TRANSCRIPT: Jared Wilson's Press Conference 7/26

Here’s what Jared Wilson had to say during his press conference on 7/26/2025:

On how it feels to get back out there and get something close to football:

“It feels good, man. Everybody knows I was out for a little minute, but I’m back now. I’m just excited to be back with the guys, be back with the vets, and learning every day and going out there making mistakes, trying to make new mistakes and not the old ones, and just having fun.”

On the fact it seems like he’s been jumping back and forth between guard and center and what that process has been like for him:

“It’s been good. Whatever they ask me to do. I’m a football player. But if they go out there and tell me to play receiver for two snaps, I’ll do that. So it’s been good just trying to hone in on the playbook, study more left guard and center. Center, you’re more vocal. Then at left guard, it makes you open your eyes a little bit more, and you can do a little bit more because you are a center, and you know the calls, and you know what could happen. So it’s been good.”

On the fact young offensive linemen have been working with Morgan Moses and what impact he’s had on him so far:

“Big Mo, man, he’s a vet. I think this is year 12 or 13 for him, one of them. Man, he just knows a lot about the game. I ask him a lot. I’m like, Man, even though I ask him a day before I ask him again, I’m like, ‘How are you here? 12 years.’ I was like, ‘How long are you playing on to keep going?’ He’s like, ‘I want to do three more.’ I’m like, ‘Wow.’ I asked him what he does in recovery when he goes home and stuff like that. He sleeps a lot. He has a red light sauna, which I don’t have enough money for that right now, but hopefully God willing, I can get up to that moment. But he’s a great teacher. He’s just a great guy overall. Great veteran.”

On the fact he didn’t practice in the spring and if he had any idea he’d be thrown into the mix:

What I was thinking, I was just ready to get back to ball. Whatever they asked me to do, I’d go out there and do it. I didn’t really care. I just wanted to go out there, be with the guys, and learn, and make mistakes, and have fun.”

On what he was able to do in the spring instead of during the break:

“I was just honing on the playbook in the meeting rooms, getting a lot of mental reps, making mental mistakes, just like physical mistakes, just staying with the coaches.”

On the fact the SEC is obviously highly competitive and what it’s been like pushing up against Christian Barmore or Milton Williams or any of the guys up front:

“Real twitchy and real strong. Those guys are real strong. They’re great guys, great defensive linemen. They also have chemistry, so they work really well together. They do good on twists and stunts and everything. They’re just good guys to go against, and it’s a great way to get better for me. ”

On the fact he’s working with veterans like Cole Strange and Garrett Bradbury, and how that’s going:

“It’s going great. We ask each other questions all the time. Anytime I got a question, I just go to Garrett. Garrett and Cole are very open. There’s no tension between us or anything like that. We’re just we’re teammates at the end of the day, and we want to win.”

On the fact he played a lot of guard last year and what that adjustment has been like going back to guard:

“I’m a football player. Offensive line, you got to be able to… If you play one of the interior. You got to be able to play all three of the interior. I played a little bit in college, so coming in the NFL, I knew I had to get ready for that. I was good in pre-draft as well. I trained a lot with Duke at Guard, so it was good.”

On if he has a comfort level at one or the other, based on his previous experience:

“You answered it. Whatever they tell me to do, I don’t mind. I don’t mind. Yeah, for sure. But I don’t mind.”

On if it stresses him out, just the mental part from one to the other, ‘Hey, you’re right, left, you’re in the center:’

“Pressure is a privilege, baby. Pressure is a privilege. So any type of pressure that I get put under, it’s a privilege to have it. Just own it.”

On if there’s been anything that’s been a surprise so far:

“I don’t know if there’s a right answer for this or not. I don’t know.”

It’s not a trick question:

“I mean, definitely the playbook. Definitely the playbook. Out of anything, out of anything, it’s the playbook. A lot of terminology, a lot of plays. Josh McDaniel is one of the… I think, he’s one of the best OCs out there. Just his versatility and what he does. It’s a lot to learn, but it’s fun once we execute it as an offense.”

On if he’s been on the wrong end of any Mike Vrabel questions:

“I mean, he asks questions in the team meeting to everybody. I don’t know if that’s really like a… I guess that’s a pop quiz. I mean, yeah.”

On what his take is on how tries to keep his guys on their toes:

“He’s a player’s coach. He played in the NFL 14 years, so he just knows. I think he has a great relationship with the players, and all the players love him. When he asks a question, just give your best answer.”

On where he feels, as a center, his chemistry is at with Drake Maye:

“Drake May? Oh, man, Drake. I love Drake. We actually were committed together to North Carolina for a while, back in my sophomore or junior, during the COVID time, whatever. But it’s just gotten better every day. Anytime we make some mistakes, I always go up to him and ask him. He said, ‘I’m still making mistakes, and we’re going to make it together, and we’re going to improve together.’ So it’s really good. All right, guys.”
