Pats trade for Jarrad Page, S, KC

Pure speculation on my part, but I would say this trade means either McGowan is headed to IR, BB is planning on using Meriweather at CB, or both.

Or it could mean (almost) nothing, a conditional pick only if he makes the roster, possibly as insurance if McGowan is unable to play.

I doubt it is a signal that Sanders will be traded; I doubt there are many teams that (a) need a safety, (b) don't care he missed their entire offseason, and (c) won't mind paying him what is making this year.

Minor move, IMO. Grabbing some low hanging fruit. He was probably on the outs in KC because of the contract dispute, so we bering him in and kick the tires for 2 weeks.
This wasnt a 'fleshing out the roster move' it was an opportunity with little risk.

The guy seems like a player. I wouldn't feel too secure if i was a safety. 225 lbs. athletic, clutch interceptions and some special teams.

Page requested a trade a while back and didn't want to play for the Chiefs anymore but as for us trading for him yeah it's interesting. Maybe someone is on there way out or headed on IR, I wonder how his specials teams play is and his nickname is the Raider Killer :D

As aforementioned it's probably bringing in a S because McGowan is out on injury, or maybe Sanders being traded for a DL/OLB. Only time will tell.

i'll take page over mcgowan all day - and i know absolutely nothing about the man ;)

Zero risk. The pick is conditional.

25 years old, 53 games in 4 seasons, including 39 starts.

10 career picks, 4 FF, averaged 5 tackles per start.

I don't think he's that good.

Given how young and inexpienced out secondary is they need to bring in a vet so everyone would be on the same PAGE.

:):):)

OK. . . . Pats' biggest needs are OLB, DE, OL, so they trade for a S?

I think theres more wheeling and dealing to come

If he was Meriweather nimble + Rodney mean, I doubt he would be available for a conditional pick.

KC's safety play has been terrible for a while, and I don't think one highlight is really going to speak to Page's ability as a player.

If he's being looked at as a starting calibre safety, Meriweather could be playing more CB than we think this year. Personally, I don't know a whole lot about the guy.

Maybe a change of scenery move. doesn't seem like a bad guy, just a guy caught in regime change, not unlike our recent cuts.

Also, we have beaucoup openings on teams now, so it isn't necessarily a cut somewhere else among the safeties. Probably is, though.

Page had a public spat with the Chiefs front office and demanded a trade at one point. Given the track record of general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Todd Haley for having "the right 53" guys on the team that buy into the program, Page is the pair of comfy brown shoes to their tailored black tuxedo. He just doesn't fit.

Also working against Page is the fact that as a 7th-round pick out of UCLA in 2006, he was the darling of former president Carl Peterson and head coach Herm Edwards, both of whom hold UCLA in the highest regard. Pioli and Haley have demonstrated that players of the old regime can be shown the door quickly and ruthlessly (see: Gonzalez, Tony).

The Chiefs spent two draft picks on safeties in this year's draft, #1 pick Eric Berry and fifth-round pick Kendrick Lewis. Berry will be starting immediately for the club and Lewis has had one of the best training camps of any player...

Page has been an OK player on a horrifically-bad defense, so his security on the team was questionable even before the holdout.

He was probably made available because the Chiefs drafted Eric Berry as their FS of the future and Page wanted a new contract and wasn't going to get it. So it's better to get something for him in a conditional pick versus nothing.

We start trading high draft pick for a QB, P, K or LS and I will get worried...otherwise my motto is IBBIT. In Bill Belichick I Trust.
