woohoo!!! Enjoy!

*picks are projected based on where i think the teams will finish the season.

Acquired Picks:

Round 1 #20 - Detroit trades their 1st round pick acquired from Dallas in the Roy Williams trade for QB Matt Cassel.

Round 2 #42 - Patriots receive San Diegos 2nd round pick for picking FB Jacob Hester last year with the Pats 3rd rounder.

Round 3 #97 - Patriots receive a 3rd round compensatory pick for losing Asante Samuel to free agency.

Projected Patriots draft picks through 3 rounds:

Round 1 #20 (from DET)
Round 1 #25 (pats pick)
Round 2 #42 (from SD)
Round 2 #57 (pats pick)
Round 3 #92 (pats pick)
Round 3 #97 (comp pick for Samuel)

Patriots draft with trades:

Round 1 #12 - Rey Maualuga ILB USC

* Pats trade up in round 1 using their 2nd round pick #57 to select the best player in this draft ILB Rey Maualuga. Teaming Maualuga inside with Mayo would be devastating to opposing teams. With Bruschi finished its almost a no brainer, draft Maualuga to play inside on the strongside with Mayo opposite him on the weakside.

Round 1 #25 - Mike Mickens CB Cincinnati

* We need corners desperately, a #1 shutdown corner would be nice but we're not getting that this draft. Mickens is a darn good solid CB that is physical and good in coverage, we could really use him.

Round 2 #42 - Chad Johnson WR Cincinnati Bengals

* There is no question Chad Johnson is going to get traded this offseason and be out of Cincy, we have to bounce on that. It would make our WR core more leathal than it already is, Moss needs someone opposite him that can pull double coverage off him, and Johnson could do that. I believe Johnson would like to get out of Cincy no matter what, but what he really wants is to win at this stage of his career, and BB seems to like Chad, im sure he would LOVE to come here. I think this is a good value of a pick to give for Johnson, i dont think anyone will give a 1st rounder its just to risky with his well known antics, but theres no way in heck hes going to come cheep either. I high 2nd round pick seems fair to me.

Round 2 #57 - *TRADED*

* This pick was traded to move up in round one to select Maualuga.

Round 3 #92 - Alex Boone OT Ohio State

* We need depth on the oline Boone would be a nice pickup.

Round 3 #97 - Domonique Johnson CB Jackson State

* He is drawing comparisons to Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, 6-2 200 pounds with sub 4.35 40 yard dash, and from a small school. We could use a taller corner in our midget army.

Too many boom or bust picks there. In no particular order... Id like to see these are our first 3 picks:

Clint Sintim, Patrick Chung, Kevin Barnes or Mickens.

Right now they're all fringe 1-2 round players. Chung may have slipped a bit.

p.s. why the HELL would we trade Cassell AND our 2nd rounder for the 12th pick.

The way he's playing right now, he's worth the 12th pick by himself. Realistically, I think we will franchise him as an insurance policy in case Brady doesn't heal properly or isn't the same as before.

I don't think we need to improve the interior of our defense. We get burnt on
the perimeter. Lousy cb play and need an improved pass rush. I don't think
Rey fills either of those holes. In fact, I think Guyton is going to play ilb. In
today's football your 2nd ilb is in for one play. Then, replaced by a nickel back.
My 3 priorities on defense are, cb, s and pass rusher. Not a knock on Malaleuga,
he's going to be a good player. Just don't want to use consecutive top picks on
ilb. When, we have major holes elsewhere. I'd even settle for Detroit's 2nd
rounder for Cassel. I'll wait to see who comes out before speculating though
on our picks.

I am thinking Curry from Wake Forest followed by Mickens and Herman Johnson. (Neal is a free agent after next season) third round a TE or RT.

Nice effort, but I just don't like these picks.
- Move up to 12 to take another ILB?
- Mickens is a good player, but if we can't get a true #1 type player I'll pass on the CB
- Chad Johnson? Don't need him, don't want him. Go somewhere else.
- Alex boone just doesn't impress me that much.

I'll use your #20 pick, but with a different trade.

#17 up from #20 with a 4th and 5th, with so many early picks we use the second day picks to move up.
SS Taylor Mays or Will Moore - I think one of these guys falls to within stiking distance of our first pick. A true SS is a glaring hole in our backfield right now.

#25 - DE Tyson Jackson - A luxury pick, need someone to backup Warren and Seymour. May be a bit early for him, but he won't be around at 42

#42 - OC/G Jonathon Luigs - I think RG is going to be a bigger need than OT going forward. This guy can be groomed to replace Neal, and be our backup OC.

#57 - OLB Connor Barwin - This kid is just a football player, has the agility and athletecism to convert from DE to OLB.

#92 - TE Bear Pascoe - Big blocking TE that can also get open and catch the ball, Just doesn't have that much speed.

#97 Comp- Can't make up my mind here, so Ill throw out two to choose from:

CB Deangelo Smith - Mickens' ballhawking teammate

or

WR Quan Cosby - The kid just gets open and catches the ball

let me take a stab at this assuming these are the picks:

1/20 - DE/OLB george selvie
1/25 - TE jermaine gresham
2/42 - SS myron rolle
2/57 - CB darius butler
3/92 - RB rashad jennings
3/97 - C/OG jonathan luigs

later on in the draft, add: DE/OLB connor barwin, DE clinton mcdonald, SS chip vaughn, RB devin moore

the pats have been less than successful at finding WR's via the draft.......a guy like shaun macdonald who will be free of the lions would be perfect to bring in here

I like the idea of moving up and down the draft board on draft day and some of your trades look very interesting.

Unless a pass rushing OLB demon materializes out of thin air somewhere in this draft, I am all for drafting NT Mount Cody in the first and then securing playmakers in the secondary. I hope we get a chance at signing Asomugha. He would be perfect for our defense.

One final note: BB is not going to draft a tall CB unless the tall CB has outstanding change of direction skills. BB wants quick twitch corners, not long striders.

Clint Sintim, Patrick Chung, Kevin Barnes or Mickens.

theres only one boom or bust type player in there imo and that is Domonique Johnson the CB from Jackson State. Maualuga is a lock to be great, Mickens is a lock to be a good corner, Chad Johnson is already proven to be one of the best WRs in the league hes a lock.

I dont see that passrushing OLB beast in the 3-4 in this draft unless Orakpo converts and doesnt have Vernon Ghooolston Syndrome, hes probably better passrusher in a 4-3. And Michael Johnson is intriging who has the potential to be a stud passrusher but i just dont want to trade up for him, and he probably wont last past the 15 pick. Maualuga is a stud that i would have no problem trading up for.

p.s. why the HELL would we trade Cassell AND our 2nd rounder for the 12th pick.

Because Maualuga is a beast and we dont need Cassel with Brady coming back.

We do need secondary help no doubt and a stud passrushing OLB but if there are no studs in our pick range there no reason to pick on need. Bruschi is gunna retire this year hopefully, that leaves us with two ILB in Mayo and Guyton, you need at least 3 ILBs so we are gunna have to draft one or pick one up in free agency anyways. Guyton is a nice player but remember he is an undrafted free agent and he is no Mayo or Maualuga, plus i think he could play a little OLB as well. The only other player i would trade up for is the safety William Moore to replace Rodney. But if i had to pick between Moore and Maualuga id take Maualuga, we can probably resign Sanders who is playing much better than Bruschi.

eh i dont like taking a TE in round one tanked. Rolle is a nice player he would be a great pick. I also like Butler hes my second fav CB in this draft behind Mickens and would be a really good pick at that spot in the draft.

Maeluga would be amazing. i was hoping to get him in last years draft. i doubt he will last until 12 though, hes too good, even though hes a LB. after seeing what Willis and Mayo have done in back to back years, I think teams are going to start taking these "cant miss" LB's earlier. kind of like the trend was for safeties after Ed Reed came out

i think myron rolle is going to Oxford University in England to become a brain surgeon...won the Rhodes Scholarship if Im not mistaken...presidents win that

thats true Maualuga could very easily go top 10, in that case we would have to trade our two 1st rounders to move up to pick 7-ish if we wanted him. Id pull the trigger Maualuga is too good to pass up, and I will be extremely upset if San Diego drafts him.

If Rolle tells everyone he is going to medical school, then I can definately see the Pats drafting him in the 7th round, if he is still there.

Worked before,,,

whoa.....I didn't notice chad johnson in your scheme

never mind.......I thought I was discussing things with a logically thinking person.........

alex boone???? he lack the mobility to even have a chance in the pats OL blocking scheme.....the fit is about as good as cato june as an OLB for the pats

I prefer my scenario as it will improve the pats

First, we CANT trade Cassel because we simply dont have his rights(UFA).The pats are WAY under the cap and are 24th in the league in salary. I would say that the comp picks will be sufficient in adding youth(LOTS of rookies this year). I can see them again trading away for future picks and misguided talent like Mr Ocho. There has to be a balance between age and experience and many of our problems this year are due to the rookies having to play so much with injuries to starters. Just because the announcers say we have OLD guys doesnt make it so.

With Mayo and Guyton, we don't need another young ILB.

What we need is a pass rushing OLB (Selvie,Orakpo,Sintim,Brown) and an upgrade at CB who isn't injury prone like Wheatley. SS is also an area we should add depth to. Sanders is average or below average in every facet of the game.

RB and WR could use depth and youth. A guard and TE on Day 2.

Good thing we have a lot of picks this year. :p

huh?

Boone is not slower than what we have now at tackle in Kaczur and Light, and he is 6-8 315 and moves well for a guy his size, 5.25 40 yard. If you want someone like Joe Thomas who runs a 5.0 40 yard dash at 6-8 320 good luck finding that outside the top 10 picks in round 1, nevermind round 3.
