One observation on the decade of dominance by Boston Teams: One of my favorite pictures was one taken during the Celtics championship parade. It was a of a kid with his parents wearing a home made T shirt. It said "Nine Years Old....6 parades". I love that shot. It says it all.
BTW it was in the Globe IIRC, I think it would be great picture to share if some one with the know how could access it.
Reminiscence: I was a big hockey fan back in the late 60's early 70's.(in my early 20's) Never missed a game on Channel 38. Worked part time in bars where the Bruins hung out. I had to ask Cashman to leave a dozen times (a real nice guy even when drunk), shared baseball gloves with Sanderson in a summer bar softball league (he owned one...a bar, not the glove....the glove was mine
)
Well after we we watched the Bruins win the cup in St Louis, all my roommates made plans to go to Logan and meet the plane when they came back. I don't remember the time, except It was late and we were drunk. I don't know how we managed to get to the airport. At the time I had a cast on my ankle, recovering from a football injury. My last memory of that trip was getting on the down escalator (a long one) with my crutches and falling almost s-l-o-w- m-o-t-i-o-n all the way down. My friend thought I was dead....but I popped right up in a second and kept heading for the gate. No fool like a drunk fool. the next morning was another story. I ached in places I didn't even know I had.
Those were the days where it was the BRUINS who owned the town. The Celtics were unappreciated, the Red Sox weren't a cult, and the Pats were still looking for a place to plays. The Bruins were good, they were characters, and they were accessible. They literally were the reason about 20 public skating rinks were built in the Greater Boston area.
Its nice to see them have another shot at the Cup. I wish them luck....but if they win, I won't be going to the airport this time to see them land.
