Tie breaker

Since all three clubs are from different divisions, wild card tie breakers apply:

1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.

so it will be common games.

Both SD and NE have one loss in the division. Assuming they win out in the division, that would be a tie.

Both SD and NE have the same conference record. Assuming both finish with the same conference record, that would be a tie.

It would come down to common games between SD and NE if both are tied.

Looks like CIN has the inside track on tie breakers though with a 5-0 division record. Right.

Lets just have a better record than the bengals and chargers and make it moot...

No division records don't matter.

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION

Would you replace all the bold divisions with CONFERENCE when you are trying to figure a CONFERENCE tie-breaker? or is still just Division record anyway?

No, read my posts above with links: you use the wild card method.

I don't get number 1 in the wildcard method. Does that mean the division record would would matter? Please explain. It's too complicated for me.

When they say "division record" that's for teams WITHIN the same division. It doesn't matter how well or crappy Cincy does in the AFC North compared to how WE do in the AFC East.

thank you.

so it is conference record.

Then common games.

All the team we are competing with, not including the Colts, have 3 conference losses, so far, so its anyone spot to win.

CIN plays SD. The winner in all probability knocks the other out of contention for the bye.

NO, we dont.
If we have the same conf recored as cinc. , the tie break is games vs. common opp:

NE is 2/2 ... W&L vs Jets W vs Balt L vs Den
Cinc 2/1 TBD vs Jets 2Ws vs Balt , L v Den

If they lose to Jets we would tie them and then move on to strength of schedule which Einstein couldn't figure. (Assumes we have another loss to even up their Jet "loss")

SD would be 3/2 vs common opp with NE if they beat TEN ; we are 3/1 with a game to play in Mia, so we're better here.

SD with wins over Denver and our loss may also be better placed.

SD plays TENN, which is the last common opponent between us and SD on their schedule.

SD played MIA, so our game against MIA also counts as a common opponent.

Assuming both SD and us win out in common games

Our record would be 4-1.
Their record would be 3-2.

So as long as we take care of business in MIA, we should own the common game tie breaker with SD.

i have just done the math gang and we are the 4th seed right now, sadly to say . . .

if as all three teams are tied we look to the 3 way tie breaker . . . as they have the same conference record we look to the common games, as there are no 4 commons games, we go to the next tie breaker which is strength of victory (#5tie breaker), SOV is the win-loss record of the opponents have beaten . . .

so far its as follows:

2) Cinn - SOV 33-37 (with chicago still play this weekend)

3) SD - SOV - 31-38 (with Phi still to play this weekend)

4) NE - SOV - 28-43 (with all oppoents who have lost to us already played this weeken)

there is a small chance that my numbers might be off a game or so as I have not had time tonight to double check the numbers, but the first look at the numbers we are the 4th seed right now . . . of coarse this could all change if the teams that we beat keep winning and the teams sd/cinn have beaten start to loose, furthermore, if we get more quality wins, like NO, then our SOV at year end will go up . . . hopefully if it does come down to this tie breaker that we have a strronger SOV at the end of the year . . . .

After SOV is the strength of schedule (SOS) tie breaker . . .
