Now that we are 5-3 with Buffalo and the Jets on the horizon ,this season does make me think of 1998. We were in a scamble that year too, and we had back to back games with Miami and Buffalo. Remember those?

For all my complaints about Drew Bledsoe, those 2 games were truly his finest moment. With a hurt finger he led the Patriot to 2 last second wins.
And the Patriots rode those 2 wins to make the playoffs without him.

A plyoff spot this year with a 9-7 or 10-6 record without Brady is more than i can ever ask for.

these 2 games will set the tone for where this season goes.

Other than his playoff games I think those two games are Drews best games. Only a handful of others can compete. Some real gutsy football. I always use these games with anyone who tries to dog on Drew.

I can see the similarities you are trying to make and I think they are valid with one exception. Cassel seems to be a better QB than Zolak and thus hopefully we have a better playoff chance with Cassel than we did with Zo.

and I think Zo Knows this. :D

no question. although i was at the 49ers game when Zolak hit Jefferson with that bomb and Adam kicked us into the playoffs at the end.

I use that season with people who dog on Pete Carroll. With the injuries the Patriots had that year it was a terrific job to get them into the playoffs. And he had NO help from GM Bobby Grier. Carroll wasnt Parcells and he wasnt Belichick, but he didnt "suck" either.

anyway, thats a whole other thread......

Those were some awesome games. Only thing is with instant replay we would never get away with another sideline catch that was made at least a foot out of bounds:p

I just know in both of those games there was a point where I felt there's no way we could come back, and Drew did it.

Ditto. Those are two of my favorite games of all time. I think people forget that Drew was pretty gutsy and was no stranger to 4th quarter heroics.

that was the game too, when Drew waved a play off from Pete Carroll, completed the pass, and Carroll gave Drew the biggest smile.

I may have to watch my tape of that game again. there was so much pressure because the Patriots were 5-5, a loss ended all hope. Drew showed so much fire and leadership.

Those two games, the 94 game against the Vikings, and the 2001 AFC Championship are what comes to mind first when I think of Drew.

When I think of Pete Carroll, I harken back to the 97 Divisional against Pittsburgh, his Defense kept us in the game and we were one point away from hosting back to back AFC Championship Games, if not for some rookie named Mike Vrabel. There was one thing Pete Carroll had that Belichick did, Carroll never had a losing season as coach of the Pats, but I'm sure if he had stayed as coach in 2000, that probably wouldn't be true.

Pete wasn't a bad coach, but he is right where he should be and who isn't feel jacked about that.

Was one of those games the game where the Bills refused to come out for the PAT play?

That's one of my fledgeling memories of the Pats.

well said; i agree 100% with you

Were these the games that ended with TDs by Coates and Glenn? Was Glenn involved in a pass interference call first? Maybe someone can find a recap?
