So what do you guys think?

Chung

Butler

NT from Boston College (forgot his name)

Sebastian Vollmer

I would say B+ so far, but of course you really can't evaluate a draft until a few years down the road.

Love the first three picks.

I know less about Vollmer, but I'm intrigued.

I'd say B+ is about right.

Love it, we all wanted a tackle, a safety, D-line depth, and value - Butler is a first round talent.

Chung: A

Brace: B

Butler: A

Vollmer: C+

So overall I'd say about a B+. Not terrible, but I really would have rather had Beatty, Meredith, Gilbert, Johnson, Smith, etc. Ah well, in BB I trust. . . .

Just disappointed we didn't take hewhomustnotbenamed.

Me too. Would have taken him over Brace. But what do I know? Ah well, I'm fairly happy with the way it turned out. :)

I think we got at least three very good players, Vollmer is a project and a typical BB WTF is he thinking pick in the second rnd.

Chung.......new lawyer Malloy? Same size and speed, also picked in about the same place fwiw... A

Butler ..Rated by many the second best CB...A

Brace, run stuffing lane clogging nose tackle apprx. 340lbs......Ted Washinton JR.?...B+

I like it. They didn't make any mistakes...Butler has great athletic ability and potential...one said his CB workout was the best they'd seen in many years....

I just don't know where they're going to put them all. I guess Wilfork wants too much money? You draft a guy in the 2nd round you envision him getting playing time.

I would give it a solid B+.

I mean we didn't get anyone potentially game-changing, but we got a solid group of guys. And who knows? Maybe Butler will beat out Hobbs or Bodden for a spot.

All this tells me is that Jason Taylor is almost guaranteed(we didn't get any LBs in the draft)

B-I like the Chung and Butler picks. I think we should have passed on brace and went with Barwin or E.Brown. Hopefully Chung is starting later in the year and Butler is seeing the feild. I really want us to get an OLB in round 3. Michael Johnson from GT or Lawrence Sidbury from Richmond. A RB to go along with one of thoes and maybe some DL depth will make it an A- at best.

I was actually really disappointed we passed on the chance to take Oher. I think he is going to be a really good LT for 10 years. Would have loved him in the 1st.

The trade with GB was good.

We actually gave up a decent amount to trade up in the 2nd.

Overall with our actual picks:
Chung:B I love the intangibles, leadership, hard hitting style. Not sure what he looks like in coverage.

Brace:B- I like Brace, I think he fits our system, I am not sure we needed to move up to get him. Also, there were other players I liked more but I understand the need for depth on the Dline

Butler:B+I really like this pick, think he fits our system, and can really cover. Could be a 1st round value.

Vollmer:C I like the size, and I like that we had some sort of connection with the guy, but as others have said, could have been had later. I admit I don't know a ton about this guy.

I'm happy with it. I did think that the Pats could have traded into the top 15 to draft a stud, but I'm confident that they did their due diligence work in scouting out Chung, Brace, Darius and Sebastian.

What on earth is the team going to do with four third rounders tomorrow?

Chung and Butler are solid picks and seem like real Patriots-types as BB talked about how intelligent they are and how Chung made all the defensive calls last season. Chung can also play in the box. Also, as we've proved over the last few years, we can't have enough DBs, as they seem to drop like flies. Now we're pretty strong back there, and we won't have to watch Deltha O'Neil getting smoked.

I like the Brace pick if only because he can play NT and is a true 3-4 lineman.

Vollmer is a reach in the second round, but there is some pretty good tape of him over at draftguys.com. He's definitely a project, but has played both left and right tackle and looks pretty light on his feet for a guy who's 6'8". He also looks like a pretty athletic tackle formerly a tight end I believe.

So overall, I thought it was a solid day for the Pats-no sexy picks but good football players.

We got some solid players, but I am completely confused about why no linebackers were taken. I guess we are signing taylor to play OLB and not finding a replacement at ILB? We could have had a great young LBing core after this draft, and instead we will have 3 aging starters.

I know people will say that the draft was good since we got good players, but the cost was too high. Im not saying we reached, I am saying we took several players at the cost of some linebacker talent.

Also, I guess BB didnt see the lions taking delmas, because I bet he would have been willing to give up a 6th to trade up one spot and take him over chung...

This was not the draft I was expecting, and I am not pleasantly surprised.

BB said he considers a draft a success if the team comes out better than it went in. THe team could have come out looking much better than it does now.

Grade: C+

Overall I'll give that a B+. The Pats improved their secondary depth greatly with 2 guys who could develop into future starters. Brace insures against Wilfork's departure in free agency. And Vollmer is a just a freak. I mean 6'8 315 lbs who runs a 5.1 40, 36.5 vert, and 32 reps? I don't know much about him but he is an imposing dude.

The only area that the Pats didn't address was linebacker. So I assume they take an ILB in day 2 and sign Jason Taylor. Oh, I hope we also get a punter. And you know a tight end has to be coming tomorrow!

Also, I guess BB didnt see the lions taking delmas, because I bet he would have been willing to give up a 6th to trade up one spot and take him over chung...

I disagree. I've said several times previous to the draft that I preferred Chung over Delmas because he has better size and will be a better complement to Meriweather.

I think you guys are going to love Vollmer. He is huge and NASTY!!!!!! Houston's offense threw the ball all over the place and Vollmer played on both sides and he does a decent job of sinking the hips for such a large body. He does get after people in the running game, but does not really have a flat back. He is going to remind people of Marcus McNiel of San Diego, but he is going to need some seasoning first.

He has not played the game long so he should get better and better especially after a season working with Dante.

I actually had the Pats taking Vollmer in my final mock. I made no secret I like nasty players and Vollmer and Lang are two really nasty OL guys.

I agree, this was good. Ever since our secondary showed holes following the 04 season, I have been hoping for a couple studs at DB... ironic we got them the year we needed help at LB more. I am very glad that we finally have someone to replace harrison, who I really dont think has helped us for a while now.

I think part of the problem with our secondary was that for the past several years our pass rush has been nearly nonexistant.

With the picks they had, they could have gotten the 3 defensive players and still drafted Oher. Unless tomorrow's draft pushes a lot of those picks into next year and/or upgrades at the very bottom of the draft, today will go down in my book as a failed draft due to a lost opportunity.
