Here’s what Patriots running back Kyle Williams had to say during his press conference on July 26, 2025:

On how the first four days of his training camp have been going:

“It’s been good. Every day, progressively getting better, so just continuing to stack in day by day. ”

On the fact that in Kendrick Bourne’s workout video, there was a moment where he gave some tips on an out comeback route, and how it’s been as a first-year player trying to adapt to Josh McDaniels’ offense:

“It’s been good. I feel like this is a new offense for all of us. Just being able to get tips and tricks from each player’s vantage, especially, to learn how to run different routes versus different looks, I feel like it’s really good for me and be able to establish and expand my route tree.”

On how different the post-snap process is relative to what he’s done in the past:

“I feel like everything’s growing. I feel like things are moving a little bit faster, but I’m gradually getting it, and it’s helping me slow down my process of the game.”

On how it’s been working with Stefon Diggs:

“It’s been a blessing.  I mean, that’s always been my favorite receiver. So just being right next to him is just a God gift.”

On how far back he goes in his childhood with Diggs being his favorite player:

“Let’s see. When he was coming out of Maryland, so when he was wearing that one, I remember it was a highlight video. It was like an Emmitt Smith or something like that. I just kept watching it every day. And now look at us today.”

On why he was his favorite:

“I mean, he was just different. He was crafty. I mean, it was like something about him that just stuck out to me, and then I just gravitated towards it.”

On if he told him that:

“No, not yet. Once he retires, then I got it.”

On the fact he was getting some reps with the first team and what that opportunity means to him:

“I mean, any reps, for me, honestly, mean the world to me. I mean, I’m a rookie. I’m still learning. So just being able to get that chemistry down with either quarterback, it’s a blessed thing.”

On the play he made earlier this week against Gonzalez where he hauled in a back shoulder throw, and how comfortable he feels and how much of a week it will be when the pads come on (and it being a long question):

“No, you’re good. I mean, it just stems from the offseason, from OTAs, offseason to now, just getting that constant work and understanding each other, him being able to trust me when those type of routes are being called. Then when it comes to pads, we just try to carry everything over. We don’t try to think ‘it’s pads, everything just ramps up.’ We try to have that same energy from day one all the way to the end of training camp throughout the season.”

On if trust is the number one thing that needs to be established as a player coming in at that position where they have to rely on knowing where to be:

“Oh, for sure. I mean, without trust, I mean, what is there? It’s like a relationship with your girl. You can’t have a relationship with no trust. Trust is big.”

On how much conversation there is between plays, (eg: ‘I need you to do this,’ or ‘I like that…) and if there’s a lot of that:

“It’s numerous of them. We go through meetings, we have those talks, and whatever sticks out to him and he feels like he needs to comment on or whatever I feel like I should comment on, then we just have those conversations.”

On what his process has been so far for learning Josh McDaniels’ offense:

“I would just say continuous reps every day, every night, looking through my playbook whenever I get free time, and just trying to memorize things on the fly.”

On when the offense gets a play like the one Drake Maye made to Pop for a long gain, and what that does for the offense:

“We like to call that fast break football. So we feel like those plays we shouldn’t take off at any time. Those are plays. There’s a time for us to extend the field, extend drives, and everything. So when we get that, we look at it in our favor to go make some big plays down the field. ”
