For a Patriots team that took a giant step forward in 2025, Drake Maye still believes that his team has yet to play its best football.

Looking closer at the numbers, fans should be feeling pretty good about the fact that when they finally do, they’re going to be an even more dangerous football team.

New England finished the regular season scoring 490 points in 2025, a massive improvement from the last two years when the team finished 4-13. Last season, they scored just 289, and they finished with only 236 in 2023.

However, what’s pretty amazing is the fact that this season’s point total is even better than people might have thought.

Looking back at the Patriots’ scoring history, 490 points is the most since 2012 (557 points), and ranks as the 5th highest total in a single season going back to 2000.

TOTAL REGULAR SEASON SCORING:

2007 – 589 points
2012 – 557 points
2010 – 518 points
2011 – 513 points
2025 – 490 points

Their +170-point differential was the 8th-highest by the team over the same span, just behind +171 in 2011 and +177 in 2004.

One of the most impressive stats, however, was their 296 first-half points this season, which led the league in 2025 and is also the second-highest total since 2000, just behind the record-setting 2007 offense (333).

FIRST HALF SCORING (Regular Season)
2007 – 333
2025 – 296
2012 – 290
2009 – 282
2017 – 271

They’ve also scored 122 first-quarter points this season, which came in 3rd behind the 2007 (134) and 2016 (130) teams.  It was also best in the NFL this year ahead of the Rams (113), Colts (109), and Seahawks (106).

FIRST QTR SCORING (Regular Season)
2007 – 134
2016 – 130
2025 – 122
2019 – 118
2012 – 113
2010 – 103

Not bad for a group that seemingly left a lot of points on the field this season.

One caveat is the fact that the league went to 17 games in 2021, but it’s nevertheless a strong start under new head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.  This is an offense that, with that 490 point total, still finished 2025 second overall in the NFL in scoring behind the Rams (518), and oddly enough, just ahead of the Seahawks (483).

Maye said on Sunday, following their AFC Championship win, that he’s hoping things click when they battle the Seahawks in two weeks, and he’s looking forward to getting back out there.

“I think we still haven’t played our best football yet in this playoffs, and I’m looking forward to seeing that and hopefully having that click in the Super Bowl,” said Maye.  “That’d be pretty cool.”
