Analysis of "pipeline" picks?

BB and Urban Meyer only connected a few years ago after Meyer went to FL.

Another connection that hasn't been mentioned is BB and Lloyd Carr who retired from Michigan just recently. Brady, Crable, Woods all played for Carr. Belichick and Carr would swap notes offseason, and BB spoke to the Wolverines at least once.

Good point...Matt Gutierrez would fall in that category too.

I am sure Meyer, Saban, Groh, Weiss, Hill and the guy at Iowa give a pretty fair description of players in their conferences.

I've always found it a bit odd that more Virginia players have not been brought in by BB. Groh seems to me to be the exception in this pipeline.

Eric Alexander, Blue Gay

Yeah, to me, these two guys are the ones the Pats benefitted the most as a result of the pipeline. Rohan played a high profile position and fared well so it was a given he'd be drafted. That's more the case with Hill.

Anybody ever think that the "pipeline" is a negative??

Say you're the coach of young men that you hope do well in their near futures, wouldn't you describe them in a good light as opposed to tearing them down for an old co-worker that you only hear from once in a while. Weiss would not fit this description, but many others could.

When talking about their own players I would think the pipeline could be misleading.

That connection is probably more reliable for opposing players. And free agents.

Although there's no evidence of this piece of the pipeline affecting the Patriots yet, remember that Virginia HC Al Groh is still good friends with Belichick too.

Vince Redd played at Virginia before he ended up at Liberty. :)

When Redd left there were a lot of rumors swirling about misconduct and/or drug use. but either way, Redd must have done a lot of growing up at Liberty in order for BB to take a chance on him.
I wish we knew the real scoop Al Groh gave BB on Redd.

I get to talk with Kirk Ferentz about once a year, and he always very gracious towards Belichick, telling about how he used to leave the AC's money to get by one at Cleveland.

Ferentz has some good players in the pipe right now, with Mitch King (DL, '10), Shonn Greene (RB, probably '09), Bryan Bulaga (OL, probably '10), and Adrian Clayborn (DL, probably '10).

I'd love for Ferentz to put a bug in BB's ear about Greene. He is spectacular.
