Joey Porter: "The Road To The AFC East Title goes through Miami"

The Jerk Store called, they have a surplus of Joey Porter.

I don't think it "motivates" the Patriots, they're not coming out blowing them out 55-0.

However I bet you anything those comments irritate them, they'll have it in their heads when they play them. I just think Porter sounds stupid. Woop****ingbee you won the division on based on AFC record, not division record, against a team that lost their starting QB. Not only that, than you get your ass handed to you at home that very season...And your going to brag about it?

I look at us Patriot fans saying the last few years have been frustrating. In the last 4 seasons we've been 11-5, 18-1, 12-4, 10-6. 3 division titles, one super bowl appearance. Here this guy is holding a ******* division title in our face. Is that not stupid? That's like calling up Bill Gates mocking him after making 1 million dollars.

He'd be be laughing his ass off that he wipes with billions, and I feel like the Patriot players feel the same way. Does it "anger" them? Probably not, but it probably annoys them some idiot is holding a division crown in their face, I'm sure they wont let it happen again. I mean we almost took it WITHOUT Tom Brady. We'd have to have a pretty ****ty season to not get it with him I'd say.

they have an entire wall made of cork.

Let him talk all he wants. He usually ends up making an ass out of himself anyway.

Miami has huge disappointment written all over them. I wouldn't be surprised if they finished last in the division to be honest.

And yes, they won the division, but it was on a tie-breaker. That's not exactly something you should be bragging about as much a Porter is.

The bulletin board stuff is overrated. It is not irrelevant. It gets brought up and coaches will use it in their motivation speeches during the week. Coaches use anything they can and players lose focus during the season at times. It helpes there. But that is where it ends. It has little or nothing to do with what happens on the field.

The Patriots did not target Anthony Smith because of his big mouth - it was because he sucks. Did they enjoy it a little more, rub it in a little more? Of course. But if you think the game plan was drawn up that way because of what he said then you think if Ed Reed said it a gameplan would have been to target him too, right?

Everybody likes to point out all the times someone talked trash and then the Pats beat them as evidence of how they use bulletin board material to beat other teams. They beat those teams because they were better.

Why didn't it work when Porter called the Pats a bunch of stiffs without Brady last year and then the Dolphins humilaited the Pats and he had 3 sacks? How about when Plexico predicted victory and that the Pats wouldn't score a lot on their defense? Or that same game when the Giants got off the plane in black suits because they were in Arizona to attend the Patriots funeral?

Right motivation doesn't factor in how well they play against a team. Like motivation doesn't factor into how many points they put on the board or how often they throw at or over someone

Right...

Motivation does matter.

But note I said divisional rival. And folks bring up the Steelers. Steelers aren't in our division. Some BB material can be helpful to motivate a team to play a non-divisional rival as hard as they would a divisional rival. You shouldn't need any BB material to consider divisional games the 6 most important on the schedule.

Joey spouting off at the mouth again,What he does not realize is the there will no longer be a Brady Less Patriots team to take advantage of and win the East.

Miami was a pure fluke last year,True that Parcells turned that team around pretty fast and the Wildcat formation had teams scrambling for answers but the Wildcat is no longer a surprise and the other 3 teams in the East will make life for Miami much tougher in 2009.

My guess is Miami finishes 3rd in the division this season @ 9-7 but Porter thinks otherwise ....

A couple of thoughts.

Porter is embarrassing himself. Being the "Champion" of any division in the NFL today (especially when it is won on a tie breaker) is about as meaningful as winning the $5.00 prize in the Lottery. Nice, but not anything you talk about.

I think that the SB Champion has a right to some deference at the beginning of the following season, but Division or Conference champs? Come on, this is the NFL, not Tiddlywinks.

"who cares, they are in our division"

Right...

Well, i guess when you're a team not use to success you take defending your division title quite seriously.....

I always laugh when I'm at Publix, displays still fully stocked with "AFC East Champions" T-shirts.

T.O.'s presence in Buffalo

Porter talking in Miami

The Jets talking in New York.

Seems to me as if AFC East games will be pretty intense for the Patriots this season. 6-0 ought to solve the problem.

Ehh... I agree with everything else but 6-0. I don't think we'll get through this division undefeated this year.

Or how they approach burning a Pittsburgh Steelers' safety?

Oh, The Steelers remembered that last season. When both starters were actually in the game.

"we've played against better safeties than that"

Yep, it was remembered.

For what it's worth, I'm a Ryan Clark fan...

I have to admit, when we first brough him over from Washington, I thought to myself "who the heck is this guy?" then he had that problem with his spleen in Denver and missed a ton of games and I figured we bit it in free agency with the guy. But he has turned out to be a fantastic free agent pick up and with him playing the way he has, we dumpted Anothy Smith off the roster this year. Clark is One of our best FA pick ups in a while, that's for sure.

I think one of the reasons Rooney got rid of Porter were not just for financial reasons nor were they for an adequate replacement,I think the Rooney family does not tolerate trouble makers and big mouths - I think when Porter had that altercation with the Bengal player in Vegas it was the beginning of the end of Porter in Pittsburgh.

The Rooney's run a tight ship and a respectable organization and Porter simply didn't fit anymore despite the great talent Joey has as an NFL LB

This all played into it for sure. Especially bringing in the New Head Coach when Porter was clearly a "Cowher guy". The Rooney's pre-empted any locker room nonsense by dumping one of the most recognizable, yet controversial guys on the team and this move allowed Tomlin to pretty much take full control of the team with zero distractions internally.

The Jets are going to be terrible this year. The bills are probably going to be better than last year, but still not very good. Miami? I think they'll be ok, but worse than last year.

I'd be surprised if we weren't the favorite in all 6 games. Will we win them all? Who knows?

I hope the Steelers remember that every year that Brady kicks the hell out of them.

For the record, I'm pretty sure that the Steelers 'remember' that it was their safety who was the putz and not the Patriots.

It's easy to 'remember that' when Brady isn't playing.

I wasn't actually predicting 6-0. I was just noting that going 6-0 would shut the other teams up.

However, now that it's come up, 6-0 wouldn't surprise me at all.
