Former Patriots quarterback was able to experience the joy of leading his team to an AFC Championship in 1996/97 and being part of a Super Bowl win in New England during the 2001 season, but he got to enjoy what was probably an even better moment on Saturday night out in Oregon.

The former quarterback spent the 2015 High School season as the offensive coordinator for the team both his sons, Stu and John Bledsoe, play for, the Summit Storm.  But on Saturday night, the school got to enjoy the excitement of winning the program’s first-ever OSAA Class 5A state football title.

Lead by his son, quarterback John Bledsoe, who passed for 265 yards and two touchdowns as well as ran for two others, the Storm came back from a late 28-24 deficit and put on an impressive display as they went on to win 45-28.

John’s a junior and according to maxpreps.com, he finished the year completing 139-of-217 for 2084 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just two interceptions.

According to Joshua Cordell of CentralOregonAthlete.com, he believes that John, who dons his father’s #11, should also be up for the state’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, Bledsoe’s other son, Stu, a senior linebacker, said at halftime there was some concern and when Ashland took the lead, that got them going.

“In the locker room at halftime, I kind of felt a little less energy,” said Stu Bledsoe via OregonLive.com.  “Then they came out and took the lead, and that really pushed us.”

That they did, running off 21 points.  But to cap things off in what was a fitting end, Stu finished his high school career with a notable play.  The senior made the game-sealing interception to put the game away as the team the team’s first state championship.

On the other side, the drive of the night was the one that impressed their dad the most.  Summit drove from their own one yard line and went 99 yards on 15 plays to go up by 10 at 38-28 with 5:16 left in the game.

“As coach Bledsoe would say,” head coach Joe Padilla told the newspaper, referring to Bledsoe, “that’s a championship drive. That’s what champions do. They are able to close things out.”

And now they’re state champions.
