Oh good, one more team to hate that I didn't hate yesterday.

It is ironic that for the past three years a decent number of Patriots' fans have rooted quietly for the Browns because they'd like to see Romeo do well; but now . . . :D

Yup, most Patriots fans wished Romy the best of luck. That shows that we are not bitter about people leaving if it's done the right way.

Wow, the Mangenius has got to be more smarter than I figured. More smarter enough to dupe an NFL owner into believing Mangenius is so rare a coach that he must be hired NOW! Hey, wicked more smart people like Randy Lerner must be psyched about showing his new GM who is the real more powerful one around the Browns. That's a good idea since the Browns are so more good they don't need those pesky draft choices they traded away. And, hey, they've got two more pissah excellent QB's!! Boy what a more good time Cleveland is going to have.,

I might be in the minority here, but I think this was a great hire by the Browns. I think that Mangini is a good coach who was made the scapegoat in NY for their epic collapse. He managed 10 wins in his first season with a playoff appearance, had an awful second season, and had his team playing great in his third season until his QB torpedoed the whole operation. IMO, I think Favre was forced on Mangini and he got stuck with a guy who didn't want the type of offense Mangini wanted to run (ball control).

So even though I think the guy is an ingrate for ratting out the guy who hired him as a ball boy and then mentored him into becoming a HC in the NFL, he does do a good job gameplanning for teams. He needs to learn how to make better adjustments but the guy can definitely coach.

i dont know about great but it isnt as bad a hire as one might think according to my opinion. the jets really did mangini a favore by firing him . ifhe was stll there then if favre returned he wouldve been screwed and if he didnt he wouldnt have a decent QB with 1 yr left in the contract.
We saw articles like this when BB was hired in ne

sometimes things work out. but his biggest challenge is that including palmer all 3 teams in the division have franchise QB's so its going to be a tough tough division.

A year from now Browns fans will be pulling their hair out from getting the butt-end of the Belichick legacy: BB in his formative years, Romeo Crennel, and now Tubby Ratfink. What an awful series of events.

Just read that ex Patriots assistants Rob Ryan and Brian Daboll will be DC and OC respectively.

I thought Ryan was the DC in Oakland. Is Al Davis gonna just let him go? It will probably be Romeo as DC.

Hopefully this bit of news means that RAC will be back w/the Pats:
Eric Mangini agrees to deal to coach Cleveland Browns - ESPN

For the position of defensive coordinator, sources told Smith that Mangini will bring aboard Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, whose contract with Oakland also is up. Sources also said that Mangini and Crennel discussed the possibility of Crennel returning to work with Mangini but decided it best to both go in a different direction.

Mangini will hire Jets quarterbacks coach Brian Daboll, whose contract is expiring, as his offensive coordinator, league sources told Smith.

Didn't the majority of you guy's say Mangini would never get another Coaching job in the NFL after the horrible sins he made against the Pats?:eek:

Well Ha Ha Ha, to you then.:singing:

Mangini can teach and coach, he just can't make adjustments in game, I am glad he is not the Jet coach, and I wish him well.

Even before Mangini was hired, Browns ownership was said to give Crennel a chance to stay on board as an assistant. Now that Mangini's been hired, there's speculation that Mangini will keep Crennel as his DC.

Mangini is also said to make Brian Daboll the OC position. If you guys remember, Daboll was with the Pats and it was between him and McDaniels that was going to take over the OC when Charlie left. Daboll then was hired away from the Pats when his contract expired to be the Jet's QB coach.

AFC North is definitely a tough division. Steelers have a great program going. **** Lebeau's not going anywhere so Pitt's defense will always be one of the top. They also have a franchise QB who is one of the best in the game. Baltimore is another great program with Newsome always drafting well. They also have found their QB and their coach looks like he knows what they're doing. The Bengals have some talent, but looks like a mess from the outside. Who knows what's going on over there. Eric's gonna have a tough time, but I think he'll do well.

lol, we did, but apparently one team was willing to give him a job...look at the owner though, that should pretty much explain everything

Yes, and I was one of them. And I stand by it. Since when are the Browns in the NFL?

It's all about timing and if it weren't for two things:

1. Romeo buying his team ice creams at Dairy Queen after each loss as well as soiling his diaper again
2. A Cleveland Browns owner's Patriotic infatuation with all things silver, blue and red

Then Eric is pushing a pencil in a high-rise in Hartford.

No other team even sniffed him, not one, aside from this owner and this was Eric's last and only chance at landing another HC gig. Timing in life is everything isn't it Eric. Similar to the timing and subsequent luck of meeting the man that made you when you were fetching footballs and coffee.

I don't know enough about the Browns owner to form an oppinion. But he did hire a bright young mind as head coach.

:)

It is funny that some of the local 'experts' suggested he was too young to be a headcoach and should stay under Bill's wing for some seasoning. And then after spygate he was tainted and would never coach again. Meanwhile he was unemployed (in a recession) for less than a week and will end up making > $20M in the 4-6 years since he left the Pats.

Experts = idiots

The one thing I have not understood from the beginning of this recruiting - interviewing - hiring process is why the team would hire a coach first, and then a GM. Seems to be a bit bass ackwards to me.
