Any kind of neck surgery to repair a nerve is no joke. I wish Peyton Manning the speediest of recoveries. Hoping he will be on the field week 1 regardless of my disdain for him and the Colts.

Find it very weird they would allow these tweets to be viewed. Something doesn't seem right here.

Irsay needs to lay off MyFace....social media is not good for the lockerroom.

    bu

Not a buffoon" Rod. Indy has been too good for too long to call him that. OTOH he is easily the most detestable FO personality in the league. LOTS of reasons to hate the guy, but you have to admire what he's accomplished in Indy.

That being said. I think they are in trouble this season and on into the near future...and its not about Peyton. they have had some bad drafts recently. Freeney, Wayne, etc are all getting older, and unlike the Pats they haven't been as successful in bringing in the next wave.of players to support Manning in his dotage. Not only that, the Colts have held sway over a division that has been historically weak outside of them. I think the rest of the division is starting to catch up.

Doesn't Irsay pay people to make those decisions for him? I think he's just attention whoring right now.

He was smart enough to hire Bill Polian and then get out of the way.. or was it his father who hired him?

Agreed but this was Manning's second neck surgery in 15 months.

Indianapolis Colts' Peyton Manning underwent 2nd surgery on neck - ESPN

At some point you have to consider life post-football and much like multiple concussions with Troy Aikman, is it time to walk away? I'm not suggesting that, but a bum knee is one thing, an injury that affects the neck or above is a different situation.

I envision the Colts doing a 49ers-like swan dive after Peyton retires and then the cap implications catch up to them as well as lack of transition planning as you mentioned.

Good thing they just gave him that big extension. Basically they're at a point right now where they're dealing with 2 neck surgeries which is not something you want to screw around with and they have to either activate Manning before game 1 or lose him for the first 6. Should be interesting to watch unfold unless this is just Irsay trolling the media.

He's had Bill Polian and Peyton Manning, that's why they've been successful.

Everything this guy has ever said just screams "buffoon".

re: OT: Jim Irsay with a cryptic tweet(merged)

A couple months back I took a lot of flak for commenting about Indy may be considering trading Manning and starting the rebuild right now. I mentioned his neck injury, how it seemed to bother him the last half of last season, and how they are potentially going to be having some serious protection issues with their O-line.

Now perhaps it looks like that whole neck injury situation may be coming home to bite them big time. If Manning can't start, especially for several weeks, then dumping all that money into him doesn't make a whole bunch of sense.

I still say that, considering the weaknesses they have on both the O-line and the D-line, that it would have made better business sense to trade Manning and use the money he took up to start the rebuild NOW. Indy is going to have to do that. They need a LOT of fresh faces in there, and the longer they put it off, the more financial problems they are going to have to deal with.

I wish Manning luck in healing from his injuries. He's a gifted QB and football player, and any fan ought to be able to recognize that and give credit where it's due. If he never won another game, I wouldn't shed a tear, but I respect what he has done for Indy & for football.

Possibly burying the Colts before their time but they don't concern me as much as they did earlier in Peyton's career. As long as he can take the field and play the team has an excellent shot to win but the pieces around him are not top flite quality. Teams that do concern me are SD with Rivers, Baltimore if Flaccid stops deteriorating and improves, the Jets simply because we wilt like schoolgirls when they get the upper hand in a game and of course the Lombardi champs at GB whose backup nearly beat the 14-2 2010 Pats.

Well stated Taking Flak is commonplace when Calciume and Nordic Roam free.

I agree w/ your assessment Gwedd. People say Peyton is the team. I agree w/ that and imo it would behoove the Colts to prepare for LAP (Life After Peyton) imagine the 1's 2's and 3's in a package for Peyton? They need a huge makeover

No no no; Synder is the most detestable personality. In a league full of detestable personalities Synder is head shoulder above the rest for execrable behavior.

Agreed. The Colts may well take their division again, but I think it will be more of a dog fight this year than in years past.

My point about the Colts was that, looking at the risks, it made more financial sense to spend the money they would give to Manning on other needs in their club, and then look for a replacement QB. If you have a solid O-line and a good stable of backs, TE's and receivers, then a journeyman QB can still win games while the team grooms a new franchise QB.

Why in the heck is he tweeting this? What possible interest could that serve, except to let everyone know Manning is still hurting. Maybe I'm just too used to how they do things in Foxboro.

I know. Up here, anytime Coach or the FO says something, it's a special event. We are so used to guessing and wondering and speculating about things and players that we forget how other teams operate. :)

What was most bizzare about the Colts last night against Wash was that they sat the starting receivers. If Painter was taking the starting reps in practice this week, who was he throwing to? Even if Peyton is able to come back for the first regular season game, why wouldn't they wan't to give Painter as much time as possible to get the timing with the starting receivers should he be needed in a real game anyway?

Did Polian think until last night that should it happen, Painter was good enough to QB the Colts for the start of the regular season until Peyton is ready, and only now think it might be time to get another backup? The Colts could easily start 0-4.
