Before the season I said the key to getting #4 was winning games against quality conference opponents (outside the division, of course). In 2005-2006, the Pats went 1-6 in such games - only beating Pittsburgh by 3 in 2005. This is one reason why the Pats failed in the playoffs the last 2 years, simply couldn't get past the best in the AFC.
