Belichick denies tampering with Moss

“[W]hat’s his name knew he could run. He’s a friend of Belichick’s, [former Raiders executive] Mike Lombardi. Mike sold what’s his name, Belichick, on the idea that he could run. They tampered with him,” Davis said. “I remember [Patriots owner] Bob Kraft saying that he had to look him in the eye and all that. They went down and worked him out. He could run. He’s their team, of course, with the quarterback.”

What the hell? A good start to making serious accusations is to remember really famous names...

the last paragraph said:
It wouldn’t surprise us to learn that Lombardi gave Belichick an unsolicited head’s up about Moss, which then contributed to Belichick’s ultimate pursuit of him. If that happened, it technically wouldn’t be tampering by the Patriots. It would be an act of treason by Lombardi against his employer at the time, but it wouldn’t be tampering by the Patriots.

This actually makes alot of sense here and would explain why BB and Davis view the events differently. If Lombardi did in fact do that than Davis may have just felt that it was tampering and now a year later he has convinced himself BB tampered. All the while BB knows he did nothing of the sort.

Anyway lets just hope this thin goes away because we all know how the media likes to act :spygate:

Haha - someone needs to sign up with that name...

"Coach what's-his-name"

Classic. I'm curious to see Lombardi's response.

Not that Florio has a ton of cred, but he lost any illusion of minimal common sense when he inexplicably bought into the crazy old coot's PC...

"Frankly, we don’t know who to believe on this one. We were generally impressed with the Davis press conference, but it’s possible he was exaggerating a bit."

Luckily for all of us, I think the media already knows Al Davis is a nutcase.

you think ? i bet they will side with davis on this too...it makes a better story you see ?

Media never let knowledge stand in the way of a good story before why would they now.

He was impressed with Al Davis' press conference?

Well, that makes one person. Two if you count Davis.

Well, I guess we know what Charley Casserly will discuss this Sunday at 12:20 PM.

Add Florio to the list of "liars", if he was really impressed with Al Davis' presser yesterday. That was just for that post, for show.

Let no one be surprised when, in a completely different post about Al Davis, maybe even today, he refers to the same presser as "embarrassing". Florio is for publicity only.

actually not..
ProFootballTalk.com - DAVIS ACCUSES KIFFIN OF PROPAGANDA, LYING

One thing is clear to us: The 79-year-old Davis still seems to be as sharp mentally as he ever has been, and we tend to believe every word he’s saying.

Frankly, we were riveted by the press conference. Davis rarely speaks publicly, but when he does he brings the heat. And we get the sense that he treats his people well, if they are willing to treats others well, too. Particularly compelling to us were comments from Davis regarding his desire that long-term players not simply be discarded, and that Kiffin take care of ex-Raiders.

Davis has a clear passion for his team, and we have a newfound affection for Davis, and for the Raiders. Though there are problems with the franchise that need to be addressed, Davis deserves our deference and respect, and we’re more than happy to give it to him.

My initial reaction is why wait for something like 17 months to say something, why didn't he say something last year when it was fun for everyone to pile on?? This is idiotic, pure and simple..

Al is a old man. Stop btching Al. You need to be like Kraft if you want your team to be successful.

I guess it pays to be the team's mouthpiece since Reiss seems to be the only one who got the post-press conference comments from Belichick.

Here's what ESPN was playing up on their site:

Belichick, Moss decline comment on Davis' tampering allegation
Associated Press

Updated: October 1, 2008, 1:02 PM ET

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick has declined comment on a tampering accusation leveled against his team by Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis.

Belichick was asked Wednesday about Davis' statement and said that the Patriots are concentrating on Sunday's game against the 49ers in San Francisco. New England wide receiver Randy Moss also declined comment Wednesday.

Davis said Tuesday that the Patriots tampered with Moss before they obtained him from Oakland in a trade during last year's NFL draft. Davis made the statement after a news conference in which he announced the firing of his coach, Lane Kiffin.

Absolutely. The Raiders traded Moss. They made the deal. Is Al saying that somehow the Patriots made the Raiders deal Moss? Sheer lunacy.

Then Florio is just a fool. Lombardi has already thrown his money in, on the opposite side, although he did not deign to mention the ludicrous accusation.

OMG, please tell me this story does not become a big deal, how absurd...Yeah, Belichick must've flown out that Saturday and worked out Moss. It's not like the organization would've been busy that day, or in the weeks preceding it for that matter. I mean, why else does one of the greatest receivers in history get traded on day 2 of the NFL draft, I mean, obviously tons of thought went into it on both sides ahead of time.

Al is old and crumpy man. He needs to call Kraft to learn how to make his team successful.

Stop btching Al. You didn't bring it up last year. Why now? it's time to move on.
