Carlos Dunlap

I wouldn't take Graham, personally. Great player, but a 4-3 DE without the height or the hips and ability to play in space.

I understand the risk involved with Dunlap. I have no idea whether he'll be on BB's board. But I'm not sure I see a "sure thing" available at the OLB position.

I'll be curious to see what they do with Graham at the Senior Bowl practices.

i dont wanna risk a 1st rounder for carlos dunlap.
instead of dunlap i would love to see Corey Wootton (6-7 / 280) from northwestern in pats uniform.
i think, this guy is a hard woking edge rusher.
does anybody think, we drafting him in the 1st round or reach him in the 2nd ?
Do anybody saw this guy over 60 min?

Dunlap, should he fall because of the DUI, would be a great fit for this system. It's funny that you draw comparisons between him and Willie Mac when wondering what type of role he would play in this defense, because that's exactly what I was thinking. As a Gator fan, I can't really remember Dunlap being a bad person off the field. The only bit of trouble he got into was the DUI, which was extremely bad timing and pissed me off, personally. But I tend to give guys a second chance and I really think that this was just a boneheaded decision by the kid. If we can get him at a decent spot in the draft, I would not mind one bit seeing Dunlap drafted. The Gator defense clearly missed him against Alabama as they could not even so much as sniff the quarterback. Something tells me that BB and Urban will have a conversation about Mr. Dunlap before the draft happens.

That's sort of the way I see. Dunlap never had a reputation as a troublemaker, and he was reportedly devastated at his DUI and suspension for the SEC championship game. I'm hoping it was a one time mistake by a young kid.

I think Dunlap would be ideal in the elephant role and playing the "strongside" position. He's the closest thing I've seen to Willie McG.

I don't have a problem with taking Dunlap but see him as more of Richard Seymour type player, 3-4 DE with some ability to move inside on passing downs. Part of the problem with the patriots is related to scheme, Big Willie is an all time favorite but his position almost seems out dated. To be a 3 down player an OLB must be able to set the edge, rush the passer and drop into zones. I don't know if they need a bigger, slower player on the outside.

Which of those things do you not see Dunlap being able to do? I don't see him as a 3-4 DE at all.

I guess he could be the next Julius Pepper, and I would consider drafting him but when I see 6'6' 290 I don't think he fits as an OLB.

haven't seen many FLA games this year. He just doesn't do much for me as far as a player with us. Maybe it's the Gators thing. I don't know...

I can see him being drafted by NE in the late first, they could use him at either 3-4 DE or 4-3 DE/DT. I don't see him as a 3-4 OLB.

I still can not figure out why Florida played a 3-3-5 against Alabama. Alabama is a running team, so I would have thought Florida would steal the Tennessee game plan and stack 8 men in the the box and play man on the outside with the occasional double team on Jones on 3rd down and medium/long.

Williams went #1 and Peppers #2. I'm discussing a scenario where Dunlap slips to 24 because of inconsistency and off-field issues. There's a world of difference in terms of the money and risk for a pick at #24 vs. a pick at #1 or #2.

Excellent point. I think Dunlap could fall to the late first/early second which could tempt BB to make a move.

Lets all not kill this kid for a DUI, who here on any given night if a cop as around a certain corner would not also have a DUI on their record.

Its not like he brought a handful of guns to the locker room and started p[ionting them at his teammates (like THAT would ever happen)!

Dunlap will go in the first round, edge pass rushers always do. Wait until he puts ups some serious 40 times at the combine and AL Davis will be taking him with the 5th pick.

Everyone looks at Dunlap's "bust" factor. But he also has a "boom" factor. How many times do you have a chance at getting a top 5 talent in the 20's? Not very often. BB never had a shot at a Peppers or Mario Williams coming out. Dunlap could still go much earlier than where we pick, but if he slips to the 20's I think BB would have to give strong consideration to being able to get a guy with his kind of size and skills that late in the draft.

As far as his off field issues, Brandon Meriweather also had some off field issues his senior year, and that didn't stop the Pats (and they haven't been an issue in 3 years with the team). Dunlap's not a kid with a recurrent history of problems, he's just had one bad incident. I'm sure that BB will check him out thoroughly, but I wouldn't take him off my board because of one isolated mistake.

He sure did. He stomped a kid out on camera. I would classify that as way worse than a DUI, especially in states where the legal level is reached by saying the word "alcohol."

Dunlap would not be a DE in the 3-4. However, we can move him up the LOS in 4-3 sets just fine.

I agree, he is almost perfect as a replacement for McGinest. And I think if BB can teach Vrabel to cover, he can teach Dunlap to as well. It won't happen overnight, but there is so much upside to Dunlap's game that he could be worth the gamble if he gets his head on straight.

And again the character issues have to be considered and considered strongly, that is why I think he will drop a good bit in the draft.

Assuming he slips and that BB considers his issues and is ok with him, I would be thrilled with something like Dunlap in the 1st and Austen Lane in the late 2nd. Dunlap and Greg Romeus are more "strong side" DE/OLBs in the McGinest/Vrabel mold, and Lane is more of a "weak side" guy in the Roosevelt Colvin mold. Add an offensive guard and then BVA at any number of positions of need and it would make for a very good draft.

I've been wanting this guy all season.

To me, a guy that step it up the bigger the stage is is made for a team like the Patriots, always in some big position or another. We need a pass rusher, and wether it's Dunlap or someone else he has to come from this draft

As a Brit who doesn't watch college football, I can't really offer my own opinions on players - all I can do is read what others say, both forum posters on here and 'professional' evaluators on other sites.

I read these two forceful comdemnations of Carlos Dunlop - can anyone who has seen him regularly comment?

It's hard to say. People used to say that Seymour dogged it a lot in college. And, you know, they may have been right. And he dogged it in the pros. But he also played hard.
