OT: The Official Stanley Cup Finals Game 7 thread

Problem is I just paid $180 for an authentic Shane Doan jersey from the PHOENIX Coyotes in mid season :bricks:

Atlanta is going to Winnipeg.....what are you worried about?

You know what the scary thing is?

The Bruins may be back on the ice defending their title on NHL Opening Weekend in October BEFORE the Pats even play a game

When was that announced?

I don't know but the Coyotes belong in Phoenix.....those fans down there have been through some lousy teams and now that they have a much improved team who made it to the playoffs 2 years in a row, they are in financial straits with NO owner but the NHL league at this time and MAY have to go SOMEWHERE else to find an owner.

You Bruins fans are lucky....great solid ownership for a very long time.

They're already in Winnipeg
Winnipeg's NHL team still has no name yet; MTS Center signs new deal - ESPN

Does Harry Lumley ring a bell??? :D

Looks like we started watching around the same timeframe.....I haven't nailed it down yet but it was late 50's or 1960 when I was a Jr in HS......

Couple old Fahts

( I'm guessing you were born in 1944- just a hunch LOL)

nah, born in 1950.....I remember Harry Lumley.I went to both of the Bruins/CCCP games at the Garden. The Russkies were an incredible team, made the broons look silly.Valery Kharlamov was the best I've ever seen......what a great hockey player.....drove his Porsche? into a wall at 120mph in 1981.My friend and I did Stoli's in his honor, when we heard the news.

Remember Yvan Cournoyer?,"The Roadrunner"
made today's players look like they were skating in mud. That's the difference between the old days and now....the speed.

Also,I don't care how long he played......Gretzsky couldn't carry Bobby Orr's jock......How soon they forget.:rocker:

I'm a good decade+ younger than you old-timers (meant respectfully!) but I do remember Cournoyer (CORN-why-eh). When Seguin had that breakaway goal against Tampa I told people that's who he reminded me of. Blank stares followed.

On old school vs today: I don't know, watching highlights from the '70s, the rink seems bigger than it is today, and I chalk that up to three things in ascending order: Bigger equipment today, bigger players today and overall much faster players today. Guys like Orr and Cournoyer were ahead of their peers, certainly, but the basic NHL athlete is mighty quick now.

.......because girls don't need no cup:rocker:

I give them credit for standing tall in defeat and facing the media. But I still do not understand how players this talented could not change to win. I guess they were so confident in their method of getting the puck in and then cycling to get space and shoot that they just could not see changing ... oh well. :D:D:D

Apparently the Sedins and the Canucks missed the memo from Patsfans scribes post SB42 - defense wins championships over sexy offense.

Excellent,BT........True story:When Canada was scheduled to play the CCCP team in their epic first battle,a year before the KGB smuggled out tapes of Bobby Orr's play......to devise some way of handling him. That's how much they feared and respected the "real" Great One.

Turned out,Bobby hurt his knee and didn't play....it would have been something to see:rocker:

Nothing like Russian hockey in the days of the cold war....their teams were "amateurs" ...LOL

They were recruited by military.... then they ate, slept, practiced and lived together 24/7.

All for the projection of Communism being the best ...

Now they come to the NFL for Capitalism and $$$$$$$$$$

Cant wait until the banner gets raised!

If there is one athlete that I am truly disappointed that I never got to see him play.....it's Bobby Orr.

I was one of the lucky ones. I was in jr. high when all the talk of this legend in the making from Parry Sound commenced and a HS freshman when he was called up. He was the most hyped player ever and he not only lived up to it, he exceeded it exponentially. In the days before expansion when men were men and in the NHL they could all skate and stick handle and fight, he made them look like tools. Kid could kill off a penalty single handedly just ragging the puck, it was almost more fun watching him on the ice short handed because there were fewer bodies in his way.

And he was the nicest, most humble, grounded kid you'd ever meet. Still is to this day. Apologies to Gretzky's legion of fans, but no one will ever convince me there was anyone truly in his league. 'Cause what an elite league it was in those days.

There have only been two athletes (or phenomenon for those who don't consider non humans athletes) in my lifetime that that have had that unforgettable quality where you know you will never see their like again. Bobby Orr was one. Secretariat was the other.

Thanks to Blue Thunder for posting that link. I watched in and a couple of others and what a jog down memory lane.

It was as if the official was saying, "I'm only going to let you hit him one more time....OK, once more, but that's it!"
