well..why didnt denver take bryant and instead took another WR ? there has to be some concern there...

Well that's exactly what I was saying, we could have had either player at a position of need.

One of the scouting reports says he allows too many completions. Just what we need.

Does anyone know any of the WRs he lined up against? This was the Big East afterall.

Agreed. But, even the best corners can't stay with their men for 39 seconds.

Definitly, we still need to improve the front 7. (which looks a lot easier than improving the seconday with who's left on the board) My post was in response to how McCourty only had 2 INTs the last two seasons. Just saying that an INT isn't the only way a CB can impact a play.

maybe pats will add wilhite or wheatley in a trade package to a bb tree team like denver...

Re: Devin McCourty

I went to Rutgers undergrad and I am currently in Rutgers Business School, and being an avid football fan, I have seen every Rutgers game for the last seven years. Devin McCourty has no business being drafted, in any round, period. He has terrible hands, he is a very average tackler, and he has no instincts to speak off. He has never made one impact play at Rutgers, in fact he has missed a number of tackles and INT that could have changed the game. Devin will play special trams for 3 years and be out of football in 5 years. This is simply the worst pick of the first round, the worst pick of the BB era, and is the exact reason this teams reign in the NFL is over!!! We will be fighting The Bills for the third spot in the East, and you know what I can't say we are a lock for number 3.

Thanks... now tell me, are your seats near fireman ed's section?

I agree that there is better value in the second round for pass rushers. Always has been. That said, what position do you take in the first round? BB probably just took his highest rated player and tomorrow is when we'll be filling in need. (or at least I hope, for the sake of many lives on this board)

I'm just angry that BB didn't take Dez Bryant, Odrick, Kindle, or Hughes in the first round. All big needs that weren't addressed.

The order of needs addressed does not necessarily match the players who are available. Why do fans find it acceptable to think they know the team needs -- and Belichick does not?

In order for BB to play his style of defense, he needs players with specific skills. McCourty obviously has those skills or he wouldn't have been the pick. And there's obviously room for him in the secondary or he wouldn't have been the pick.

The pass rush will be addressed -- but it's more important to get the right players -- who don't necessarily reside in round one.

Plenty of picks remaining...and maybe more trading...

Really, not based on this report:

In the last 38 contests, Rutgers has allowed the opposition to complete 572-of-1,038 passes (55.11 percent) for 7,144 yards, 36 touchdowns and 32 interceptions. Against McCourty, the Scarlet Knights opponents attempted 249 throws, completing just 88 (35.34 percent) for 684 yards and only two scores, an average of 7.77 yards per pass completion. He has allowed just 2.75 yards per pass attempt, the lowest figure of any active player in the Big East Conference.

While those figures are very impressive, they do not tell the entire story of this shutdown cornerback's ability. Against his main pass coverage assignments, McCourty has held those receivers to only 42 receptions for 386 yards on 158 passes targeted into his area, meaning that quarterbacks have completed just 26.58 percent of those tosses and their intended targets were limited to 9.19 yards per pass completion and 2.44 yards per attempt.

Ummm.... I doubt it. There were 5 CBs taken in the first round. Kindle is still not drafted. We could have McCorty at 27 and Kindle in the second round.

Do people not realize that Kindle wasn't drafted tonight and the Pats still could draft him.
I didn't know that there were that many dbs drafted. I doubt that kindle is there at 44

Well we do have plenty of ammo to move up for him.

As I said earlier, there should be a run on the QBs so it is possible he's still there at 35, 36, 37. It shouldn't take a ton to move up from 44.

You know what's funny? Belichick still gets trashed frequently for not drafting James Laurinaitis or Rey Maualuga. Now many of those same people act like the Pats can't get a pass rusher in the second round.

The Pats have 12 draft picks left. They are not going to use them all. What is stopping them from trading up?

i agree that he wont be there at #44 and i also agree with rob who says they may not draft him at all. i think BB maybe sticking to he's guns with the 6.4 260lbs OLB's it maybe be sapp, austin lane, or some 3rd or 4th round project.

God, I hope you're right. I just personally thought that Kindle was quite a bit better than some of those rd 2 guys. I didn't feel the same way about Odrick, which is why I'm fine passing on him.

Anyone see the tweet or whatever that Reiss sent saying Michael Smith had said we were not looking at Odrick or Kindle? Does this mean just at 24 (it was at that point) or overall?

I think you're right with that last part. I'd love Austen Lane.
There also appears to be a lot of 6'6" 270lb guys next year...

How is noone pointing out that this guy had SEVEN blocked kicks in college? That isn't astounding display of ahtleticism?

Our entire pass defense sucked last year. Yes, pass rush needs to be upgraded but the DB was awful last year, too. Too many short passes going long, too many bombs.

This overreaction is the effect of people playing Madden and thinking they're football personnel experts. You need more than two good corners to beat a pass happy offense, and there is such a thing as a coverage sack.

I don't know if we'll get Kindle tomorrow but it's fair to think we'll package that 3 we got with Dallas to move up in the Second. Belichick loves moving arund in the second round and picking up targets, and without a 3 it would have been too costly to move up significantly. He got the player he wanted and the maneuverability he feels he needs tomorrow.

Let's remember, Belichick had the opportunity to select Bryant, Kindle, or Hughes and passed. Noone else picked Kindle in the first. This reminds me a lot of the Mankins pick, a lot of people asking who's this guy and why a guard?
