right now, and I don't have enough posts to start a new thread, but on my yahoo sports news feed it was reported that Irsay just tweeted specifically that he is in Favre's hometown. Oh please make this happen. I would love to see Favre tear them down.

The Colts run a system that relies on pre-snap reads, about 2 reads post snap and an emphasis on pure timing routes. Favre isn't big on any of that.

He most certainly is not, which is all the more I would love for them to make that move. It would be great to see Wayne take an in cut 8 yards in only to watch the ball sail 20 yards past him to the sideline.

Re: I hope Manning doesnt have to miss any time

Only so many years of this all time great rivalry left. I would hate it the Colts lost a competitive season because of this.

Thoughts?
Why would you hate the Colts having a bad season?

He's just as adept as Peyton Manning when it comes to throwing interceptions in the playoffs.

I just can't believe the Colts would be that foolish.

I can.

I'm going to be needing an industrial size popper for all the popcorn I'm gonna need watching the battle of the gargantuan egos under the Oil Can Dome.

Manning & Favre on the same team? Are you kidding me? That is soap opera GOLD! This is the sort of matchup/fight that Pay-Per-View was made for!

Jeebus versus Sayton. Fight to the death! SI Writers bleed to death from paper cuts trying to keep up with this. 24/7 NFLN & FESPN coverage! Borges & Felger drooling down their shirts.

Bring it on! PLEASE!

A cat fight between the NFL's reigning drama queens. What isn't to like? :rocker:

IMO the Colts have already been that foolish, by failing to develop any kind of backup to a 35-year-old QB with nagging injuries. It's as if they decided years ago that if Manning went down, they'd just give up.

For all that Pats fans have whined about selections like Kevin O'Connell, I'm very glad they take the backup QB position seriously. In the 13 drafts since Manning was selected, the Colts have invested a total of 2 6th-round picks on quarterbacks.

Can we agree that J Isray is a moron? Thank goodness we have the Kraft family for the owners of our team.

Colts don't have that bad of a team, if they had even an average backup they could do ok, granted they wouldn't be title contenders but they could pull out 7-9 wins. Although Caldwell isn't the best coach. I think with Dungy and Sorgi they probably could of pulled off a matt cassel kinda year like pats had in 08. Anyways, Painter is just awful. Any game he starts you can add a number in the loss column. Maybe pursue Kerry Collins to come out of retirement?

You think someone should tell him how twitter works before he says something he is really going to regret? NAAAAAAAH!!!

I didn't realize it was that little.

But, if anything, "Colts – Manning = teh suck" would be a massive indictment of their inability to develop even one competent backup to Manning, let alone the two (or arguably three) the Patriots have found in the last six years.

Kind of makes you wonder about the whole process of developing qb's. Who do we thank for Brian Hoyer's surprising development? How big a role does Brady play in mentoring young qb's? And who is most responsible for the Colts' never turning a late pick or UDFA into a Cassel or Hoyer?

The Dolts would've been a double-digit loss team the past 5 years (incl. their nauseating SB season)
had PayaTon been IRed for any of those years. Their defense is completely predicated on playing indoors, with a lead. Their running game has been crap since Edgerrin James left, and as MoLewis & others have noted, their garbage QBs would never have been able to get their good recievers the ball.
