Ah, the straw man. No one expected a Superbowl every year. A fourth would've been nice. Don't you understand the window probably closes when Brady retires or, in his late 30's, just isn't that effective anymore? And I think a lockout is likely next year
How could my comment be a straw man when the post I was responding to said 3 is no good, and the goal is an infinite number?
Regardless of whether the window closes soon, is already closed or is broken, the success of this era of the franchise is unquestionable.
Certainly I want more, I want a SB every year, but there is a big difference between appreciating the success we, as fans, have been handed, and still wanting more, and to trash everyone involved because of having unrealistic expectations after the fact.
Anyone who can say they exepcted more out of the BB era than we have already gotten, when BB was hired, is lying.
The problem is when every single expectation has been exceeded, fans decide to rip the franchise for the moves they made which have resulted in what we'v gotten...a tremendous amount of success, more than could be expected and a team that is still a contender.
I have no real issue with someone voicing their opinion about the quality of the team. But I have a huge issue picking and choosing decisions and villifying the decision maker who has produced what we've been given, without acknowledging the inordinate amount of success that the team has had.
Here is an example:
There was an article posted by the CHFF moron essentially saying the PAts defense has been easy pickings since 2006. This board, or some posters at least, jumped on that bandwagon. There have been pages and pages of posts about how the system sucks, how positions were neglected, how the defense has been so bad.
And guess what?
From 2006-2009 the Patriots allowed the 2nd fewest points in the NFL (15 more than #1). 22 teams were behind the Patriots every one of those seasons. None were better more years than not. Yet, this board rips into what the defense has done during that time. However, when this happens, it is called 'realistic' while the facts are called 'homerism'.
Somehow this board has adopted the belief that anything negative (even if the facts contradict it) is realistc and anything less than 100% negative is homerism.
