The past few weeks it seems like any post that is not 100% about the New England Patriots 2008 Season is pedantically moved off to some other section of this site that 99% of the posters will never visit.
I get you don't want things getting out of control with non-Pats posts -- and I get moving something about the Sox or Celtics or whatever -- but most posts about the NFL are still somewhat germane to the Patriots and their season.
I don't recall the forum every being like this, expect for leading up to the draft, which again I find to be ridiculously pedantic.
I'm only bringing this up, as to me moving all these posts into other forums that 99% of the posters will never visit devalues the board.
A lot of folks come on here to get quick NFL news, and taking that away from the site takes away from it's value and will cause people -- like me -- to visit less often.
Just thought I'd bring this up to see how other posters felt about all these posts being moved and if you liked it, didn't like it, etc.
Again, I never thought it was out of control with "OT" posts, and I've never seen a messageboard as punctiliously moderated for post content as this one ... just seems a bit overkill ...

Not speaking for anyone but myself, but I think it's a good idea to move them. At least then, you know EXACTLY where to look for non-Patriots NFL developments.

I think they need to leave 'breaking news' up for a bit before moving it but, other than that, I've got no problem with it.

Even though it's moved it still shows up on forum so technically this is already the case

Because with dozens of threads coming through here I did it to organize them. I've been leaving them here for an hour or so, and then moving it to the NFL forum so that people who want to continue posting to it know where to find it.
Some of the other threads are being moved to get a handle on the doom and gloom along with the pointless player bashing. The quality of discussion over the last couple of weeks has been lacking, so I made some changes to try to improve things.
But to answer your question, that's the reason. The NFL threads stay here for an hour or two and then get moved into that forum so they ca easily be found later for those who want to continue discussing them.

Quick NFL News and discussion is EASIER to get now, because all such threads are in one place. And that place is a Sub-Forum listed at the top of the forum listing page, not someplace else that is tough to find.
That's the key: the reason for the new policy is the new easily-accessible and visible forum, unlike where other OT threads get moved to.

Fair enough, Ian. I agree 100% with posts that are degrading the forum quality, doom & gloom, etc., but I still feel moving quality NFL discussions to another forum is a mistake.
Right now there are 25 viewers in that forum and 360+ in the main forum.
I'm only pointing out this out because as a marketing director these sort of business decisions (which is really what this really boils down to) are of interest to me. I don't need to tell you that the more you can get page views like me coming to your site the better it is for you. And moving these posts causes me to view this site less and go to other sites for NFL discussion and news.
Obviously it's up to you to evaluate the cost/benefit of the impact of having other NFL posts in the main forum, but I see very limited downside to having breaking news discussed in the main forum.
Anyway, was just curious why it was happening, thanks for responding.

Not to worry. I understand what you're saying. However there's actually a little more to it.
Those threads don't go away, the redirects do stay on the main page for about 3-hours, so they're still there (the thread is moved, it's not removed from the main forum) so people who want to respond can still find it just as easily. The other reason is that it allows the threads to last longer as that forum doesn't fill up with new posts as frequently as the main forum. They tend to die too quickly in the main forum as they move down below 15-20 posts, so that gives them the opportunity to be read and responded to more. Technically since doing it most threads have received more responses than they did previously, so it seems to be working well. It's also nice being able to go in there and find a thread I was reading earlier more quickly (especially the high quality ones), so it's definitely a little more organized now and makes both forums easier to sift through.
