Re: Please trade for Calvin Johnson

Hahaha, right dude? I think Evans would be one hell of player on the Patriots and is certainly a "Patriots type guy" from all accounts.

Not for $9M he's not. If he's willing to take a paycut. Who is these days. Then he could be. Otherwise not gonna happen with the way the Pats spend.

Re: Vincent Jackson on Revis Island

2008 - Week 3 ---> 3 rec for 73 yds including 60 yarder.
2009 - Div rd of Playoffs ---> 7 rec for 111 yds

We have the picks. I'm just saying....

Also, game by game playoff performances....
2006 vs Pats ---> 2 rec for 43 yds
2007 vs Ten ---> 5 rec for 114 yds and TD
2007 vs Ind ---> 7 rec for 93 yds and TD
2007 vs Pats ---> 6 rec for 93 yds
2008 vs Pitt ---> 2 rec for 49 yds and TD
2009 vs NYJ ---> 7 rec for 111 yds (vs Revis)

We have the picks, the money and the need. In all of this guy's interviews he seems to have his head on straight. He's just made a couple mistakes as a young man. The guy can play and he plays in big games.

I can tell you didn't watch the game.

Similar to every game last season, Revis allowed pretty much nothing the whole game.

However, Revis did get his interception while covering Jackson.

Just because a couple receivers had big days, doesn't mean it was while Revis was on him.

Re: Please trade for Calvin Johnson

Great idea. Let's trade for Chris Johnson, Demarcus Ware, Troy Polamalu, Darrelle Revis, and Joe Thomas too while we're at it.

Re: Vincent Jackson on Revis Island

For this board, Vincent Jackson is the NEW Julius Peppers.

Now im not saying i wouldnt want VJax on this team its just not likely IMHO, but if it happened i would be really happy!

We should try to get Adrian Peterson and Peyton Manning to be Brady's backup as well.

If I had the opportunity to secure an elite 29 year old flanker who plays his ass off, is a high character guy, and a legit leader, I would certainly think he's worth franchise tag money.

Re: Please trade for Calvin Johnson

I don't really mind Evans. But it better be for like a 6th and he needs to take a serious paycut.
From 9M -> 3M ok I'd do it.
He has been incredibly inconsistent in Buffalo but is getting paid like the Reggie Waynes of the NFL.

Re: Vincent Jackson on Revis Island

Yeah. Rivers was pretty good about making his reads in that game. He was just hitting the receiver that wasn't covered by Revis all game. When Revis would move to another receiver, Rivers would just fire to the open guy not covered by Revis. Although, obviously, he didn't do it with the amount of consistency that Manning did.
I disagree, but disagreement is healthy ;). After all you did single handedly remove the Patriots road jinx!

Re: Please trade for Calvin Johnson

We don't have to pay his bonus money. Detroit already did that.
Just his base salary which is like 2.5m this year.

Calvin Johnson, Wide Receiver, Detroit Lions, NFL Football Player - FOX Sports on MSN

Detroit-Lions Salaries | Detroit-Lions Player Salaries | 2009 Detroit-Lions Salary

As I said Lee Evan's base salary is $9M. The Pats won't take on a salary that big for a guy who has yet to make a real impact in the NFL.
Buffalo-Bills Salaries | Buffalo-Bills Player Salaries | 2009 Buffalo-Bills Salary
But you assume Johnson's contract which extends beyond just this year. Didn't he sign like a $60MM deal? I imagine the last 1/2/3 years are backloaded, no?

You're of course welcome to disagree. I'm just going by the eye test and have never seen the stats to disprove my eyes. But I'm more than willing to change my mind if anybody can find me the statstics for the completions that were allowed vs. Revis in the game. I'm sure there were a couple of them that I may have missed.

Re: Please trade for Calvin Johnson

BB is a freakin' genius. Well, as far as football goes. Going into the year where there will be a new rookie cap, he's got double picks in the first four rounds. Meanwhile, he's unloaded two high priced players who have limited years left.

Re: Please trade for Calvin Johnson

I love these threads. As if Detroit is going to rip apart their budding franchise for some draft picks. Stanford and Calvin Johnson are growing together (when Stanford is healthy) and the Lions know they could very well have the next Manning-Harrison. (maybe not QUITE that good, but you get my drift)

I'd LOVE Lee Evans in a Patriots uniform. I've always wanted to see what he could do without a slapdick QB throwing to him.

Re: Please trade for Calvin Johnson

Yeah, difference is you know Evans is going to do his best to earn that. I would give a 2nd and a 5th for Evans in a blink of an eye. Hell, I'd do Mankins for Evans straight up.

He is a great character guy. That much is definitely true. Hard worker, even in our abysmal system. Definitely wasted potential, and would instantly upgrade your offense.

Glad you asked. His salary is backloaded per usual but it never tops 5 million in base dollars.

2010 3.2m
2011 3.9m
2012 4.6m

Calvin Johnson

His contract is incredibly cost effective until 2013 when you'll have to pay out for a new deal.

You sound like a used car salesman. No we're not giving up a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick for Evans. A 5th, ok we can start to talk.

Lee Evans: Career Stats

Because he essentially is Reggie Wayne. Great route runner, great hands. Wayne has more size, Evans has more speed.

The difference?

Evans' QBs: Losman, Bledsoe, Holcomb, Edwards, Fitzpatrick, Brohm.

Wayne's QB: Peyton Manning.

Re: Vincent Jackson on Revis Island

ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.....god will people let this go. We are going the rest of the season like the way it is now

Probably not, but why not? Why in the world would we not try to get a talent like that? So we could take draft choices next year that after the lockout will play for the first time in 2012 as rookies and even if good probably won't be productive until 2013?

We won't be picking up anyone until next season. What you see right now is what we'll be playing with the rest of the year. Bill doesn't bring in people in the middle of the season unless he has no choice. And if he does, its going to be a vet not a younger player.

Re: Vincent Jackson on Revis Island

Vincent Jackson=less talent & more serious issues than Moss + more expensive in draft picks and contract demands than Moss and 1 screwup away from a 1 yr suspension.

They do it and I'm tempted to become a Chiefs fan instead.

Since you asked, all the numbers are managable going forward. I would trade a 1st and a 2nd for Calvin Johnson.
Calvin Johnson

"8/3/2007: Signed a six-year, $55.5 million contract. The deal contains $27.178 million guaranteed, including an initial roster bonus of $2.502 million and his base salaries in years four and five. Another $8.5 million is available through incentives. 2010: $3,276,813, 2011: $3,973,500, 2012: $4,670,188, 2013: Free Agent"

No he's not Reggie Wayne. Not even close. I will agree that he has had some sucktacular QBs. But good receivers produce regardless. Irving Fryar had 1,000 yard seasons with who throwing to him?
