Bill Belichick Remains Supportive Of Kendrick Bourne Despite Quiet Start

The perplexing and quiet start to wide receiver Kendrick Bourne’s 2022 campaign continued into Week 5 when he recorded just a single reception on a lone target against the Detroit Lions.
Overall, Bourne has just 10 receptions for 139 yards and zero touchdowns on 13 targets through the first five games and appeared to get into an argument with Bill Belichick in the second quarter.
Despite his seemingly low usage thus far and potential disagreements, Belichick remained supportive of the wideout who had a career year just one season ago during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show.
“I love KB,” Belichick said. “He’s very passionate about the game, his performance, the team—works hard and has helped us and will help us. It’s great to have him on the field because he’s an explosive player. He’s one of our key guys in the passing game. We’re always working to try to improve, do things better, and nobody works harder at it than KB. He always practices hard, works hard in practice. And I don’t think that’ll change. That’s just who he is. He loves football, and he competes well.”
After Sunday’s game, Bourne shared a curious Instagram post referencing his limited play by saying “when you do nothing in the group project and get an A”.
Now whether or not the posting was Bourne voicing his displeasure or making light of the situation remains unknown, but he did end up setting a season-high in snaps played on Sunday with 34, second on the team behind Jakobi Meyers.
A rookie quarterback under center likely hasn’t helped Bourne get back involved, but with Mac Jones’ recovery process moving along positively, perhaps so will Bourne’s season in the coming weeks.
