Re: Josh Reed - visiting NE tomorrow (per PFT)

Why does everyone keep forgetting a star receiver is still out there, T.O. Must be the attitude.

TO was the most cancerous cancer of all last year. It's not like he's asking for big money, and the Bills passed on him.

It's because he chewed out every single one of his QBs in the middle of the huddle, and he totally castrated Trent Edwards.

Re: Josh Reed - visiting NE tomorrow (per PFT)

Reed is not as good as Reche Caldwell. He may be heady, he may run decent routes, but he has no heart and his routes are questionable. He will not over the middle and give up his body.

Reed is the guy that totally blew the 2nd game against the Patriots last year. Mr. Alligator Arms himself. That being said, better than Aiken and Stanback. Yes.

Re: Josh Reed - visiting NE tomorrow (per PFT)

How about (1) Moss, (2) Welker, (3) Reed, (4) Mason, (5) Aiken, (6) Tate, (7) edelman and (8) Drafted rookie

i guess 1 would be odd man out

Edelman would be (3) on that list.

I would welcome a Reed signing though. Always seemed like a sturdy possession-type who could help Brady out. Definitely an improvement over Galloway/nothing from last season.

2 reasons edelman isnt 3 on the list. 1, i didnt put it in any particular order. 2, i originally forgot about him altogether

Yeah, I noticed that before you edited your post.

Reed is another of those guys that Belichick has often talked up. He's not gonna beat many guys lined up outside, but he could help with the inside underneath stuff.

Definitely. I really think he'd be a good pickup for this offense. I think they were looking at him three or four years ago too.

Eh, I wouldn't be against it. But I wouldn't be thrilled with Reed either. Walter would have been a much better option but he got resigned by his original team.

You've watched a different Josh Reed than I have. Tough and over the middle is what Josh Reed does.

BB likes to go after division guys who he is familiar with. Like Wes Welker. Not that Josh Reed is Wes Welker. But I think he would help the WR core out.

I watch him every week. I live in Buffalo. The guy turtles constantly. He was wide open last year when the Bills were coming back against the Patriots and I saw him looking for a DB who might whack him. Dropped the ball because he was afraid of a hit that wasn't even close. I was maybe 10 yards away from him when it happened on the sideline near the Patriots 5 yard line, I could see his eyes. I've seen him pull that number quite a few times.

I remember him pulling the same thing in 2005 and 2006. Asante Samuel was coming up for a big hit (har, har) and Reed drops an easy ball. The Bills were getting ready to go up 3 scores on the Patriots, but right after that the Patriots turned the game around and won.

The problem right now is that the Pats have ZERO speedsters on the roster outside of Randy Moss. There is no other semblance of a deep threat, leaving teams free to double team Moss all game long. It's remarkable that he still gained 1,200 yards and caught 13 tds despite that!

Reed's no better than a 4th receiver (and that's prior to Welker coming back) if the Patriots are going to run a primarily 3 WR offense as they have the past few years. The positive with Reed is that he's a solid pro, the negative is that he's short, slow, and brings no explosive quality (that we badly need) to the offense. Here's an amazing stat: In the past 3 years, Josh Reed has 134 catches for Buffalo, his long reception? 30 yards. Another one: of those 134 catches, exactly 2 were for touchdowns.

Re: Josh Reed - visiting NE tomorrow (per PFT)

Reed would play a role. Not every player they sign is going to be a major splash. As we have said all offseason, this team has a lot of holes and one of them is depth at wr. This potential move provides the Patriots with another option at wr, a player similar in build (5-9--5-10; 185-200lbs) to guys who have had success here in the past, who is familiar with division and conference opponents, and who would likely come at an inexpensive price.

I'd be happy if he can replace Jabar Gaffney.

Tate has speed, although he is completely unproven.

Certainly an upgrade over the fringe players the Pats were throwing out there, like Aiken and Stanback.

In those 3 years, Buffalo had a whopping 43 td passes total (or 7 less than Tom Brady had in 2007). Just sayin'...

I remember the play well, but it certainly isn't an accurate representation of his overall play. There's barely a receiver in the league who hasn't short-armed, or looked for a DB at one time or another. Josh Reed converts 3rd downs, goes over the middle, and blocks better than the majority of receivers. There's definitely room for that on the roster, imo.
