Wilfork an Elite 3-4 Defensive Tackle. A Myth?

Being lumped in together for determining franchise/transition tag values actually helps both nose tackles and defensive tackles. Since it only averages the top 5 and 10 salaries at the position, it logically follows that sampling from a larger group of players can only benefit all of them.

I guess. I'd have to see the bottom of ten, obviously the top guys could make more (Haynesworth). There might not be ten decent nose tackles. There's always a 3-4 team just scrambling trying to get lucky.

This vince logic blows lol

Ted had bru in his prime and ted washington in their. ted and bru of old brought even more weight into the run defencing triangle of NT and 2 ILB

Vince had a faded bru , Monty [ remember him ] and brown with a bru who was not the the old bru. also when you throw in Mayo the run defending triangle effective weight has gone by 100-150 LB between the smaller vince and 2 light ILB.

3 OL at 900 LB are going to push a lighter group easily then larger one.....

seymour has down for 2 yrs and had a career year in tackles.

SEY LED THE LEAGUE IN SACKS FOR A 3-4 END this year.Waiting for the members who recommend the only way to improve our pass rush is by
cutting or trading the guy who led the team and nfl in his position in sacks.

Great points all around.

But you don't think it says something about Seymour that the Pats have the 2nd best run D when teams try to run at him?

No, I don't. Why? Because they're also running at Mike Vrable and Mayo and Ellis Hobbs and whoever else on that side. THeres too many factors.

DVOA is a terrific stat because it doesn't try to say more than its data indicates. Everything else on footballoutsiders (especially the individual player stats) range from useless to misleading.

How about the fact that the run D on that side becomes MUCH WORSE when Seymour isn't playing in those games? All other variables are the same, take one player out, result changes. At what point do you not dismiss the stats?

Those are great points to consider as well.
